Shady, shady, New Star! So long story, less long, 18% service charge applied to party of 3, didn't catch it so they got a $36 service fee/gratuity. I always appreciate when places pay you the courtesy of informing you that they plan to add a service charge. In this case they did not. It was not posted anywhere that I noticed. Plus I think it's intentional the way the itemized receipt is attached to the restaurants copy , you are less inclined to take it with you and really review. I mean we had a drink on our tab so the total seemed right 🤷🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️. Shame on us for trusting but not verifying. Anyway, I always tip in cash because as a previous service worker I appreciated the generous cash tips moreso than tips on cards. So I paid the tab signed the receipt and then I placed $25 gratuity in the billfold. I think $25 on a $65 tab is GREAT! Left New Star and sat in my car reconciling my and that's when I noticed that 18% service charge. Anyway, for this reason and because my stomach was a little upset after dining, I probably won't go back. I hope New Star takes this note and posts for the people.

New Star was excellent! 👌🏼 They have the best Egg Foo Young in the city! I hate to say it but this was the best service I've ever had at a Chinese restaurant! We ate for lunch and the prices were very reasonable! Lunch came with tea, egg drop soup, a huge egg roll, pork fried rice and Shrimp and Chicken Egg Foo Young, all for 7.99! They have hibachi and a sushi counter too but we've never had it. Also the bathroom was very clean and stylish, they even had a mouthwash dispenser! The food was so good, the service was good and the bathroom was so clean. Can't wait to go back! 😁💖👍🏼

Made reservations for dinner but I when I arrived I had to wait about 10-15 minutes.. Definitely worth the wait though! The food was delicious. No doubt my tofu & vegetables were amazing , while my family said they enjoyed their steak, shrimp, & drinks. First time eating hibachi and will surely come back!!!

First time trying this place and I was pleasantly surprised as I'm SO picky on hibachi! It was my niece's 8th graduation and we had a party 25 ppl 👀 They accommodated us with zero issue, the chefs were so kind and had so much fun with the kids, food was phenomenal and honestly can't say one bad thing about this place! Lunch specials were very affordable and still can't amount of food. ALSO looks are deceiving because when you walk in it looks small but it is actually pretty big

I found out about New Star while watching an episode of Chicago's Best. This place is always packed, and the turnover of food is on a massive scale. The food is always fresh, delicious, and made to order. They have an awesome hibachi grill, and the eggrolls are the best In the business. The service is stellar, and the martinis are spot on !!!

The food and the customer service was great. The bartender was awesome and very funny. I didn't get a chance to catch his name because he had left but ill be back for sure and let him know how great he did. Next time I go back am bringing my kids with.

Our family has been going to New Star for about 25 years! The food is great, nice seating, clean, and the staff is always helpful. The only drawback is parking. It's on North Avenue, so you sometimes have to park on the side streets.

This restaurant has been running for over 50 years now. They say back in the day, it was very small and they only had few tables. But now they have gone bigger. So we dined in here to taste their food. There was a 15 minutes queue on a weekday evening. So make a resevation if you wanna come here. They have hibachi dinner and a regular chinese ala carte. Hibachi was good but there was a 25 min wait. So we did the chinese. It was good. Would come back to try the hibachi.

I have ordered takeout from New Star many times, but today I finally got the chance to dine in. I decided to do the hibachi experience and got a hibachi steak dinner. It was an amazing experience and such a delicious meal! Our server was so engaging and fun. I love when they mess with the customers a bit! The food was so flavorful and plentiful for the price. They use such delicious seasonings and sauces! I got salad, soup, steak, noodles, chicken fried rice, vegetables, and even ice cream all for just about $30. It was a great deal especially for the incredible quality and experience!

New Star is one of the best Chinese restaurants in the CHI. I've had privilege of dining in and also utilizing their delivery service. When dining in the first thing you will notice is the portions. They give you plenty of food to eat....so make sure you're hungry. As far as the delivery go...once you phone in your order...it usually take around 45 mins to delivery. Not too shabby...it also depends on your area. Give em a try..you won't regret it. The dishes I rock with are listed below. The hibachi is by far the best.. and the drinks never disappoints. I didn't give 5 stars because Jinny the owner wouldn't seat us because my whole party wasn't there even though I was ordering for the late person. She said she wanted her to get the whole experience.. really! If you've seen one onion volcano you've seen them all.

The best Chinese food I had in a while! This will be our new spot. Food hot fresh, came out fast. Waiters so nice & it was a busy Sunday afternoon! 10/10. No complaints! The best egg rolls I ever had!!!!! U can do hibachi style in the back, or restaurant style at the front. Parking is the only thing. You right park on the street or behind the building. It will be a bit of a struggle if it’s busy. Other than that, it was a great experience.

Hands down, this the best Hibachi place I've been to! And I've been to them all. The portions are generous and the price is way less then Ron of Japan and the others. Seating at the table is comfortable, the place is clean and they still do a little show for you. Take a look at the monster Scallops! My wife had the Salmon.

Went there for hibachi for Saturday lunch. Was able to accommodate our party of 10 immediately without any reservation requirements. We had a slew of hibachi orders (steak, shrimp, chicken, scallops) and most were good but can be more tasty. The fried noodles were great. Service was great. Priced very reasonably. Kids got a free toy!

Tonight,Tuesday,10-5-21 after 7:00 pm I had my son pick up my order of food for my dinner. I live 10 minutes by car from Néw Star restaurant. when I opened my food only the large vegetable delight was hot and still steaming. The vegetable egg rolls were cold and not freshly made. The brown rice was cool and not hot. The almond cookies were not fresh. This is the second time that I have ordered my dinner from New Star Chinese restaurant and the order was very disappointing. Yet if I get my food early in the daytime my order is prepared correctly. For me there’s just no excuse for the evening and night cooks to send out cold food or for the front desk staff to pack old stale almond cookies to anyone and especially to a 70 yr old senior citizen. This is just unacceptable for me and it’s time for me to look for my evening meals elsewhere.

It is UNREAL how delicious the hibachi at this restaurant is. It’s possible that this is my favorite restaurant I’ve ever been to. The chicken fried rice is THE BEST thing ever it’s one of the best food items I’ve ever consumed. The noodles are amazing, along with everything else. The staff are always so kind and friendly, too. Definitely my favorite, I’d wait hours to eat here!!

Pleasantly surprised... I know this place has been here a minute and I've seen the pictures. I kept putting it off for another day but we walked in here for a quick lunch bite and was pretty impressed with everything. The service was spot on and the food was delicious!! My little man received a little toy to keep him busy while I ate and complementary tea and wonton chips were provided. We ordered the the family style for two and it was more than enough food with enough leftovers!! We will come back with the rest of the family. Great price! Great food! Great service!!

Not too pricey for the amount of food they give.. hibachi waiter was very delightful even though he kept begging for a tip . The atmosphere was pleasant and sharing our table with complete strangers was not an issue. The food was very flavorful and the drinks were not weak so it was a nice experience for 2 people about a 126$ price tag

This was the Chicago Asian food I've missed so much since moving to Atlanta. There was an impressive variety of options on the menu, however, I had to order what I long for in other cities that don't quite get it right which was the shrimp egg foo young and shrimp fried rice. My son ordered the chicken teriyaki and was happy with the dish. The servings were substantial and made great leftovers the next day. Our server was kind, friendly, and attentive. New Star is definitely on my list to try again the next time I'm in town.

I will go again, it was fun. I had the scallops, some people in my party had steak. It was all good, lots of food. Each of us had a side of fried rice, salad, soup, and noodles. Jose was excellent, delightful, and entertaining. I had leftovers to feed my husband and me the next day, however, I left them next door when I went for an after-dinner drink with my son. Bummed

Had their spicy tuna roll, mango chicken and walnut shrimp. The walnut shrimp and spicy tuna roll was great, wasn't a fan of the mango chicken. Would like to come back and try their other menu items.

Ordered take out. The taste was ok.. the staff was kinda rude. But when I went to pick it up the place looked cute. But unfortunately I’m writing this review while hugging the toilet bowl.

We have been coming to New star for a decade. They just keep improving more and more. The food is always fresh and delicious. Since covid hit they even put your food in a small bag to keep it nice and hot for take out. I usually get the orange and sesame chicken. They put a good amount of sauce and it taste good. The chicken is good quality it don’t taste nasty or chewy like some Chinese restaurants. The chicken fried rice and egg rolls are amazing too.

I had the hibachi chicken (lunch special) and it was amazing! The special comes with a soup, salad, chicken fried rice, noodles, grilled chicken with mushrooms and grilled veggies. All that for less than $13. As an appetizer, I had spicy garlicky edamame, yum. This is my 3rd time there, I highly recommend going.

Food is decent but really mad that they don't have a better system for operating during Covid. Everyone waiting to pick up food or be seated is jammed into a small area. Impossible to socially distance. Why not have people wait in their cars and call when food or table is ready???

I come to this place pretty often but decided I was going to place an order for pick up today. I asked about one of their lunch items and the girl on the phone told me to go on the menu, I told her I was unable to at the moment and just wanted to see if they had the specific sushi roll.. she again told me to go look at the menu. Just rude, won’t be eating here again.

Many dishes to choose!

I just discovered this place and IMO its a place to keep ordering from. In my own opinion the Lomein is good. Also the Sesame Chicken and shrimp fried rice. The way they deliver the order is in a thermo bag. No other place that I know of is doing ths great idea. Anyway thank goodness for this place. I hope to try a lot more dishes this 2021.

Terrible food, terrible service. Lost orders, but yet they still manage to charge our credit card. I’ve given this place several second chances, but get let down every time. Would not recommend.
