This place is amazing! The Danube is the second-longest river in Europe, after the Volga in Russia. It flows through much of Central and Southeastern Europe, from the Black Forest into the Black Sea. Right next to it there's a restaurant that I highly recommend to stop by and have a delicious meal.

This place is special to me. The source of Europe's longest river. I was born in Transylvania, a region in Romania, the country where the Danube flows into the Black Sea. From the Black Forest to the mouth of the Black Sea, the Danube flows through 7 European countries and covers a distance of over 2,800km.

The access road is very narrow, There is a small, free parking lot and some seating options if you want to rest and have hiked to the spring. There is also a nearby bus connection

The Danube rises here 😊 a nice place to visit. Can be reached by car or can also be done as a nice hike.

One of the possible sources of the Danube. Specifically, this is the source of the Breg with the god Dona-Vis as the namesake for the Danube. Depending on where you park (at the inn), the source is 20 meters away... otherwise at the hiking car park approx. 200 meters. Definitely worth a visit.

Small source (origin of the Danube) with a very nice atmosphere around it. Children's playground and a very pleasant restaurant to fortify yourself is afterwards. You can go hiking very nicely and the Günther Felsen is also in the immediate vicinity.

As a child, I'd lived 18 years in Rousse/Bulgaria and was waiting for this destination. It didn't dissapoint. The place is magnificent. Not only the source but the whole region itself. A dream come true.

The Bregquelle is a great sight to see if you are in the area. I wasn't too impressed with pictures I had seen of it on Google maps (I thought it looked like quite a dingy statue and sketchy area), but came to the area mostly to see Gunterfelsen and stopped here afterwards. It is actually quite charming, pretty, and interesting. It is a small spring and pool of water that is said to be the source of the Danube river, with a statue of a large naked man (some mythological water god) resting on top of the spring. There are signs in multiple languages, including English, explaining the historical significance of the sight. It was quite crowded on the Sunday afternoon I was there, and it is a couple minutes walk DOWN a hill behind the Hohengasthaus past the Spielplatz, but well worth the short walk even with small children if you're there anyway - a stroller would be ok if you don't mind pushing it back up the hill. My kids played in the stream for several minutes before we had to leave. It's a great place to bring a snack to enjoy on one of the benches, though I don't remember there being a picnic table. The area is mostly shaded, from what I recall.

Would be better to see in the summer but still awesome to see the source of the longest river in Europe!

Very pretty place. Easy access on asphalt road from Furtwangen or Schonwald. Hiking trails available. Worth visiting if you are around.

Nice little place, very easy to reach (parking is 50m away). Not very known but beautiful nonetheless. There isn’t much possibility to start hikes from here, though.

A bright, light, meaningful place. It's not just a trickle. It's kind of a must to see this source of the Danube when you're nearby. Very nicely prepared. And a nice playground.

It is also the source of the Danube, as the Breg is the longest source river of the Danube!!!

A bit poor for the so-called source of the Danube. It's pretty to see how this tiny trickle bubbles out of the ground...the bigger attraction is certainly the inn that's located there...

Kaum vorstellbar, das aus diesen kleinen Rinnsal, ein gewaltiger Strom wird. Nach der Wolga mit großen Abstand der längste und Wasserreichste Fluß Europas.

A nice and relaxing place to visit and to learn more about one of the springs of Danube River, one of them being considered as the main as in this place. You can have a drink or meal at the restaurant nearby. There's a free parking but availability depends on the affluence.

for those who Danube means something, like for us, leaving on its shore 2.000+ km away from the spring, it’s great to see where such a big river starts from. the place is clean, peaceful, fresh air, well organized. probably wk-end is to be avoided.

Beeindruckend: die Quelle des größten abendländischen Flusses braucht zu haben, der immerhin durch 8 Länder fließt! Die Figur des Gottes markiert mächtig die Quelle...

Just a small monument with some signals with information. Besides being able to say you were at the Source of the Danube, I wouldn't go if it was my only purpose. There are hikes around and a ski resort, so this would be a nice complement to that but not a main destination.

Facilities and restaurant is working, road is 1 lane and can be challenging sometimes. Nice quiet place

Loved how it was organized, the directions were clear and it was a lifelong dream of mine to see the source of the Danube (although somewhat disputed)

Very, very crowded place. We went in a Sunday and it was opened only one restaurant and was full. The place is nice, there are enough parking spots, there are tracking trails. The last 2km of road are on a very narrow path, drive carefully.

One of the starting points of Europe‘s second largest River Danube heading through many countries into the Black Sea. It is situated directly at the edge of the Europe water shed. A few Kilometers northerly the waters are running towards the river Rhine and going into the North Sea.

We went there by car, but if you prefer hiking or walking you can start from the city, Furtwangen. You can eat and drink at Donauquelle restaurant or just take a good coffee there.

There is a poor connection of the internet. The staff don't clean the room very well and don't change the towels and sheets per a week. The breakfast is satisfied!

Just a nice place and nothing more. Too much hype around it

Magical astonishing place. It's incredible that the huge Danube river starts from such a small little place. The amazing wonders of nature!

Knowing where the Danube begins was incredible. And the scenery on the way was beautiful. Very recommended!

The source of the Breg river is the source of Danube, and has been protected as a natural monument since 1957
