I don't usually (ever) like to write bad reviews, but I've also never experienced such unprofessionalism before. I text messaged Julie to inquire about an appointment, she told me the time and day she was free, and also that she travels to client's houses. That's fine, I set up the time and day and provided my address. The appointment was set for 5:30PM, and once it was 5:35PM with no text or call, I texted her to ask if she was on her way. She replied 25 minutes later at 6PM she was in a "bumper to bumper" accident and to "give her a few." I replied "no problem" and waited until 7:30PM to send another text asking if she was still coming or to reschedule. 20 minutes later she replied she can come the next morning instead at 10:30AM. I agreed to the new appointment. The next day comes, and at 9:44AM she texts me she is "on the way" and will arrive at 10:07AM. I reply telling her she can either park by the garage or on the street to come in the front door. I wait until 10:38AM and she still has not showed up, no call and no text from her. I send one to her asking if she is having trouble finding my place, and I notice the text bubble turned green (on an iPhone, all previous text bubbles are blue) which most likely means she blocked my number. She did not reply to my final text and when I attempted to call it went straight to voicemail, no return call. As of this writing, it's now almost 3 hours since she said she'd arrive. I don't think she's coming... I don't know what happened here or why she thinks it's ok to treat a potential new client this way, but I hope anyone reading this will find another, better, more professional hair stylist in the area that treats you with respect and uses mature adult communication.

Okay, so let me tell you all about my experience here. First off I am far from someone who goes to salons because I fear what people can do to my hair due to past experience. Anywho, i went to this specific spot because of the atmosphere of the salon itself as well as the positivity that just shines off the owner. She is vibrant and open, she speaks with people not at them and she listens. It may not seem like much but believe me it means a ton when the person controlling how you looks actually listens. She was not only able to achieve the exact style I wanted but she was able to get rid of all of my dead hair by cutting it into something I love. She was able to understand and capture the exact image I wanted. My next move is to go back for some color and touch up my cut. I will show before the cut, the dry hair that was let go of and the after picture. So my very first picture with the blue shirt shows how dry my hair was and crazy uneven. The second picture shows how much hair was taken off during the process. The third picture shows exactly what the back looks like and the last picture shows how the cut looks. I cant thank you enough for the life you gave back to my hair.

I've been going to Julie for a few years now, since when she worked in North Brunswick and Milltown. So glad that she opened her own shop. She's truly the only person that I trust to cut my hair. The shop is clean, fresh and definitely a great addition to South River. Not a complaint to be heard here. I would highly recommend Julie and The Barber Shop & Salon to anyone looking for a haircut, a shave, or just an authentic barber shop experience. I will definitely be coming back!

Julie was the first person who has ever dyed my hair and I can not recommend her enough!!! She’s extremely knowledgeable at her work, and made suggestions throughout the process which made what I was looking for come alive. I’m addition, she’s personable and really made my salon experience so much fun and exciting! Although her place is relatively new I know it is going to be so successful under her leadership. I’m already looking forward to my next service with Julie!

Julie is so sweet and welcoming. That is number one on my list when you meet a new hairstylist. She listens to what you want to get done and then takes time explaining exactly what the process of getting you there will entail. My daughter and I went for cut and color and I think she did a phenomenal job, also, it took her no time. She made the whole thing look easy. Very pleased with our experience.

Julie is wonderful!! She is a true artist— the color and cut are always perfect! She is always on-time, the shop is beyond clean, and I actually enjoy getting my hair done now. Would never go to anyone else again! Highly recommend.

Very friendly & very knowledgeable! Julie REALLY knows her craft! Salon is very clean, my appointments are always on time, and I am always at ease & feel very comfortable when I’m there. I had received poor service with damage to my hair elsewhere and I was reluctant to have someone touch my hair again; Julie made me feel at ease and gave me peace of mind! I would recommend Julies Scissors 100%!!

I love how Julie did my hair. She has given me so much positive info on how to take care of my hair especially with what shampoos were best for my hair. She made me feel and look amazing. Definitely will go back. I also loved how she even included and talked to my daughter while I was getting my hair cut. My daughter loved Julie and was amazed how great my hair looked. Thank you Julie you are amazing. My husband also loved it .

Went here for my first post quarantine haircut and was very impressed! Everyone was wearing masks, they took my temp when I got in and wiped the chair down before I sat down. Julie did a great job with my hair. She suggested I add layers instead of my usual blunt cut. I was a little nervous but trusted her and she was right. I love how it came out. It really frames my face in the most perfect way and is easy to style on my own. I am looking forward to my next haircut and would recommend her to anyone who needs a stylist.
