I feel scammed! Free parking usually means for every guest not just 2 spaces. It is also is directly next to an extremely loud club and it doesn't get quiet until after 2 am. The parking meters also start at 8am making it impossible to sleep 8 hours to begin with. This isn't a hotel if you plan on sleeping. This place has no right calling themselves a hotel at all.

My husband and I and my mother in law stayed at this hotel not going to lie when we got there I was a little nervous because of the out side and the area but never judge a book because of its cover this place is a gem. There a lot of places to go eat and there a lot of sites to see since it’s in the downtown area. It is an older hotel so that dose mean there are stairs but if you need help to get to your room they will help you up the stairs there is a community room that dose have a full kitchen with stove sink and microwave to were you can make dinners and there’s also a rec room that has a TV a pool table and a ping pong table. For the rooms it was really nice the rest room are super clean and so is the room but there is some downsides not a lot but some. Since this hotel is around bars there is going to be some noise the people who work there will tell you before you do check in and they will supply you with noise canceling ear plugs this hotel is also a hostel and is popular with young people who travel around the world so some times you will people from these room laughing loud or playing music. But that still didn’t make this a negative experience I enjoyed my time at the Gardener Hotel and if I am in the El Paso area this will be my go to hotel.

One of the worst hotel experiences of my life. Expedia ad advertised “free parking”. I’m driving around looking for it so I call the front desk. “We have free parking but it’s all taken. You can park on the street until 8AM or pay for a lot.” I couldn’t seem to explain how that was NOT “free parking”. That’s how things started. From there it got worse. The AC didn’t work (was still being installed). Another AC outside my window, that apparently DID work was rattling loudly all night. However, I didn’t hear it when I went to bed because there was a VERY loud club somewhere nearby (base, screaming crowd, etc.) that drowned it out. That last part could have been fun on the right night but, unfortunately, I had to work the next day. To the owner, I have a vacation rental that is not the best. I honestly advertise it as it is and it has been constantly booked with night ratings. Honestly works because then people know what to expect. You would have been great for a party weekend. Not so much for a working one. The inaccuracies you put out there will prevent me from ever coming back. Too bad. It’s kind of a cool space. Sadly I’ll be looking for someplace else to finish the weekend.

Me and my friend stayed here for three days and we had a great experience. It’s like going back in time. A beautiful historic hotel. I love the fact that John Dillinger stayed in room 221. The rooms are very clean and have an antique vibe to them. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It’s in a very cool neighborhood right next to pride Square in downtown El Paso plus they offer discounts to local restaurants for staying there. We will definitely be back and fingers crossed that we can book room 221 next time. Thank you for a wonderful vacation

The hotel lobby and exterior are very inviting and capture the 1920 charm, however once inside there’s still some work to do. A lot of the amenities weren’t working and the self equipped kitchen was missing some essentials like kettle, coffee machine etc. The hotel is surrounded by lots of night clubs which is explained on their website and they give earplugs at reception, however in some rooms the noise and bass are so severe it was impossible to sleep. The staff however were super helpful and friendly. I even got upgraded to a room with less noise on my last day. They have made my stay in the hotel much more pleasant, thank you!

I’m amazed by the number of positive reviews. The hotel was filthy with burn marks, presumably from drug users, in the shower. We lifted up the mattress to check for bugs only to find a antique prayer card, rather creepy. We ended up entering the room, and it was so terrible that we left and found another hotel. Hilton Garden Inn down the street, a much better option. Don’t waste your money here.

Old but nice. It’s much better than a Knights Inn by the airport. It is 1 smidge more comfortable than sitting upright on a bus all night. If you’ve stayed in a U.S. hostel before and understand the concept of evaporative cooling, you know what to expect. But it is the reddest of red flags that the front desk actually points out (twice) that once paid, bookings are non-refundable. Do not walk past that red flag. DO NOT under any circumstances book a room here unless you are planning to be OUT until bar time or simply don’t like to sleep before 3 AM. The music starts at 9 sharp and drastically intensifies at midnight - it goes from your typical bass thumping to full on lyrical comprehension of a Lana del Rey/Bodies hit the floor mashup. Extra unfortunately for me, I actually need to *wake up* at 2am, so instead of a mildly uncomfortable night, I get zero sleep at all. I offer my gratitude that I only have to be here one night. The health department, the zoning board, or God himself would intervene and shut this place down. I am thoroughly convinced that the existence of this hotel/club juxtaposition is a curse upon the people of Texas, and those who have the misfortune of visiting Texas, surely brought on by all the human rights violations that Texas has managed to accomplish despite being conquered 6 times in recent history. The fact that the staff even offers Earplugs is hilarious. Earplugs do not and cannot and were never designed to block or even reduce the type of noise that comes from the bar/club next to this hotel.

Stay was relatively cheap compared to other nearby hotels only because I purchased a "bed" not a "room" full of bunks which can be shared with up to 3 other strangers. The bar next door will blast music until around 3 am but it's okay because the staff will provide you ear plugs lol. Don't really recommend unless you REALLY want a vintage vibe.

I truly fell in live with this place! Chris, the gentleman at the front desk, was super nice and friendly. Gave me concise directions to all the questions I had!!! His customer service talents are top of the line!!! I will definitely stay here again for that simple fact!!!

Has A Nightclub Of Some Sort Beside It Playing Loud Banging Music In It Until 3:30 AM. Couldn't Sleep Peacefully Through It. Also I Had My Car Towed From Here For Parking Out Front Of This Organization Saturday Night April 15, 2023 And I'm Not 🚫 Thrilled With That Either. On Top Of This, You Are Paying To Literally Rent A Bed From This Organization. Remember This When You Stay Here. Here's A Picture Of The Room With All The Bunk Beds Available For Rent In This Place With A $25 Deposit And $35 Per Night For 1 Bunk They're Nothing More Than Muts. #DontBeMuts

Its definitely an older property but I enjoyed seeing what an older hotel was set up like. My hostel room was tiny, but luckily I was the only one there! Everything was clean and the staff were very friendly/knowledgeable about the area. I was lucky to get parking right in front of the hotel. They also work with nearby restaurants/bars to offer guests specials.

Cool place, historic full of antiques! It takes you back in time, the rooms are clean and well maintained, can not complain at all about the time I spent at the Gardner, the people at the front desk were really helpful. You get discount in the bars and restaurants next-door. the food and night life was amazing if that's one thing you aim for. The price was great for the downtown area and I totally recommend it. You wont regret it, people was friendly, the place was charming and it is just a few blocks from Mexico which you can visit whit-out any trouble. For sure will be comming back!!

My wife and I found this place to be an excellent honeymoon location. We enjoyed the staff and the accommodations . We will definitely be going there again the next time we go to el paso.

I'm mid 50s and this is a place for the younger. The parking is not great as the parking garage closes at 7:00 pm and the lots around the area WILL TOW - there's a contract towing company we saw. The room was cool for the hot day in July but the air conditioner blew right on the bed - uncomfortable. The hotel is historic but nothing special pushed or added to the historical nature. Room had no fridge in it

Partner and I stayed here twice during the winter break and had a lovely time on both occasions. It's within walking distance of San Jacinto Plaza and a great many restaurants. WiFi and television both had excellent service. Staff was always friendly, and the hotel smells clean even though they were performing renovations. Will definitely make this charming hotel our go to for small romantic statcations.

I recently stayed at a hotel and unfortunately encountered a bed bug infestation. The room was visibly dirty and unkempt, which raised concerns about overall hygiene. The presence of bed bugs was not only uncomfortable, but also a clear sign of poor maintenance. I would strongly advise avoiding this hotel due to the lack of cleanliness and pest control.

Stayed here for 2 nights in a room with a shared bathroom. It was everything we needed - a very simple room, but clean, comfortable and spacious. The staff were all very nice and the hostel itself was beautiful. There is also a whole shared kitchen and games/tv room that looked great. It was a bit noisy, but nothing that a good pair of earplugs couldn't fix!

Really neat hotel with an historic flair. Perfect location to walk to anywhere downtown. Check in / check out employees were very friendly. My only complaint is that the bed and pillows were a bit less than comfortable, but I suppose that's subjective. It isn't the Hilton or Indigo, but the price for the location was more than fair. I stayed an a Thursday night and with the AC and ceiling fan on, heard no noise at all.

This place is amazing. The history, style and architecture of the hotel is unique and very well preserved. Give you the chance to be feel hosted as the mid-20th century, but with nowadays services as Wi-Fi among others.

The front desk is excellent and surpasses great customer service. The lobby also looks great for its 1920's theme. Rooms are basic and standard. I think they're clean enough. After flushing the toilet, the water ran all night.

I booked the room yesterday for 4 days. I came into town because I'm relocating and needed a place to stay while I arranged for a new residence. I arrived in town at 10 am. Check in isn't until 3pm. I went ahead and grabbed a bite to eat and then decided to go take care of my business early. I ended up getting everything concluded before 3 pm. I go back to the hotel, I haven't even checked in yet. I ask if I can be refunded since I haven't checked in. A manager is called. I am told I can't be refunded because there's less than 24 hours before my check in time. I say that's fine, can I be refunded for the other three days since it's well over 24 hours for those days. The manager then tells me no because I booked through a third party app. I didn't btw. I booked directly through their website. At that point I just walked away bc she was being extremely unhelpful. So yes I paid 431 dollars for a hotel room I never even checked into and was refused a refund for "reasons". I didn't even sit in the lobby at any time bc of the various males that were sitting there leering at every woman who walked through the door. They made the lobby very uncomfortable. If I could give negative stars for this experience I would.

I am a fan of historic hotels. My primary purpose coming to El Paso was to spend the night at this hotel. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The outside temperature yesterday was 101 degrees F, but my room was comfortable. The hotel's evaporative cooling system worked fine for me. The front desk staff was very helpful answering my questions and with recommendations on places to eat in the area.

My stay is so exciting and excellent hear 🥰! It's so down to earth and the staff makes you feel comfortable and completely at home.. I recommend everyone in El paso to give this place a try. Promise you won't regret it 🤪 no worries!

Everyone was very kind and the place was very clean. The rooms were spacious and very reasonably priced. Unfortunately we had some problems with loud music from the surrounding bars but earplugs were provided. We were in room 225 so if you have children or issues with loud noises I’m sure you could call the front desk and ask for a room away from ours. They had discounts for the surrounding restaurants and the neighborhood was very cool!

Unusual place in unique circumstances. Met lots of unusual people. I do like that it is involved in the community. Covid has influenced travel in the world too much, restricting travelers, that different issue though. I'll cover world travel elsewhere.

The only hostel in El Paso! Friendly staff at night and you get to meet travelers from all over the world! Had a great night's sleep!

Nice hotel from a historic perspective. It had all basic amenities but it was kind of dark but they try to keep it that way, Original. Only let down was the lack of parking. I parked on the street at the park meters but I had to wake up at 8 to deposit money for the extra 3 hours. Otherwise you'll have to park at an overnight paid location.

Gardner Hotel is the only fully functioning hostel and hotel in Downtown El Paso! If you’re backpacking or traveling on a budget, this place is for you. Up to 16 beds in one room for men and one for women, bunk beds, single beds, twin beds, and private rooms with king beds are available. There is a communal living/entertaining/laundry and dining space. A full kitchen is open to prepare your home-cooked meals. Coin laundry is available to keep your clothes clean before continuing on your travels. This hotel is conveniently located next to Pride Square in Downtown El Paso.

It was clean, safe and in a great location with friendly staff. Unfortunately the noise from the bars and other guests went on all night. There were no heat controls in our room which made it very hot and stuffy and the bed was hard and very uncomfortable. I could have wrapped my mind around it if it had been $50 but it was $120.

  • 1/5 Cristina 2 years ago on Google
I have never been in a too noisy hotel. It is impossible sleep due to the noise of the bars. I would never come back. Being honest the staff was great but if you are too close to a bar you must do something to deal with the noise and not only offering plugs because they are workless.

  • 5/5 Marisa G. 1 year ago on Google
Very pleasant. Happy with price booking direct. No issues with noise or room temperature. Quick check in, was glad to have a kitchen available and that they were happy to store my luggage for a few hours after check out.

Fantastic! Staff are all accommodating! We stayed for two nights and had a wonderful time! The beds are comfortable. Loved how the hotel is still in era, it's refreshing to see the history, loved the fact that John Dillinger stayed there. Looking out the window you can see the trolleys come thru!!!

The Hotel has an amazing classic feel. I loved the classic preservation, nice clean room and they have an amazing staff. I really enjoyed my stay, and you also get discounts at neighboring restaurants and bars. I would recommend at least a night's stay here if ever in El Paso. I hope #221 is always available for me.

Great tourist place to visit, it takes you back decades with it's simple but functional design, the rooms are relatively small compared to equally priced hotels, but they're not tiny, there's enough room. it can get a little hot if you're not used to el paso weather, but the friendly staff will gladly provide a fan on request. Also, parking is almost non existent, there's only a couple of spaces reserved in front of the hotel, more than likely you will have to search the surrounding streets. There are restaurants that serve great food and drinks and night clubs adjacent to the hotel. Which is a plus. This hotel is more dedicated for business, and for singles or couples without kids. Recommended.

A very special hotel with unique history and antiques. The rooms are beautiful in a very historic way. There are lots of wonderful restaurants downtown too. I absolutely enjoyed downtown El Paso.

I stayed in the hostel for guys, which consisted of two bunk beds next to each other and it was going well until I was woken up by one gentleman who arrived at 2:30AM. He proceeded to shine a light in my face angrily, yelled and swore how my bag was by his things and then threw the bag of the guest who was bunking above him across the room. I told him the bag was not mine and there was another person in the room (whose bag was where it should be) then he got on the phone and talked to another person about how angry he was. He then sat in his bed from 2:45AM and shined his light over my bed every couple minutes for a half hour and it felt like he was waiting for me to fall asleep, where if I opened my eyes, he held eye contact or looked at my bags. Needless to say, I felt profoundly uncomfortable and packed my bag and decided I would rather stay somewhere else. When I took my key downstairs at 3:20AM and reiterated I was concerned about the behaviour of one of the guests, the woman at the front desk laughed at me mockingly and then said she could give me another room if I paid her more money. This was the most uncomfortable experience I have ever had with regards to my personal safety in a hostel and it was laughed off by a staff when it should be handled incredibly seriously.

I would assume that this place is paying people for reviews because it always surprised me that it had over a four out of five on Google because the place is not a very good hotel first of all the rooms there where you share the bathroom down the hall the AC is in the main hallway and the only way to get into the room did they opening up a little trap door over the the door leading to your room and third some nights why you were there there is a club next door to this hotel that will blast out the entire hotel to the point where you can't sleep also inside it is very dirty it is very run down it is very nasty do yourself a favor find somebody better for the price

Ms. Debbie @ the front desk made me feel welcomed before I even arrived. She was a delight 😊, she shepherded me through the registration process on the phone, waited for me to arrive & made sure I had safe parking. In the future, I will stay @ the Hotel Gardner because of Ms. Debbie.
