👍👍 I was transferred here from Orlando Health Emergency Room in Clearmont on life support to the ICU, where I spent 6 days. I have nothing but good things to say about this hospital, from the many nurses, doctor's, respiratory, speech therapy, x-ray, pharmacy to the cleaning woman. After being removed... People often mention staff, hospital, care, nurses, family, good, Select, facility, time, husband,

I was transferred here from Orlando Health Emergency Room in Clearmont on life support to the ICU, where I spent 6 days. I have nothing but good things to say about this hospital, from the many nurses, doctor's, respiratory, speech therapy, x-ray, pharmacy to the cleaning woman. After being removed from life support and now being able to talk my doctor's and especially my awesome nurses, my questions and my husband's questions and concerns were always listened to and answered. They were professional, and caring. All of my nurses were awesome. I would definitely use this hospital again. As I read the comments yes what food I got was very good, but seriously your rating a hospital on it's food. You're there because your sick and need to be, not because we want to or you want to try a new dining experience. Thank you for the awesome care or I wouldn't be here

All I can say is to watch your loved one closely and make sure they receive the best care because not all of the medical or administrators have the best interest of the patient at heart! My mother was there too long when she should have been taken to palliative care but after her deterioration, she was sent to hospice to die! The pandemic prevented me from visiting and she was at the mercy of the staff at Select! After the doctor attempted to play God and terminate her life through my mom’s legal guardian I had no confidence in that place! She lived even though her ventilator was disconnected but suffered much as a patient there! It was a horrible experience and I am heart broken that an incapacitated person had to experience such horrific care! Yes, there were a few medical staff that did their job at best but they are overworked. A very high turnover of nurses there! If I could rate zero, I would!

This place is like a prison hospital. This place should be the LAST resort for you to bring your family member to. The hospitals, especially AdventHealth, pushes you to come here. This place is terrible. Toilets don’t work, lack of care for wound care and they’re ventilators are from the 1960s. Patients stay in their feces for hours. Our family member developed extreme rashes and redness on the bottom. Nurses and CNAs do not care to work. Found them on their phones in the hallway while I rang the bell for assistance and no one came. No doctors at night. No Physical therapy or wound care during the weekend. No briefs or diapers for patients!!! They let them use the bathroom on the paddings in their beds. This place is horrific. STAY AWAY.

Excellent service! What a pleasant surprise I have had with this hospital and its staff. I have never had such a pleasant and comforting experience. My brother was in this hospital for several weeks, and despite the trauma, the staff (mainly Alex Mercado and Charlotte) called me every two or three days to update me on the progress of my brother's condition. Also, the therapists, nurses and other hospital staff communicated with me regularly to keep me informed of any changes. Again, I wish I could give it more than a 5-star rating, but with 5 being the maximum, that's what I give it. And hopefully, if I ever have to stay in the hospital for any length of time, I hope to end up in this one. By the way, I want to say, my brother is recovering quite well. Thanks a thousand.

This place is corrupt, my brother went there for vent weening , they gave up on him yet kept him there in limbo milking his Medicare till the very last day, case manager Erica repeatedly lied and dragged her feet with communication and transferring him. Reggie the Medicare rep disappeared even though he was supposed to have my brothers best interest in mind...we only got proper communication his last couple of days from a totaly rando case manager who by the way was very nice but it was too little too late...they contributed to prolonging my brothers revovery, multiple people from doh to the facility he just was transfered to can corroborate how corrupt they are..i.hope Karma finds Erica and all the other administrators who were so awful to my brother.

I am dividing this review up into two separate categories: Comfort and Care. Comfort: When my mother was at Select, she was regaining use of her extremities and could not yet move her arms. She had a roommate who had complete control over the one television. My mother did not have the dexterity for turning pages of a book, so her only option was to lie there and stare into space or watch what the roommate had selected. I’m sure that the cost for each patient did not vary based on their access to entertainment. Because no visitors were allowed, we had to rely on the staff to pass along our communication. We were assured that someone would be reading her email to her. She had a special email address set up solely for the purpose of well-wishes. After she returned to Advent, we got her ipad and none of the messages had been read to her. We were told that there was a person to coordinate Face Time calls since no one was allowed to visit. Sometimes, we would wait hours for a call that never came. On the weekends, when most family members were available for phone calls, no staff member was assigned to make these calls and we had to rely on the nurses to set them up when and if they could. Care: Before my mother went to Select, she had been receiving ice chips and sips of juice at Advent after a month with no food or drink. We were told this would not be allowed at Select. Every day, my mother would say she was thirsty. We discussed with the staff and were told she wasn’t ready, that the speech therapist would have to OK it. When it was finally approved for her to have ice chips (they told her that morning), she waited all day long and they were never brought to her. Each of her children called to speak to her providers multiple times and we did not receive return phone calls. The lack of communication to family members was appalling. We could not be there face to face to ask questions and advocate for her care. One day, we were on a Face Time call with our mother, and she told us that she had to lie in her own urine and feces for three hours before someone came to clean her up. This is very unsanitary and affects the dignity of someone without control of their extremities who relies on others for her care, especially a woman like my mother who was used to being strong and independent. This is obviously the major issue: our mother had a restless sleep so they gave her a sleep medication. She was very tired and incoherent for 3 days. They did not notice this obvious change in her demeanor and did nothing about it. If it hadn’t been for my brother pushing the issue for her to return to the ER at Advent, she would have stayed there in that condition for who knows how long with her disease progressing. By the time she returned to Advent, it was too late for treatment to be effective and she did not survive. Had they been more in tune with the changes and returned her to the ER sooner, treatment would have been administered sooner and perhaps changed her prognosis significantly. It should not have been up to her children to diagnose her condition from over 1000 miles away.

With the exception of a couple of not so great CNAs everyone was great. Carline Lesperaule was very helpful with food orders. The physical therapy team was the best. Just wish they had on the weekends. Nichole ,my Case Manager, was awesome! Worked very hard with the insurance companies so I could stay the lenght og time needed. Thanks all!!!

Very clean facility. Erica was so great to work with and the doctors really helped us understand exactly what to expect. Alex the food manager had a fun time keeping up with my husbands seven meals a day :) physical therapy sessions twice a day and all the countless nurses, rn’s, nurses assistants, pulmonary team, nutritionist and cleaning staff are all professional and very friendly. Dr. Ayadi is fantastic at what he does.

67 days ago when my husband first came to select specialty Hospital I was not impressed with the nursing staff. I did not feel they were giving him the attention he needed, and a few of the CNA’s had no bedside manner. Once we got used to them and they us, my feelings changed immensely. This is definitely a five-star institution. The facility is kept very clean. The food is wonderful, it really is home-cooked comfort food. The administration really cares about the patients. The nursing staff is understaffed, but they do the very best to keep the patients comfortable and safe. Where SSH really excels is in their therapy, Respiratory physical, occupational, and speech. Every single therapist went above and beyond their duties. When my husband entered the hospital he was on a ventilator, feeding tube, could not move, and had a very bad infection. He will be leaving without the vent or trach, no feeding tube, can move his arms and legs, and no longer has the infection. We could not be happier with his progress. A very special thank you to Dr. Harrinarine Madhosingh, infectious disease specialist. My husband had an infection which was resistant to most antibiotics, but that didn’t stop Dr. Madhosingh. He kept trying different antibiotics and a combination of drugs until the infection was under control. Dr. Ali and Dr. Vangala were also great and treating my husband. The real stars of SSH are the therapists. Respiratory worked day and night to get my husband to breathe on his own. Physical and occupational therapy, got my husband to move his arms, sit in a chair, and most recently he is now moving his legs. The speech therapist got him off the feeding tube. She checked on him every day and stayed on top of his progress. I wish I could mention everyone that helped my husband, but there were so many. I would like to mention a few, that really stood out. Tiny, Dr. Vangalas’s Nurse Practitioner, Speech Therapist Lauren, Respiratory Therapists Barbara, Lynn, Gregory, and Joseph. Physical Therapists Cintia, Andrea, and Daniel. Occupational Therapists Samantha and Noel. Nursing Staff Kenny L., you seemed to always be there when my husband needed to be moved, Elizabeth, Maureen, Alexis, and Emanite. Thank you all for getting my husband to the next phase of his recovery on to a skilled nursing facility. I would not hesitate to send a family member of a friend to Select Specialty Hospital south.

Some nurses here don't like answering calls and operators sometimes don't pick up calls. I appreciate the Doctors and Assistants, particularly Alex.. So helpful and informative. Would give a better rating if calls were handled a bit better.

My mom was hospitalized at Select specialty hospital south . Our experience there was great and amazing . Especially when the Hurricane Ian came and they closed the facility and no visitation allowed Of course my dad was panicked and anxious and the whole nine yards name it but Alex the patient advocate helped us throughout those days , we called him and he make sure my mom was ok and he did above and beyond our expectations . They did even change the visitation hours for my dad to visit my mom , also the amazing nurses Suzette,Selly, Jacqui, Emilio, Emanite and CNA’s Setilde, lassandra, guerlie, Ann Marie, Erone Respiratory therapist Christina day and night shift Christina . The facility is clean and the people are nice and approachable. The Doctors and nurse practitioner are very accommodating on our concerns about my moms health. They did everything like tests and lab works to make my mom is comfortable. The charge nurse was good and the case manager Greta was amazing. We are very thankful and blessed that we chose that facility for my mom.

My name is Patricia Hayes. Today I can call myself a 67 year old survivor of Covid, and yes I had several underlying comorbidities. The odds were not in my favor. Three weeks into my treatment in the hospital in Winter Haven, it became evident that I needed to be transferred to a specialty hospital in Orlando called Select Specialty Hospital south. This was to wean me off of oxygen and take physical therapy to walk again. Select South was my miracle I needed to accomplish further healing. After a day of adjusting, I started receiving some of the most professional medical treatment I have ever received. The doctors I had immediately assess the situation and treated my issues immediately. ALL of my nurses were extremely attentive and caring. Respiratory therapy weened me off of my oxygen with ease and Physical therapy has me up walking whole using a Walker. The food was delicious, the facility is immaculate, the nurses aides promptly by my side when I needed them. It is a small hospital with a big heart and would be a great choice for yourself or a family member with a critical healthcare necessity. They have a caring and knowledgeable administrative staff that will promptly answer all questions. Oh...not to forget ...the best, most compassionate RNs in the entire Florida state medical system....Please, give them a call, your life may depend on it.

I was told that this hospital had more time to take care of my husband. But that was not true the nurses hardly came in the room while I was there and I was there every day. They used tap water to give him his medication. When I questioned it I was told that their tap water was better than the bottled water I saw them use at Advent Health. I was very disappointed.

I am writing this review for my my mother, Carmen B. She spent a week in this facility and was very well taken care of. They were attentive, caring and friendly. They respected our requests. The food service was also excellent. My mother struggles with her appetite. When she requested different menu items that were more appealing to her, they made sure she got what she wanted. The prepared foods always seemed fresh. I trust that if my mother were ever have to go back to this facility she will be tended to very well!

My husband was transferred to Select Specialty Hospital in Edgewood, Fl from a local hospital. His care in the beginning was a bit rocky. There was no continuity of nursing care. A different nurse every day. Once we spoke with the Director, things became much better and he gas’s them same nurse for several days. They ordered Hypoallergenic bedding for him. Faith, R.N . was Exceptional! She explained things, talked with us, and we knew what to expect. Pedro, R.T. is the best Respiratory Therapist of all. He took extra steps and care to get my husband off the ventilator. Kim, Speech Therapy was very good, kind, answered all questions. Alex, Food Management stopped by every day to check on my husband, sent food as soon as my husband was able to eat. He checked daily to see if my husband was pleased with the selection, taste, quantity, etc.. The food prices for family in the cafeteria are priced decent and a large portion is given. The only downfall is the cafeteria is closed at dinner time for family.

I have been at Select South for 3 weeks, with my wife who was badly injured in a car accident, with me experiencing much lesser injuries, hence I have been daily at her beside. My wife has received AWESOME!! Care from a GREAT group of RNs, RTs and other staff support as well as the Doctors. The consistency of REAL care for their patients has been IMPRESSIVE. One personal surprise, given that I am there every day, has been the EXCELLENT quality and interesting variety of differing dishes served in the Cafe for staff and visitors. The MASTER Chef, Carline is AMAZING, as a chef and a caring person like all I have met at Select South. My overall medical and personal experience has been OUTSTANDING. I am deeply grateful to ALL there.

Everyone was exceptional in their respective care. So it's hard just to mention some,.but I'll say that physician like Dr. Ali, pulmonologist, who always pay attention very closely, to give me treatment promptly.Dr. Ali always commutated with me about the plan, &, never I had to wait a long time to receive a breathing treatment for that i must mention the RTs were excellent. Alex (PA) very knowledgeable and on top of everything 😊. The nurses like Lymarie, Marybel, Margarette, Juan, Luis and others that are i don't remember their names. They went above & beyond to give care I needed. CNAs as well like Latasha, Nancy then again others that i don't remember their names. : ( Alex from the kitchen who often went to my room to ask how was I doing. But he was not the only one. Nurses and their assistant also would go to my room to check on me. Therapists were also exceptional all of them.! Most of the staff at Sky Top View Rehap provided exceeding expectations service.. Very grateful, Ruth Lebron

My mom maria villegas was on select. For about a month, the care she received was of a very good quality, most of the nurses treated her with a lot of love and respect, during her stay in select she recovered and began to eat. The most important thing for me and my family is that she was discharged and is already at home with us. Thanks to all the staff that made my mother's recovery possible. and I definitely recommend this hospital.

Due to a series of unfortunate events, while vacationing in Orlando, my family member ended up at Select Speciality. I am so grateful for all the help and support during our stay. From housekeeping, therapists, nurses, doctors, maintenance, and many many more - I am so thankful for such a caring staff. Everyone we encountered were amazing! I especially wanted to thank Ms. Elaine, Carline, and the dietary team for their delicious meals especially since I was over 4,000 miles away from home. It was very comforting. I would also like to thank Phylissia for her tremendous support as I tried to navigate through everything.

I was transferred here after spending almost 3 weeks in the ICU at Advent Health due to Covid-19 and my experience here was the best. The health care professionals treated me like family. The nurses were there checking on me at all hours of the day and night to make sure I was okay, if I needed everything, they were always there. The doctors that saw me were very informative and answered all of my questions and concerns without any negativity and genuinely cared to make sure I was comfortable. The physical therapists were beyond amazing and pushed me to get stronger with extreme kindness and compassion to my condition. The wound doctor that saw me many times would always sit with me and chat about my wounds and give me advice especially when I was experiencing a lot of anxiety. Even the kitchen staff came and saw me to see what I wanted and if I had any preferences for food. The respiratory therapists and doctors treated me amazingly and worked in getting me so much stronger as that was the biggest concern for me. After spending 12 days on a ventilator, I was able to go home without an oxygen tank. My family was always given updates and were able to drop things off for me even with the Covid visitation policy. I can’t say enough great things about my awesome experience here. I would truly recommend this place from the bottom of my heart. Even though I didn’t have a choice in coming here and I was upset I wasn’t able to come home straight from the hospital my experience here changed my life, my health, and my outlook. I’d like to thank everyone who cared for me while I was here from the bottom of my heart. Blessings to all. I will never forget you guys. Wilma Gelpi-Laracuente.

My husband was here for 3 weeks. The level of care and concern was the best we have experienced. All questions were answered. All staff was polite and kind. I was kept current on what was happening and everything was done to get him better to move on to a rehab center. Thank you to everyone for your help, you will forever be in our hearts and prayers of thanks.

The food here is great! Not like regular hospital food. Breakfast Lunch or Dinner we have yet to get a bad meal. Carline is very aware of my food allergies and makes me special meals some days to compensate for my allergies. The cafeteria is open for lunch to anyone.

What a great place the cafe is to eat for lunch Mrs Elaine and Ms Carline are the greatest along the staff. While my family member was at Select I knew I could get a good meal every day. And it was so delicious. I will be going back soon

There is a lack of communication in this building and Dr. Ayadi is the worst! *Update* 11/25/2022 After my husband fell into cardiac arrest and was set to ORMC, we had to bring him back here because of the location. I asked for a different room and different set of care team professionals. They changed the staff and Dr around and I can see a difference for the better. I pray it still goes in a good direction. **Update to the update** I am tired of giving updates because some things don't change. Like how when you try to check on your loved one by phone, why is it that the staff gives you the run around? Day or night staff. Just over it.

My Mother had a hemorrhagic stroke in September 2022. She was initially treated at Adventhealth hospital in downtown Orlando and was moved to Select Specialty South in October. Her being moved was extremely nerve-wracking for us as a family as we continued to go through the motions of this process. We couldn't have asked for a better care family than the one we found at Select. Everyone from the front desk to the nursing staff was attentive, welcoming, reassuring and empathetic the almost 3 months she was there. Dr. Ayadi and her Infectious Disease doctor were there everyday, keeping us informed and on top of everything that came up. She was more than taken care of the entire time and although her recovery from her massive brain injury is taking longer than we hoped for, they made it easier on us as a family, while she was there. Their smiling faces made it comfortable for us to be there on a daily basis. We met people we will always remember that went out of their way to hold our hand and support us the whole time she was there. From Pedro, her respiratory tech to even the cafeteria staff that loved on us the whole time. Elaine, you're our favorite person in the world! Thank you for being such a ray of light. Alex, thank you for checking on us the entire time when it wasn't even part of your role - the food management staff is lucky to have you as their leader. When it was time for her to move to the next facility, Nicole her case manager was more than accomodating to our requirements and never rushed us as she knew it was an important next step for her and us. If you have the option of trusting your loved one with them, it will be the best decision you would make for them and their care.

The food was awesome and the people in the cafeteria was very kind! I especially enjoyed Carline, very sweet, kind and caring! The doctors are really amazing, caring and down to earth not like your typical doctors! I was here 10 years or so ago and it has changed so much, its so much better than it was back then! I would definitely recommend this hospital to other people!

This facility was literally a nightmare! My husband was there due to brain injury for a couple of weeks. Some of nurses assistants could not even brush his teeth 4 times a day, a directed by his doctor. He got an infection in the mouth because of that. To make matters worst, he was transported to ORMC to get a cat scan, and the nurse at the select facility did not sedate my husband and, therefore, he was not able to get the cat scan. However, there were a handful of nurses that went the extra mile.

I don’t understand how so many people are putting this facility as a 5 star place. My father stayed there for a couple of weeks and it was hell. My mother was constantly stressed since the people here don’t really do their job. You have to tell them more than 5 times and practically order them to do their job sometimes. There’s only a few people who actually show that they care about the patient and are willing to actually work at their job. I pressed the call nurse button on the remote and no one responded for 10 minutes. When I asked a nurse if someone could help, she told me to find my nurse. Looking at the other patients you’d think it was an asylum. And I get that the people who go there aren’t in the best condition, but when my mother speaks to other family members who visit the hospital they all have the same complaints that I listed in the previous paragraph. The majority of people here don’t do their job and don’t show care like in the facility my father is in now.

The food here is very good. The chefs definitely take their time and put effort into their food. The kitchen staff was great. They will take your order and make sure you get exactly what you want to eat. Overall experience was excellent.

The food at Select Specialty Hospital South has been excellent. They were diverse and very good. The best part was the mashed potatoes. I was told they were actually real potatoes and not instant. The first chicken Marsala that I ate was delicious. Last night it was a little salty but good. Anyone coming here can expect delicious meals

They let my father die. He did not receive the medications on time, they did not do his physical therapies. only one or two people did their work but they could not stay 24 hours in the hospital. I do not recommend anyone to leave an elderly person in this hospital, it will not be in their priorities, the terrible general behavior, from the director like that of the chief pulmonologist. For them my father was just a patient number from whom they took money from the medical insurance

My stay here was very peasant. I enjoy the meal selection and the dietary team they always make sure I get what I like to eat. My room was always clean and the nurses, cna’s and the doctor’s was very helpful. I will definitely recommend this place.

The decision was made to have our loved one go to this facility because of the following that we we were told by the staff: 1. We would get a daily update. 2. The facility asked for 3 names and said the 3 family members could call to check on our loved one. 3. The facility said 2 different family members could arrange a 15 min FaceTime meeting 3x per week. Our loved one is still in the facility and after only a few weeks there have been many concerns. There are days that we do not get an update. In addition, we were told a doctor would call the POA with an update and didn't call for 2 days. On another occasion, the facility called the POA with an update in the morning. On that same day I called in the evening and only wanted to see how our loved one was throughout the day. The call would have taken less then 5 minutes. However, it took me 25 minutes to get through to the nurse, I think his name was Emilio. I asked for an update and immediately he told me NO and said the family got their update in the morning and to call the POA. I said I only wanted to check on her and he was very rude and standoffish. I asked to speak to his supervisor. The nursing supervisor said she would talk to him. Lastly, the facility called today and said that they are changing their policy so that each family can now only have 1 FaceTime call per day for the 3 days during the week. So instead of our loved one getting 30 minutes of companionship 3x per week it's now down to 15 minutes 3x per week. I asked why the decision was made and I was told that the facility was at full capacity, 65 beds, and there wasn't enough time to do 2 calls per day per patient. I asked who made that decision and I was told the higher ups. I asked specifically who and was told Sarah, the Nurse Manager. My understanding was that the patient's well being would always come first. However, in this case, a full census in this hospital means that they are maxing their revenue, which equates to more profit. Yes, this hospital is for profit and obviously Sarah, the Nurse Manager, is not concerned that our loved ones need that vital communication to heal. I have been a small business owner for 15 years and my CNA's take care of seniors. We ALWAYS do what's right for the customer. I am very disappointed in this facility and would caution you if you are contemplating sending a loved one there during the Covid-19. I will be asking the entire family to start posting reviews on this facility so that we can share our experience with others.

make sure you visit your loved one frequently. I arrived and my dad was sitting with diarrhea everywhere, and it was completely dried which mean he was like that for some time. The Respiratory Therapist Mara was extremely rude when I asked her to help my father while he was choked on his own saliva. I was told by Mara that it was unfair to the other patients for her to spend an extra minute with my father. Fortunately another nurse walking by saw he was struggling, and took it upon herself to help.

Although the first impression was not ideal due to miscommunication upon being transferred from ORMC, Select Specialty Hospital succeeded in providing my husband with quality care. During his three week stay after suffering a catastrophic workplace injury, by the grace of God, they managed to get him off sedation, off all IV meds, off the ventilator and oxygen, talking again with a Passy-Muir valve, sitting and standing again, walking, using the toilet… and finally they removed the tracheostomy. We are delighted to see him recover so rapidly. Thank you Select! And special thanks to all the staff, techs, CPAs, Nurses, and Doctors. Shirley, Olga, Emilio, Bebe, Lulu, Jose, Hector, Noelle, Amanda, Fabrina, Natasha, Kimberley, Jeff, Dr. Vangala, Tini, and everyone else who has had an impact on our family.

Many people have commented on the medical staff, but I’d like to say how great of a job the cafe staff does. My family member has been a patient here for some time and no matter what, I can always count on Elaine and the whole kitchen staff to greet me with a smile and serve up delicious food. I have never gone away hungry or unsatisfied with a meal served here!
