Used to be a great breakfast/lunch spot. This place is badly in need of restoration. The seats and tables are worn beyond where they should be. The menus are dirty sticky and falling apart. They're known for their homemade soups, which are available to go by the quart. I've never tried them. They are short handed, like many local places, and service suffers as a result. I don't understand how this place stays in business, it is very dirty and run down. They follow no COVID protocols, whatsoever

Stopped here with my family in between errands. Would never come here again. 4 out of 5 of us got horribly ill from the food. If that doesn’t make you think twice about going here then… not one of our orders were right. And we didn’t get half our drinks or sides that were ordered. Yet charged for them. The bread was not fresh, the eggs were not cooked even most of the way, the cheese was rubbery (yes rubbery like it has been sitting out to long), and the meat tasted old. The inside is gross. Missing ceiling tiles, mold growing on the ceiling, signs of water damage throughout, the staff look in disarray, the owner or manager in crocs and sweats dealing with customers. To be honest the health department should shut them down.

The building looks long overdue for maintenance - but that gives the place atmosphere. The service was good although the place was almost entirely empty at noontime. The food was mediocre, although the waffle fries and sweet potato fries were very good. I hadn't been here in at least 25 years and it seems to have gone downhill. I wanted the experience and now don't need to repeat it.

If you're looking for delicious breakfast food, this place is great for take out. But the actual restaurant is disgusting. In every possible way. The building looks like it hasn't been renovated since 1890. The menus are filthy and greasy. The tables are gross with old tablecloths. Whoever owns this place should consider doing anything, literally anything to update this restaurant. I will never return.

Mediocre food. Service was lousy. We waited for 20-30 minutes just for our menus. It's a shame. It used to be really good. There are better diners in the area. The price was good though. It's fairly a cheap place to eat.

7/29/22 - Closed for renovation. I guess they finally listened to everyone's comments about the place being very worn and dated. Edit: Nope! Shut down by the health department for numerous health code violations. After two weeks of cleaning and remediation, it's back open as of 8/16/2022. Who's gonna take one for the team and be the first to try it out? I hear the mouse poop soup it out of this world.

This is one of our brunch spots in the neighborhood. Love their soup - not salty at all. Love their coffee - I can drink it black even. We ordered the green omelette and a club sandwich. The sandwich was from the lunch section so we got to try the lentil soup. Everything was excellent. I loved their waffle fries. We felt bad for our waitress - she was the only one for the right wing and all tables were filled. She was running non-stop between tables for the whole duration we were there. We didn’t realize the ownership change until we heard other tables talking about how the restaurant was short staffed and their orders were messed up. The only down side is that the phone signal is very weak inside, but it is also kind of nice that we can be off our phones and focus on food and talking with our loved ones.

The food was amazing, prices are fair, and staff was super friendly. They made my day and truly appreciate it. Whenever I am in the area again I will come back and try their soups which look really good.

I have stopped here for soup about 100 times in my life and it has always been good, but yesterday I was in the area and stopped. I purchased 2 soups, 1 was in the refrigerator and 1 was sitting on the table by the register. I took the soups to go and when I got home I heated up the lobster bisque, which was the one sitting on the table at the restaurant. Within 15 minutes of eating the LB soup I became violently ill and that lasted for hours! This was the only thing I ate. By reading the reviews here I am sure the new owner is going to respond and tell me all the reasons it wasn’t the soup or it was only on the table for a few minutes but that doesn’t change that it happened. Sometimes things happen and the responses with excuses make the owner look worse. Just wanted to update that it happened and this is why. Do NOT buy soup that is sitting on a table and not refrigerated. RESPONSE TO THE OWNER BELOW….The good news is I went to an actual doctor not webMD and the facts are it was food poisoning. It you spent half as much time doing the right thing at your restaurant as you did in replying to bad reviews you probably wouldn’t have bad reviews. I REPEAT DO NOT BY SOUP FROM THEM THAT IS SITTING ON A TABLE, ESPECIALLY SEAFOOD SOUP. Be accountable and take responsibility.

Edison Family Restaurant is a great place for breakfast and lunch. They have a great selection of food choices on their menu. Sometimes it's difficult to decide what to have. Their pancakes, waffles and French toast are awesome. The staff is friendly and their prices are reasonable.

I had gyro meat and eggs for breakfast. The portions were okay, as there was enough potatoes to feed three people. I then saw on the way out a pack of two galumpkis, which I could not resist buying! Been over a decade since I've been here, but it's still one great place to eat!

Been going here for decades but back today after about a 5 year hiatus. Lots of change. The food is still very good but the place needs renovating. The booth seats were seriously uncomfortable. Service was good!

Food was ok , pretty basic standard diner style. The atmosphere and look was horrendous. Ceilings were stained and filthy , benches and seats were completely torn and damaged , looked like it has not been maintained or fixed anything in 20+ years. A shame too bc it used to be nicer in there.

Went w friends and may I tell you that this taint rustic place feels nostalgic out of a vintage movie. Server was extremely bubbly and helpful and the food was awesome Pancakes, French toast and the eggs were so fresh was told they use a local farm w organic eggs Also took home a spinach pie and some soups which I must say filled every nook and cranny of my hunger for the next couple days and man even if you add water when reheating it feels like I’m getting two quarts for the price of one cause they are so filled w ingredients Prices were also nostalgic to find this quality at the prices they sell it’s not usual Go to other diners and expect to pay so much more but this still left money in my wallet

I had the spinach & feta omelet with home fries. The omelet was prepared & presented well. The cook was too heavy on the feta, I could only eat half. The home fries were precooked & warmed in a pan, not crisp at all. I could only take 1 bite. The cup was smudgy, so I had to order a can of Bubly sparkling water. The server asked if she could bring me something else, but failed to ask how it was. I guess she knew it wasn't enjoyable. I love patronizing independent establishments, but it seems the spark has faded for EFR, sad to say. Their was a copious amount of soup options which looked very appealing.

Nice place, food exceeded expectations. The fries and chicken panini in particular were great. The interior is a bit dated, which sort of leads to the charm. Very reasonably priced.

Rude customer service. Passive aggressive behavior displayed. Soup does not taste even close to when the original owners were running the business. Soup is disgusting. Lost my business.

It’s strange that they have a sign that says best coffee on earth but only one type of coffee. (It wasnt the best on earth) then they had construction while eating on a Saturday morning that’s enough reason to not come back. Noone wants to eat with that loud noise . Do that when its closed like normal businesses. I have severe anxiety and had to actually leave and wait in the car due to all the noise .Place needs updating badly Edit : considering its a Saturday morning its not the time to fix something like that. You claim it was 5 minutes but thats indeed a lie. You can totally have one type of coffee but to have it PAINTED on your windows its the best on earth is a lie. That window sign is what brought me in so id suggest just putting average coffee on the window instead. You should know writing something like that is risky . We definitely will not be back but looking at how dead it was im very certain this place will not last too long . (Also the chicken noodle soup was horrible and tasted so salty like it came from a can )

My cinnamon French toast was burnt this morning and my side of bacon was two slices. Was told only two it’s thicker, that came burnt too. I’ve been a customer over 50 years. Since it changed hands it’s been down hill. Soups increased since December almost $1.50. Coupons stopped with new ownership. I’ve been quite for too long. I remember standing in line to get in, no lines and empty tables now, feel bad for servers.

The only reason I gave 4 stars because it is so hard to sit in the booths with the terrible cushions. Friendly staff. Good food and love the soups.

As far as the food, I tried EFD's seafood & broccoli breakfast omelet (I think that's what it was labeled on the menu...my bad...think it's labeled a New Orleans'). This omelet is (in the voice of P~Funk) "the bomb 💣." Also? Their grilled chicken w/eggs (had mine scrambled...I was being greedy that Saturday) ? Not bad 👍

You know a diner is going to be good when you see police cars in the parking lot. Took my son there for very early breakfast after picking him up at metropark. It’s a family diner and it shows. Very homey, not all slick with mirrors. My son had his first Benedict and the glory of hollandaise sauce was noted. I had SOS aka chipped beef on toast. Both were very good as was the coffee. Will definitely be back.

The food would have been good if seasoned. I ordered steak sand eggs. The steak was good after i seasoned myself. My kids had pancakes, waffles, they were good for the price.

Nice people run the homestyle local restaurant. Nothing fancy but the food is always good! Soup is definitely the standout here as well as the homemade dessert. Only open for breakfast and lunch.

Absolutely amazing!!! We love the atmosphere, service, and the fact that everything is authentic and fresh. The service is phenomenal and their desserts are some of the best we’ve ever had in the US!!
