I was walking Thursday afternoon downtown with my daughter and friend looking for a place to eat after our art museum visit. A gentleman working in front of the Plaza Hotel kindly suggested we try out Ambar restaurant. Glad we did! Beautiful atmosphere, accommodating waitress, and a delicious lunch special where you get a starter, an entree, & dessert. I got a salad, chicken with mashed potatoes, & chocolate cake. So delicious! Highly recommend. Great experience! Thanks for your suggestion Octavio.

Good ambiance. The staff is friendly. There is still some construction going on, otherwise I would have rated a 5 star. The food is professionally prepared. I rate the chef a 5 star. The wine list is short but found the proposed selections very well picked. I will definitely continue to visit frequently with my spouse. A beautiful historic place and an El Paso gem.

Lots of great food for those around me. I simply ordered a Ceasar salad with grilled chicken. Unfortunately I was told my chicken was dropped and I was served my salad...see picture for laughs on the alleged "salad"...they finally came out 10-12 minutes later with a new salad but at that point I had already eaten my "salad" minus the chicken of course. I was the last one to receive my meal. NOW, that is just my experience. Everyone else was served delicious looking food. The 2 stars is based off MY experience. The waiter did say he would remove my salad from my tab. Based on everyone else's experience this would be a great 4.5 star review, but this is based on my experience. Friendly atmosphere. At Check time, the waiter had a tough time getting the tickets right, even though we reviewed the ticket with him various times.

Presentation looks good but everything was bland and in dire need of salt. Apple crumble cheesecake was the best dish that night. Wouldn’t go back

This restaurant was recommended by a couple of our bar managers who are from El Paso so we had high expectations. Mostly recommended for their tequila selection. We made reservations and were impressed by the ambiance and decor. Our server was very friendly and had great knowledge of their house cocktails and tequila selection. We were delighted until we received our dinner. We ordered NY strips that were VERY expensive (I believe $55.00 per). We ordered medium rare. We received the entrees and could barely cut into the steaks. They were so over-cooked, gristly and fatty. We managed to get about 8 good bites and that was it. Very disappointing experience. Extremely over-priced for the quality. Hopefully the owners can help the kitchen reach a higher level of quality. I have read through all of the reviews and this seems to be a common theme of complaints.

Beautiful. Wonderful atmosphere. Delicious food. Absolutely would come again. The dessert was amazing and memorable. (Chocolate cake with strawberry ice cream) At the end of dinner, we were told that the rooftop was open to go up and enjoy the view. The heaters were definitely a nice welcome, and helped with the cold crisp February air.

This place was lovely. My boyfriend and I celebrated our anniversary and had a great experience. The host greeted us and made us feel welcomed. Our server Brian was very professional and friendly. He educated us about the menu as it was our first time. Would highly recommend.

Short rib had great flavor and was very tender. There were not enough chips for the guacamole but I assume we could have asked for more. We had a big party and none of us complained about our food. I would return

The location is beautiful! We went for Thanksgiving brunch. Upon checking in for reservation we paid. The brunch was suppose to be $65 per person (party of 4). Our total came to $330. The lady who took payment pointed out the suggested tip at bottom. We brought cash instead. The food was not fresh and did not meet our expectations besides dessert table. Service was lacking with the exception of female waitress. We then asked waitress price of meal. She said $65 a person. I told her maybe we were charged for 5. Waitress went and asked so after tax a tip was automatically added. This is shady especially considering lady that took payment mentioned adding a tip. The receipt even showed suggested tipping amounts. Really after adding a tip and not asking first?!?! I am a generous tipper when great service is received. We will not be back and warn others to review their check.

Great location downtown. Prices are a bit high for El Paso in my opinion. Went on a Thursday night and it was busy, so service was slower. Chicken and mushroom enchiladas weren't bad, maybe more needs more chicken than mushrooms. My buddy got the Ribeye, it was good but not $70 good, when you've had Perini's out in Buffalo Gap, TX.

Lovely restaurant in El Paso. Easy to find parking near the hotel. I’ve been 3 times when I visit. I believe their menu changes, but not sure how often. The food is delicious, and fresh. I am vegetarian and they have several options & servers are happy to ask the chef if they can offer something off menu. The actual location is perfect, right across the plaza theater and a few steps away from the plaza de Los lagartos. Decor is great inside as well. Overall a great place if you’re looking for something a little more upscale and authentic Mexican food.

The food was delicious and the atmosphere was so attractive even to the infant that was with us. The breakfast was exquisite. We only had vegetarian dishes.

Had a lovely dinner at this restaurant and totally recommend it. Bryan, our water, did a very very good job and was super nice. We were a group of 7 and had a lot of different food, and everything was really good!

The service wasn't as on point as we would have liked. A lot of time spent waiting to order. So drinks and food came out too far apart from each other. It was a busy night, so it was understandable. The food...the food was phenomenal. It was beyond delicious. Browsing through the Tequila menu is a must, ordered a shot of Don Julio Primavera...absolute heaven.

Very nice experience for a birthday party. This cake was absolutely delicious! It was chilled and had a coconut flavor, really great! Dinner was brazed beef and mashed potatoes, those were both delicious as well. Comfortable chairs, good service. We’ll definitely visit again.

Wow this place was beyond our expectations! The food and drinks were incredible. The food had good portions and was perfectly cooked. Absolutely fantastic strawberry margaritas! The service was wonderful. Bryan was attentive, polite and friendly and his recommendations were spot on! The building is beautifully restored and has such a unique ambiance. I would definitely recommend!

Although the prices are high, the Ambar is a very good quality restaurant. I ordered the guacamole appetizer and it comes with three salsas. One is a very mild sauce, two is a standard spicy salsa and three is a delicious habanero pepper salsa with a fair amount of fire. Because I spent some time up on the roof of the hotel and enjoyed a couple of delicious cocktails while watching the sun set over the city, I don't recall my entree. Hard to believe? True. The food service is excellent and the mystery of El Paso del Norte is there for anyone to experience.

Really great restaurant in downtown El Paso! The pork carnitas platter here was the best I've have ever had. It costs $48 for a shared platter but the serving size of the platter was very appropriate for the price. The seating areas are very classy and comfortable. I visited on a Saturday night and sat down in the bar area without waiting - bar is first come first serve. Best part of sitting at the bar is watching the bartenders light the rosemary on fire for the Negorini! They claim this bar has the largest tequila selection in the U.S if you are looking for options.

Holy cow the carnitas here are the best I have ever had. I was a little hesitant about paying $48 for a shared platter but the serving size of the platter was very appropriate for the price. The seating areas are very classy and comfortable and the bar is first come first serve. Best part of sitting at the bar is watching the bartenders light the rosemary on fire for the Negorini! I was told this bar has the largest tequila selection in the U.S if you are looking for options.

This restaurant is beautiful, very fancy but the food doesn’t live up the expectations, I ordered Coctel rojo and it was super salty, the portions are super small, we had a party of 15 and the food took well over an hour to come to our table, the guacamole was good, my fiancé asked for a $14 carne asada taco, he said it was delicious but it was a very small taco, for a taco we expected a way faster service, the waitress couldn’t handle all of us it was overwhelming for her, she definitely needed help, a plus for this visit and the reason why this review is not a one star is that Khalid was there and we were able to enjoy him singing, also we couldn’t bring our cake down from the hotel room, they said it it was against the rules but they end up letting us have the cake at the table.

Restaurant is beautiful , elegant and very clean. Service was on Par. Food presentation was also very nice. BUT.. the food was an absolute failure. Chile Verde soup tasted like a bowl of salt mixed with old ingredients. They need to get new Chef ,food was just a total failure. Got the Roasted Chicken. Again over seasoned. I hope visitors to El Paso dont think this is our unique and Authentic El Paso cuisine our city is known for.

This is a beautiful place. However, the food is a bit different and the prices for what you get are very high. The service was excellent and the drinks were very good. I would recommend Cafe Central or 1700 instead.
