Another massive tourist draw, but well worth the waiting and irritation. Excellent restoration work and many of the ancient walls have kept their original colors. Worth the stop!

Mastaba of Mereruka is the biggest non-royal tomb in Saqqara. The tombs are well preserved with intricate carvings and colorful murals. The 33 chamber tomb complex is massive. The site is still under reconstruction, so not all areas are open to tourists. Mereruka was the Vizier of King Teti, and married the king's daughter. Some of the chambers were dedicated to his wife.

This is a definite must do when in Cairo! Highly recommend booking a half day tour with Intrepid. My husband and I were the only ones on the tour and it was fantastic! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It is an amazing site, plenty of hieroglyphics and engravings, wonderful looking. One must buy an extra ticket specially for this particular tomb, its price is reasonable (₤ 80 LE i.e. approx. €4). Site personnel in charge of this tomb keep the place closed and locked and it is necessary to ask them for opening it, unfortunately they always ask for tips or start guiding and finally ask for payment. Anyhow, the place is very nice and worthwhile to visit, very recommendable.

Amazing to think that this is possibly the birthplace of construction.

Sooo much nicer than the main Giza complex, which is a tourist trap. Here you can see way more history, without people trying to sell you everything. Tickets are cheaper, and the interiors of the Pyramids are more detailed and the Mastaba is beautifully decorated with some of the best reliefs and scenes of ancient Egypt.

This was a burial tomb found in Sakara. Buried for 4500 years. Only the lower part of the structure survived, but the wall carvings are still very detailed and even some of the pigments used to adorn the walls can be seen. This is one of the only tombs where the male and female circumcision practice can be seen, fully displaying how barbaric and traumatizing it is. Simply unreal.

This is a very interesting site with much to see. It has many reliefs that show the lifestyles of ancient Egyptians. The guards at this site were exceptional bad. They kept asking for bribes to see certain areas and were very pushy. There is a great spot here that shows the sacrificial rituals complete with an alter.
