First off the food. The burgers were spectacular, perfect combination of beef, bacon, cheese, salad and sauce. The chef’s cooked the patty very well and the bacon was very juicy with it having just the right amount of salad, 9/10. The steak was well done and it was very chewy and it was cooked perfectly, 8/10. The chips are nice and crisp but need a bit more salt, 7.5/10. The fish was quite crisp and cooked well but it is very filling for some people, 7/10. The salad that came with the fish was also quite generous. The Chicken Parmigiana is a 7/10 and everything was melted on the perfect crisp chicken. Now for the drinks. The Hot Chocolate was frothy and it had a perfect chocolate flavour for a cheap price with good amounts of milk. Their are varying amounts of wine and on Mother’s Day they give you a free little plant. The service is a 8/10 as they help take photos and they are give good tips and are great at serving the food.

Big fat disappointment!!! We were hoping to get a table for 2 at around 3pm. But all of the tables were reserved so I asked the staff where we could seat but the staff responds were “just seat anywhere that hasn’t had the reserved signs” but all of the tables are reserved so we told another staff where we could possibly seat but they just gave me the same answers again. No one were trying to give us a table whatsoever. So we needed up leaving cause no one were trying to serve us, maybe the air-con are too nice inside no one were willing to walk out to take out the reserved sign ... I know you are trying to bring in the self-service system by ordering via app but some decent table services are also needed. . If all of your tables are not open for customers, JUST CLOSED THE GOD DAME RESTAURANT!!!!!!

I went with my family on Sunday 27th December. The wait staff were attentive and took our orders very quickly. I shared the Caesar Salad with chicken and a pizza with my mother. All the food came out quickly which was great. We received our salad and chicken in a very small side dish (6 dollars extra for chicken I might add) the chicken was raw and pink and hardly worth the extra $6.00. The salad was ok but no poached egg. $24 for cos lettuce, bacon, croutons and cheese seems a little steep to me. We told the waiter about the chicken he was apologetic and took it back to be cooked. Once the mains had been cleared we ordered coffees and dessert. My mum ordered the sticky date which was cold, dry and had a slither of the hot delicious sauce everyone loves she took 1 bite and decided to wasn’t worth eating. We told the wait staff about the sticky date and once again he was apologetic. I went to female restroom and was shocked with the cleanliness. There was no bin for the paper towels so everyone was using them, then putting them in the sink. I checked under the sink to see if there was a bin but no. By that stage I was ready to leave. We went and paid and were told there was no split billing , fair enough. I mentioned the state of the restroom to the staff member taking our payment. She said there should of been a bin in there I assured her there was not. She thanked me for letting her know. The main shock was seeing our bill! The issues with our food and not 1 item was amended with a 3.5% surcharge on top. We go here every year for our family catch up over Christmas and this will certainly be the last. It was a very disappointing experience. Even after emailing the below response. I have yet to hear anything back.

Nice scenery and good foods. Maybe because it’s close to river, there will be some bugs to annoy you, well me anyway. Overall, it was an enjoyable evening.

Decent bar in Claisebrook Cove with views of the Swan River. Can get busy before/after sports at Optus stadium, but adds to atmosphere. Restaurant seating inside and outside tables available outside. Food options seemed good/standard. No gluten free beers available.

Loved this place. The chicken Caesar salad was amazing, hubbies 🍕 was delicious. This place was such a great find. The outlook was beautiful, it felt like you're were in Europe.

If good food, good service and good atmosphere is what you want, then I would not recommend. From start to finish it was below average. Prices were really high. Venue is old and tired. We went there with a hope of having a lovely evening with a beautiful view, but to be honest, the view is not worth it.

Last night I was out with my partner and saw a table near us getting abused by some bogans for laughing too loud. To my surprise when the manager came, he let the bogans stay and asked the two couples to leave. . Pretty surprising, maybe management where scared of them 🤔

WARNING: CASH NOT ACCEPTED - This place is using COVID19 as an excuse not to accept Australia's legal national currency. The Royal has been my local for over 3.5yrs and I bring friends and family here every time they come to visit me. After the shameful and embarrassing treatment I received because I only had cash on me, I won't be coming back. There were no signs indicating 'card only' and no advice from the staff at the point of ordering. So unprofessional.

Very disappointing this time. Went there for lunch today. Entered via street level to find stairway shutter down & it appeared closed. No signs inside or out. Mrs telephoned, yes open but only by waterfront entrance. Suggested a sign? - care factor nil. Went down & not surprisingly near empty. We decided to sit just outside the booking desk door, told 'no table service' there but still same menu & prices. Had a browse before going inside to find out what specials / recommendations were. Told none, menu only. Left and had a nice meal and wine served to us where our presence was welcomed.

I have visited this very well located establishment for years and have never been so disappointed. Mostly disappointed after it took a some time on a quiet lunch run to wave someone down to take back food that was really not enjoyable. The food was sent back however was never followed up on. Rather than make the fuss we will simply not be returning or recommending. Even after contacting the below details as requested via email and phone there was still no follow up, clearly there is something not running right there

The food was so disappointing and overpriced that i won't be coming back to dine anytime soon. I had the fish pie which was tasteless and poorly put together. There was only fish with pasty on top. No sauce and no taste. My son had the crab spaghetti where there was hardly any crab and for some unknown reason the chef decided to put, what it looked like, raisins in the dish. On a positive note, the service was good but that was the only positive that had come from the dining experience.

Amazing, awesome, Fantastic!!!!!!! So this is for our office Christmas party at The Royal, yesterday ie Friday, 4th Dec. The place was obviously busy (lots of Christmas/ year end parties ). Our table was being served by Sabrina, a very young & gorgeous lady who absolutely loves what she does, she's confident, professional and OMG she is just fabulous!!!!!!! She was friendly, warm and courteous. She helped us with the menu (food/drinks) . Since we were a large group, we obviously had different food / drink preferences. She served us with this beaming smile each time, no matter how many times we ordered or how many times we needed assistance. She is a superstar! She made the evening very enjoyable and relaxing for us. Thank you so much 💖 Cindy, the manager is also a extremely professional, warm and ensure everything is just perfect for the guests. Overall what a "Winning team" !!!!! More power to you, keep up the great service and great work. Thank you. Garima

Nice location besides Claisebrook Cove. Decent amount of outdoor seating. Colonial Brewing Co. beers on tap are great, as well as a nice selection of independent guest beers and the usual regulars. Both times I have eaten here recently the food has been okay but a bit pedestrian.

Beautiful ambience and couldn't fault the location. Ordering is either done through the app or at the bar so I'm not sure what the wait staff really did except bring or clear plates. We were there for 3 hours after the busy footy rush but you could feel the tiredness of the staff. The one thing I would've loved would be music outside, even if it was a live string quartet, it really would have made the night more memorable. I absolutely loved the creme brulee dessert though.

I so enjoy The Royal on The Waterfront. It's located on the Swan River in East Perth among many other restaurants, cafe's and business's. It's a great ambience. The food is excellent and the menu healthy. I had Australian garlic prawns and a simple salad. A really perfect lunch for me. There were many menu choices I would also have enjoyed. Next time! Thank you so much to all the staff who were so welcoming and friendly, and to everyone who played a part there in a really enjoyable lunch experience.

Had a terrible experience with an older lady with a very blunt to the point of rude manner towards not only my husband and I, but numerous customers waiting in line. Only to be redeemed by a young lady, Ellie. She was absolutely fantastic and turned our sour experience of the Royal into a fantastic one. She knew everything about the wines and cocktails (my husband has dietary restrictions) and was so extremely kind. Simply an amazing interaction and we will be returning purely for her excellent customer service. Thank you Ellie, you made our week!

Fabulous service, unfortunately the food was terrible. Our steak sandwiches were not the scotch fillet the menu stated but hammered out minute steak which had the unpleasant strong taste of a dirty grill. I contacted them privately via messenger to advise of our disappointment but after a week they’ve not bothered to respond. $28 for an unpleasant steak sandwich, don’t waste your time, plenty of other establishments with far better food and view.

Got refused entry at the door by a very rude bloke for not being able to provide proof of vaccinaton. As soon as we couldn’t provide proof we were treated like dogs. He didn’t even ask if we had an exemption which I do. I understand that you don’t make the rules but no reason to treat me the way that you did. Was not told anything about it when I made my reservation.

Visited this place to celebrate my birthday earlier this year. We decided to go to East Perth for a walk but ended up having lunch here and our experience was surprisingly great! Oh, I so enjoyed my visit to this superb little pub. It was a wild and wet day in Perth, and the sensible person would have stayed in, heating on, and watched the AFL on the TV. I jumped in a rideshare for a quick pint and lunch at The Royal, having read a delightful review calling it a 'Soulless, dystopian pub'. I believe that tells us so much more about the reviewer than the venue. The bar staff were all incredibly friendly. When I got there, the place was packed, so they were engaging but professional and efficient. Once the game started at Perth Stadium, it had cleared right out and I had some very fun, entertaining chats with the hospos as they had more time on their hands. So in the end, I never got to the game. I stayed where, as one bartender observed: "It's warm, it's dry, and the beers are full strength." The food is top notch too. Great place which I'll definitely return to.

The ambience of the place was lovely. Service and drinks great. Unfortunately the food left a lot to be desired. Seafood linguine at $36 was tasteless. Even dipping a chip in the sauce was bland. The pizza was dry and not pleasant. 5 diners. None were happy with the food. Two different waiters enquired how we were enjoying it. The first didn’t know what to do or say when we said the linguine was horrible. He said thanks and left. The second said he would tell the chef. Very disappointing.

My family took me here for brunch, for my birthday. I highly recommend this venue. They made me feel very special. There were balloons on the table, I was given a complimentary glass of bubbles and also a card with discount on my next visit. The service was outstanding and the food delicious with a great view of the water. I will definitely be going back. Thanks team. Great effort!

Great place plus all the new staff really work this place well but one of the managers seem to think it’s ok to shut up on a Friday at 9:30-9:45 on a Friday night while maybe 20-30 people are still inside. Not the best idea to do when people go out on a Friday night. Lots of people who live near go out around that time. Power trip I think

We came here again specifically to eat their "Spaghetti" dish. It was always worth the drive but this time I was devastated. The spaghetti was undercooked, gluggy and stuck together. I'm not fussy but this was inedible. Kudos to the waiter who noticed I was unhappy and next minute we had the restaurant manager come sit down with us for a chat, she informed us they had a new chef and offered to refund the meal or our drinks. These guys have amazing customer service and although the dish was disappointing this time round, it's well worth checking out The Royal for some of the other items on their menu, especially the Kilpatrick oysters with bacon jam. They are deluxe!

Had a great experience the first time I went. This time though it wasn't as good. Steak sandwich I ordered was good and came out quick, my cousins fish and chips on the other hand didn't come out until 5 minutes after I had finished my meal, and gave her an upset stomach. Also service seems to have changed away from table service which isn't ideal but most likely due to coronavorus.

Great spot on the waterfront for a date or drinks with the boys. Lots of RGB/LED colourful lighting in the area classes up an already classy neighborhood. Great food; steaks, burgers, fish and chips and Jerry Fraser (the king of oysters) on a Tuesday night. Thursday night is quiz night. Oh and Colonial on tap!

It's a great iconic place for a gathering on weekends. People use the name The Royal to explain certain addresses, that's how famous this restaurant is. It has a great outside sitting area with a views of the waterfront and bridge. Wide variety of food and drinks. Met Sunny the assistant manager and she was awesome and extremely busy at the same time... food is great keep up the good work guys.

Recommended by an associate as a pub close to the football. The Royal turned out to be an elderly establishment in need of a wash or a vacuum as with the carpets. There's were decent menu with minimal "twist" meal options.. eitherway the pork and veg was nice enough and the standard pizzas were ok.

It's been a while since I have been and I am quite shocked how this place has changed, not for the good. Booked a table, the gentleman looked very confused when I said we had a table booked, took a minute or 2 to work out what to do. No drinks list given, had to ask what was available which the gentleman wasn't 100% sure so stood there trying to name everything, prices have gone up a riduclous amount and portion sizes have reduced. No atmosphere anymore. Really disappointed with this visit, hopefully they can improve.

Not up to their usual standard. Garlic bread was lacking substance, more like garlic flatbread with no salt. Fish pie was lacking, stodgy and pastry was soggy. Calamari was delicious and so was the pumpkin feta pizza.

Giving only 3 stars as it was poor value for money. 2 burgers, one beer and one aperol spritz was around $80! View is good, that's really what brings people back. There is a nice outdoor seating area and good service. But really, $80 for 2 burgers and 2 drinks seems way too overpriced.

Im not here to bag The Royal, as I live 30 meters from the pub. Do I use the Royal? Not very often I go to The Grovenor 2 k's away!! Why? Because they are owned by Colonial Brewery they are limited to Australian beers. If you are British and there are a lot of us, you have nothing. Even if you had Kilkenny in cans. Also at $14 a pint you are expensive. Food! Most people love Steak, chips and salad with sauce. Create a "house special" of a rump style steak for under $30, and you will have locals using you. Just a few suggestions. East perth resident.

What a nightmare. How are you so unprepared with the Optus stadium just up the road. Drinks took forever to come out, so did food. Obviously there was a huge influx of cricket fans as the game just finished up the road, but if you're showing the game on the TV then you should know what you're in for. Staff were running around like crazy, so props to them, but poor form

we thought we would try this as we haven't been to the royal on the waterfront in ages, and first thing there was no oysters available no jacks and coke for him then we received our meals mine was barramundi with bacon the menu did not state clearly it was bacon which I do not eat (only halal ) it then come with Brussel sprouts and peas i ended up eating my meal with only the fish asked for a fruity mascato got the most sour thing on the menu , my partners come out was meant to be a $50 dollar ribeye steak come out looking like a 12 year olds meal cut up with unappealing looking mushrooms and cold chips and fat on the meat very dissatisfied and feeling like we should have gone to somewhere more capable . Wrecked the special occasions we had so pretty upsetting

Disappointed to be writing this. Location and food was was good. Staff where rude and lacked customer service. I had to go back the next following day as I had left my glasses on the table at dinner. When I asked if my glasses where found I rudely told we're to busy to look. I said I'm catching a flight back to Melbourne shortly, so I'll buy some lunch and if someone can look before I leave I'd appreciate it. Had my lunch, and hour went past, I seen the waiter who severed me the night before and he said he found my glasses and placed then in lost property. He went to again ask the Manager and was Told NO she's to busy and she'll call me in due course. I left with a bitter taste in mouth after being a customer and being treated like this by a manager. Very poor in customer service.

The food was average, the attitude of the staff was abysmal, the prices expensive, the elevator smelled of vomit, the toilets were rank. I really can't see what the hype is about this place. It was such a let down.

I would like to start off by saying I have never left a negative review, I prefer to sort the problem out with the establishment at the time. This event was no different. We were enjoying ourselves at The Royal on the Waterfront before going to a show at Crown. We had excellent service from a man with an accent (we didnt catch his name) and had our entre promptly. We then ordered dinner and realised we were starting to push it for time. Dinner arrived and my $49 medium-well Rib Eye steak had been completely cut into long pieces and was definitely over cooked (I actually prefer well done, so this is saying something). The waistress that delivered the meal looked uncomfortable as she served the steak and said "medium-well" (as it had been cut into pieces, you could see the problem easily). In another situation I would have simply asked for another but time did not allow for this. I started to cover the steak in sauce to try and make the best of the situation, but then decided to take a photo to show for feedback when we we went to pay. When we went to pay I asked why the steak was cut into pieces and the waitress said it was for "decorative purposes". I stated we were not after a free meal and gave her our feedback. She then went and got her manager Sonny. I had to repeat the feedback again and was met with a hostile response from Sonny, I showed the photo- which was pointless given that I had already covered the steak in sauce and was told by Sonny "that's what medium-well is". I then said it was not even slightly pink and that it was dry. Again, met with rude hostility, Sonny said she would refund the meal. We stated that this was not our reason for providing feedback and refused the free meal as our time constraints did not allow us to fix the issue at the time. I then proceeded to tell her that cutting the steak into pieces also meant that the steak goes cold. She cut me off and stated she was right next to the kitchen and that it was there for less than a minute before coming to our table. Had she lidtened, she would have realised I was referring to once the meal arrives. Mine was definitely hot when it arrived but unless you eat like a fast machine, by the time you get to the other "slithers" of steak, they are cold. The way this entire situation was handled was rude and dissapointing. We tried to give polite feedback without seeking any compensation and were met with a rude, hostile Sonny.

Cannot recommend this place enough! Great food, great view and great service. It was surprisingly busy for a wednesday this week but one of the managers, Sunny, was able to find us a table outside that had just freed up. The food came out a little slow but like I said it was pretty busy, and Sunny came over to make sure we knew that it might be a little while. Wonderful customer service. The only thing I could fault them for is that the wait at the bar was quite long, they were definitely understaffed which was a little odd considering it's the silly season

Nothing like rolling in on a boat one sunny afternoon and having a delicious meal on the waterfront :D can't fault this!

Excellent and accomodating establishment, however I had to plow ten fields to afford a pint. Suggest adding a weekly special pint for $8

The Royal is about as highbrow as a Pub can get before it stops having any claim to the name. The food and beer here is truly excellent, and the general atmosphere is great. Cons would be that service can get a bit clingy if you pick a less busy time (also the place is occasionally entirely full so booking is a good idea), and the seating is a bit uncomfortable both indoors and outdoors. Also, the kitchen often closes very early.

I used to come quite regularly to The Royal, the location is second to none, the venue itself is a perfect balance of bar, restaurant and outdoor area, and the staff have always been professional, prompt and friendly. I used to come to The Royal for a nibble and drink before football games and other events at the stadium, but I don’t bother anymore as there has been a clear change in management. Today’s effort was the worst I’ve experienced!! They roped off the bar and force everyone to form a single line to order anything, unless you booked a table to ores through their app, but that took just as long to get any service through. The crowd was busy at first but most gave up and left, it was that ridiculous that people went to the stadium early!! Lift your game guys!!

Went for Dinner and drinks with a friend. We each got a medium rare steak with chips and salads, and a few pints. 1 steak was well done and chewy, while the other was medium rare and chewy. There were only a small handful of chips on each plate too. The biggest pain was checking my bank statement and realised the Peroni Pints I was drinking were $15 each. That's ridiculous. Save your money and go elsewhere. The view doesn't make up for the overpriced drinks and substandard food. I'll give props, the manager was friendly, but that's expected in the hospitality industry.

I ordered salad and added $6 for chicken, the chicken were off , tasted really bad. Did bring it up to the staff but they didn’t intend to do anything to resolve it. Very disappointed with the quality, I paid $27 for a plate of chicken salad🤷🏻‍♀️

Great venue to catch a drink with friends or work colleagues after a busy day. Very convenient (and covid friendly) table service via the table QR code or NFC tag - just tap to use. Just order and pay for your drinks without leaving your position. Super idea!

Really nice bar in a good location in East Perth. Staff were really friendly, service was good, and a good selection of tap beers and ciders. They also have espresso Martinis on tap, which is usually so much of a disaster that I don't get why venues do it, but really wasn't too bad! Ordered a steak medium rare and it came out ever so slightly over looked, but was otherwise very nice. There was a quiz night on when I visited which is also good to know that they do this, because I love a good quiz night! Would come come again.

Not for me. Because they don't even have fresh juice nor tea or coffee. Don't like the mocktail. But the Barramundi was 10/10, really good. The dessert were nice but too sweet for me. Parking is not easy and expensive on Wilson. Spend $24 for 4 hours parking. Staff were friendly.

Had a wonderful afternoon at The Royal for an end of year work function. The many shared plate food selections we had were tasty and fresh. Has a great selection of beers an wines. Service was excellent. I'll definitely be back. Recommended.

Great place for a get together. Nice setting, great food and bar staff, not keen on having to prove I'm adult enough to have tequila without getting smashed, duty of care I suppose, but still... a tad frustrating when you have to argue to get one when you have spent 1200 on alcohol alone. 🤷‍♀️Still worth 5 stars though, great place, great night

It was very quiet at 10pm on a Saturday night. So there were no queues for drinks and good drink services. The tequila was smooth. We had a great night but would have been better with some music

We were hosted by Charlotte who took care of us very well. Every dish was on the point. The appetizer, cauliflower fritter and calamari were perfectly golden brown/crisp. We had steak, burger, snapper and pasta for mains which also were exactly the way we requested. We finished off with the poached pear which gave the meal the perfect finale. Oh the mocktail was great too! Overall, a perfect experience, by the water. Highly recommended.

The linguine was over cooked, consisting of a few prawn heads, a few long strands of rubbery calamari and a small piece of white meat that I assume was once some part of a fish. I doubt if there was any chilly or other spice. I had a couple of mouth fulls before calling it quits. What was once a great place with wonderful food is now a shadow of its former self.

The Royal is such a great vibe and atmosphere on a sunny spring summers day. Sit in, or out, service, food and drinks are great. Get the cauliflower croquettes, so tasty!

We went for lunch, 8 of us. Between us we chose a few different mains choices (The Royal has reduced the number of choices available though). Everyone enjoyed their meal: the food quality has remained high. Terrific location, with the staff very friendly and helpful.

Came here on a Friday night and sat outside. Was a little surprised that there were no servers and you had to order using the website, or go to the bar. Giving a 4/5 since I had some questions about the food and there were no waiters to answer them. The linguine marinara and both desserts were amazing. Others ordered the steak, and barramundi which were 5/5 as well. Overall, great atmosphere, great view, and amazing food. I did not see any people dining inside although I did not ask to.

New years eve dinner was done right at this gorgeous location. Stunning views. The staff were exceptional on such a busy evening. Not a foot wrong with service. Right from getting seated. Family friendly. We weren't treated any different because we came with children. Food was great. Oysters 👌 thank you for making our evening one to remember.

Excellent service, excellent food, fast service for a busy day and good views also! We had a large table and they handled it perfectly! Thanks for an excellent lunch.

Beautiful view! Meal was ok but took a long time to come out, generous amount of fish but not the squid, asked for vinegar but the staff didn’t know what that was. Ordered a cocktail with no ice as I didn’t want it strong or cold, the drink came out almost half empty and ridiculously strong. We were given no reason to come back.

Went out for Thursday night dinner. There's a quiz night for those interested. Sadly, had sold out of vanilla creme brulee 😕

Excellent place! The staff is friendly and the cocktails amazing! I ordered one with prosecco and lychee liquor and it was delicious

The inside area has an awful air freshener smell, like fake vanilla, very overpowering, particularily offensive when trying to eat a meal. If you're going then I'd suggest an outside seat. Caesar salad was nice but lacking in croutons & parmasean. Perfect amount of dressing, not too much. Once ordered drink & food came within a reasonable time frame.

I had dinner at The Royal with my family last night to celebrate my daughter’s 18th birthday. The rump steak was an excellent cut and cooked to perfection. Also, the fish and parmigiana were cooked perfectly and still moist. The staff were friendly and attentive. At one point it started to rain, and immediately a staff member was helping us to move to a sheltered table. A great evening.

This place is worth coming to because the view is stunning. The food was mostly quite nice but some was a bit lacking given the prices. Mostly, it just lost stars for me due to drink prices. I’m really not usually one to ever complain about pricing because I’m more than happy to pay well for good food and drink and understand businesses are also struggling with the current economic situation. Charging $9 for a pint of plain Soda water though is just wild to me and for that reason, I definitely wouldn’t ever come here if I was planning on having a few drinks.

So much more can be done with this place, so much potential. Food was ok, no table service as we were sitting outside. Desert was terrible! Créeme brule was sandy, it also came with a piece of bread which didn’t smell very fresh, also top of the burnt caramel they put some fruit paste which wasn’t very appetising. This place is beautiful but in desperate need of new management or Gordon Ramsey (Do a close to to the crème brule and you’ll see that it’s lumpy, it’s like scrambled eggs)

Ranjan and Anggie were great, generous servings and a perfectly cooked steak. Couldn’t ask for more 🤝
