Run by women, hard working women. Kitchen is nice, great mexican taste, they care about others, there' a little museum, gallery and shop. You can have a Jamaica flower glass of fresh water, and read a good book while waiting for your order. Yes, they give away free books. Usually there are cultural events on weekends or afternoons, live music, and people gathering to have a good time, sharing good vibes.

A coworker introduced me to this hidden place off of Texas street. We were attracted to the albondigas with fideo. I ordered a large size. I also ordered a potatoe flauta plate with rice and beans. The staff was welcoming and showed us around the building while we waited for our prepaid to go food. After waiting for our food, the server brought my bagged order and said , we ran out of albondigas, so we gave you what we had left and an extra side of chicken soup instead. I was dissappointed and would have preferred she ask me what I wanted to do. Maybe order something else or get my money back. I had already waited too long and had to get back to work so I accepted the replacement soup. The large cup had two turkey albondigas in it. The food was good and the place has a story. I will have to go back again to see if I can try a full order and some of their other dishes. Check it out. Their menu has some good choices. See pictures.

This place an undiscovered jewel in a Mexican culinary experience The food is great, Monica, our server was welcoming and attentive, very clean, inexpensive, and the atmosphere/ motif is done in Mayan. They can accommodate about 100 people or more (It can even be rented for under 600$) Five star rating

Another great meal!!!! Absolutely great service and an astoundingly great meal!!!! The food is to die for here, especially the Sopa Azteca and Nopal Relleno. Came back from college Summer 2022 and the food was even MORE delicious. If there is one place to visit when in town, it’s this place.

Very good Mexican food. The flautas are big and delicious. The sopa de fideo has a very homemade taste. Service is fast and the employees are friendly and courteous.

Cafe Mayapan is open for take out and has a gordita special today with a free award winning book, "Into the Beautiful North". They're open from 11-3pm. Edit: omg the food is so simple and delicious! I don't normally like Jamaica since it leaves a tannic flavor behind, sometimes bitter, but theirs is amazeballs, slightly sweet, very floral, and a little sour/salty. I don't think I've had gorditas before other than Taco Bell and I'm glad my first authentic experience is with theirs. Filled to the brim with ground beef and potatoes, they aren't stingy with the lettuce and tomatoes either, the salsa added a little tang, and was not dry at all like I feared. The vegetable soup is a revelation. How can a simple soup of carrots, squash, and cilantro be so flavorful? I envy all the locals who were able to stop by lunch hour because this place is a gem!

Service was horrible. We had a party of 20 arrive and the waitress told us it was her busiest day to hurry up and order that she needed the tables. Didn't take all of our parties order it took over 1 hour to start getting our food which was wrong. Over 2 hours for us to get our food at different times so everyone wating for the rest of our party to get their food so some peoples food got cold waiting as its the polite thing to do. Horrible that we wanted to spend time together as a family to reminiscence about our father who we had just attened his funeral services but instead we had to experience such terrible service. I understand being short staffed but you should have told us you couldn't serve such a big party and we would have been more than happy to take our business elsewhere.

I absolutely love this place. We had a delicious lunch and did some shopping afterwards. I ordered the nopal relleno de queso, which was delicious, and my teenager had the sopa azteca which was also tasty. I appreciate that the portion sizes were just right we had enough to eat to feel full but didn't have any food that needed to be thrown out or taken home. We got a package of Inanna's delight herbal tea and I've been enjoying it! We browsed the little shop after our meal and found some beautiful items (alebrije earrings from Oaxaca and a bookmark from Chihuahua.) I can't wait to come back for future visits.

Excellent spot but will never go back. There's 2 waitresses Griselda and Hilda who are sisters and have history of credit card fraud ( Griselda's son has pending charges of credit card fraud..etc ( he obtained a senior citizens credit card w/o permission.) I saw them and made sure I paid with cash!! Get rid of them and I will definitely be back! That is not the end either these two grown ladies have history of breaking car windows so does that son of Griselda's. I was Disgusted when I saw that both work at this fantastic restaurant who is all about helping out women in need of help and a job.*** This restaurant actually hires women who are struggling and need help but yet some of these old women probably deserve it with their behaviors/actions towards other women !! Shame on you Griselda and Hilda!! You do not represent Mujer Obrera very well😔.

Good food and even better service! Will stop here again if i am in the area. Good vegetarian options. We tried Nopales fajitas which was really good and potato falutas with green sauce which was too mild for our taste, so try with red sauce if its an option but tasted good regardless. Our server was really nice and friendly. Do stop here and support them!

One of the hidden gems of the city, you can't go wrong with really anything here. I've had the enchiladas and a couple different burritos here and they are all good. The consome is also great. The overall market here is also worth checking out, the people that run the stores here are really friendly. Definitely will return, definitely recommend

I ordered the sopa Azteca and my daughter had the sopa de fideo with meatballs, so delicious!!and we had the agua de melon which was on point. The only thing I didn’t like was the tostadas, had a few tostadas that were chewy and not fully fried other than that We were satisfied with our meals

My wife and I visit this place frequently , the food is good and the service is friendly. They have plenty of parking, so far everything I have ordered I have enjoyed. The caldos are good. I easily get full with the large ones. My favorite drink is their Jamiaca water 👌. The prices are similar to Mexican restaurants around the area. Except some delay with big groups like everywhere else.

I've been to Mayapan many times over the years, whenever I'm visiting El Paso, and the food and the staff have always been wonderful. The menu always seems to have great things I can't find elsewhere, along with classic dishes. The menudo is by far the best I've ever had. I miss it when I'm away. The guisados for breakfast are excellent. The cafe de olla is delicious. Lunches are also fantastic. The staff is always friendly and helpful. And the mercado and exhibit are also cool. Just a magical place.

Waited 20 min for drinks. 30 min for our order to be taken. An hour later we still didn't have our food. Everyone around us arrived after us, received their food, ate, and left and our food never came out. Horrible experience and lost 90 minutes of our coveted Saturday.

Very dry and under seasoned food. The chicken burrito was dry and so was the taco, tasted like boiled shredded chicken. Only two tiny portions of salsa provided. Salad was soaking wet and tasteless. Definitely recommend that your restaurant serves food worth paying for cause this wasn’t worth it all .

  • 1/5 PRATHMESH J. 3 years ago on Google
Not worth even a penny what I paid for. Rojas burrito, Quesadilla and the beverage were all so bland that cannot even call it Mexican food place. Really disappointed.

Very poor service and food was below our expectations. All food was served cold and when asked to reheat the waitress was very rude about it. Fish was salty, pipian was good, chacales were ok. Also, we where there for the Cuaresma food, when we asked for a second plate of capirotada the waitress told us there was no more capirotada. Of course when we went to the counter to pay for the bad food we see another waitress serving plates of capirotada. Will not be coming back.

Nice display but the food is horrible and is extremely pricey. The Cafe Mayapan that I remember is not the same since they change location it just went from an enjoyable place to a place you can't enjoy.

  • 5/5 Michael D. 4 years ago on Google
This place is one of the most authentic eateries in El Paso. They do not sell conventional Mexican food. You would typically find this type of cuisine in southern Mexico. I love the fact it is off the beaten path and has an educational and cultural aspect to it. The music that they play is amazing as well. If you are lucky to find a live band, you are in for a serious treat! Foodwise, their tostadas and salsa is on point! It is slightly spicy with tons of flavor. Not that watered-down stuff that some restaurants pawn out do to "make it last". I ended up choosing the Chile Verde. It was amazingly well done. Something that an Abuelita would make for you. The refried beans were delicious and rice was excellent as well. I loved the corn tortillas, they were freshly made without the preservatives!
