Great place to visit and excellent audio tour included. Nice to get so close to some of the furnishings and amazing tapestries which often in National Trust properties you are kept well away from. Sadly because of the time of year the gardens were closed which would have added to the experience. Well worth a visit though

Visit only if you are interested in royal life. It's a bit overwhelming and surreal inside. The garden is beautiful and worth a look. The view of the Arthur seat is magnificent from the garden. They offer a lift to take the buggy inside but not so kids friendly inside the palace as it's mostly dark and less space to walk. They provide free audio for a self-guided tour.

Really a wonderful place to visit. Knowing that this castle is still used today is very cool. Seeing things the queen uses while she is there is so interesting! Really loved walking through everything related to Mary Queen of Scots. The cafe was quite lovely as well! The abbey was an added bonus, as was the incredible views of Arthur’s Seat

My adult son and I really enjoyed our visit on 6/10/22. Beautiful and fascinating place. The tour inside, assisted with the self guided audio, was fantastic! Recommend purchasing tickets in advance. Allow some time for tea at the Cafe.

If you’re visiting Edinburgh you have to visit here. We booked the night before online (slightly cheaper) Turned up had our tickets scanned , no wait at all. Then grabbed our headphones and small tablet. These are optional but I would advise getting them as they are very informative. As you enter different rooms / outside around the house you choose what section to listen to. They are numbered in each room so you won’t get lost / confused. Sections are very informative and have videos to watch too. Very beautiful building with exquisite rooms. It’s a brilliant experience visiting here. I spent just over an hour here. You could spend longer quite easily. It’s very easy to find.

I enjoyed my visit here very much. The interactive tour guide provides you with a clever mix of interesting facts and stories and also some personal contributions about Holyroodhouse from members of the royal family, such as Prince Charles and Princess Ann. All three - the palace with the remains of the abbey and the garden and the further surrounding, the great landscape make this place to an exceptional experience. No wonder this place is still used by the Queen for official ceremonies and entertaining.

This self-guided audio tour was very well set up and allowed you to enjoy viewing each room without being overloaded with information. Most of the palace is easy to negotiate and you have the ability to skip certain audio portions if you choose not to climb stairs, etc. the outside gardens are not to be missed. The gift shop is well stocked and you don’t need to go on the tour to make a purchase. There is a cafe and restaurant on the premises. A must visit if you are in Edinburgh! No photos are allowed inside the castle and security is present throughout. This is a working castle.

We were so glad we visited this location while in Edinburgh. It was fascinating to see a palace still in use by royalty. The displays and information about Mary Queen of Scots and her murdered assistant were riveting. Don’t miss learning about why all the portraits in the Great Hall look kind of similar. By all means use the free audio guide: it’s indispensable (because the palace is still in use there are few static displays). Visit the gardens too if you have time, and the adjacent Holyrood Park is lovely.

Known site as the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, the official residence of His Majesty The King in Scotland. We were for a 4hours tour. Recommended to book ticket in advance due to skip line.

Very comprehensive audio guides that provide a tour of such a historical site. It is a beautiful place to visit with lots of information. My favorite part is one can see the place where Mary Queen of Scots killed her husband with the bloodstain still available. Please note that photos aren't allowed inside the palace, but one can spend that time looking around instead.

Beautiful historic palace. Definitely one of the main attractions of Scotland. The audio guide is one of the better ones we've experienced, it's engaging and informative whilst not being draining. You get to learn a lot about the history of the palace and Scotland whilst being entertained. Highly recommend getting tickets in advance.

Really enjoyed my visit here. Miles better than I expected, the history of the place is phenomenal. The interactive tour guide included in the entrance fee is great and really pieces together the story telling. Amazing to think so much history can exist in one place and so well preserved, especially with it being a working palace. Ask on the way out to upgrade your ticket for free to get 1 years entry, well worth a revisit if your are in the area.

Today, we had a lovely self-guided tour of the palace. The user-friendly audio guides provided a great overview with supplemental information, if desired. The house and grounds were well-maintained and the personnel was friendly and knowledgeable. We were fortunate to see the special Platinum Jubilee Display and opted to also include the Masterpieces from Buckingham Palace (a separate charge). Helpful Hint: Go early and miss some of the crowds.

Beautiful palace that’s still in use. Excellent audio visual tour that was easy to use and you can go at your own pace and choose whether or not to watch all the content. I would go again just for the architecture but the history, art, and artifacts are great. There are lots of castles to see in Scotland and this was one of my favorites. Don’t forget to tour the gardens.

A truly ancient Royal Castle, which is still regularly used by the British Royal Family today. The entire first floor and parts of the second floor can be visited. Definitely worth it and a highlight of any visit to Edinburgh.

I went to the Palace just before Christmas. An audio tour with some added pictures (on a small tablet device) was included in the ticket. It was lovely to see inside the castle, and the audio tour gave an excellent, entertaining, and informative summary of different rooms in the Palace. Going through the Palace and listening to the accompanying audio took around 60-90 minutes. I'd recommend the Palace for couples, friends and families (with children 11+).

Easy to follow audio guide, explained the main points in each room. I was able to bypass the steep spiral stairs up to queen Mary's bedchamber, staff were readily available to ask for assistance. Some rooms had seats available to use while you listened to the audio.

Really enjoyed my visit to the Palace of Holyrood while I was in Edinburgh. The palace is huge with so much to see. Don’t forget to grab the audio guides from the ticket counter, I found this to be very helpful during my visit. I learnt so many historic facts about the location and also about Edinburgh from this visit. Great day out for kids as well. The ticket was £18 and it was totally worth it. I would advise buying the tickets in advance to avoid queues. Allow around 2hrs for the whole visit. You can also access the hiking path of Arthur’s seat from here.

This was a wonderful stop when we were in Edinburgh. We got to visit the Palace and learn about the royal family. The downside is there are a lot of areas you cannot take pictures in because it is an active Palace. Other than that I would recommend a stop here.

This is a must-see attraction when going to Edinburgh. I would recommend buying tickets in advance. I loved this tour so much and it was very well done. Easy process with the audio guide and headphones. Staff were in most rooms if you needed help. Extremely well organized and great attraction. Highly recommend.

Recommended for a visit if in Edinburgh. I found it a more interesting tour than the Edinburgh Castle. Maybe it was due to the audio guide and rich history explained. Tickets costed about £17.5.

The palace is a good place to visit if you are in Edinburgh. Quite big and the guided radio tours were quite good. You may be able to complete the visit in 2 hours maximum. It has a lot of paintings and tapestry (quite big ones). A lot of state rooms and art. No photos were allowed inside the state rooms

Lovely tour of the Palace with friends who had never been before. Lots of interesting things to see but could only rake photos outside. Lively gardens and of course the view of Arthur's seat.

Such a beautiful palace with lots of interesting history throughout. Shame that the Abbey was shut when we went, but still lots of indoor things to see. The free audio guide was also very informative and useful. I like how it included videos of members of the Royal family.

Very interesting visit and a great audio tour included in the entry fee. Highly recommend buying your ticket in advance to avoid the line. The audio included by the Royal Family members just shows how out of touch they are with reality. One states, "It may look grand from the outside but it just operates like a normal home, very intimate setting." Thousands of square feet with the gallery alone being larger than most homes.

This is the first time I have been inside. The information gadget was on a lanyard so it was a lot easier to use. The inside of what you saw is where the royal family entertained there is a lift to the next floor but not to the top floor. The gardens that I walked round were easy for wheelchairs.

Loved walking around here today, love the history and hearing about the famous people who have visited here. We had the audio tour and it took a bit to figure out how to operate it. Shame really, as the guy who made them available on entry, wasn’t the most welcoming. “Here is your audio guide and grab some headphones”. And off we were sent out into the courtyard. Just remember to look for the signed boards, free standing with numbers on it. The corresponding number will be on your audio player, press the same number and you’re golden. After walking around the house, we eventually walked outside. We exited next to the abbey ruins, and were not able to walk around and view them. This is the reason why I gave 3 stars. Why charge full price when you are unable to do the full visit? Shameful really and left a bitter taste. Would I visit again? Yes, but hopefully the full visit will be available.
