We parked in the lot on the south side of the Park. The trail is obvious but not marked and has more of a deer path look to it. Soon you could tell a tractor had driven through at some point but we were definitely walking through plants (luckily I wore pants). Then we hit a more cleared path the width of a one way road. At some point you can see the asphalt from years gone by. We had a beautiful hike with our dogs. Woods, grassland, small lakes/wetlands to the sides. We hiked for a couple of hours and there is plenty more to go back and explore. It is rustic, no facilities! So come prepared. There is a picnic bench at the south parking lot.

Reviewing on in times of Covid: well preserved area and a nice nature stroll. The trail comes close to the lake but there’s not really access to it. All paths are flat in accessible to most.

Wide trail, variety of trees, lots of pine/evergreen. Beware, east side of the lake is flooded and you will have to trek through some brush to get past so be prepared if you to that route, you can always turn around.

Something about the reclamation nature is waging against miles of manhandled forestry and how verdant it all seems feels beautifully justified. The whole park feels like a snapshot of a world without people and its sculpted its own beauty from what the efforts of a failed venture. I really can't understate how glowingly magical it feels to walk roads totally left behind through walls of towering pines.

Abandoned unit. Gated, but you may hike on the gravel roads or orient on the land
