Let me start by commending their super friendly staff and well-appointed accommodation, and the fact that our room was upgraded.  Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about our dining experience, and to say the least, was extremely disappointed.  I booked our accommodation with dinner and breakfast more than three weeks in advance directly with the reception at Sweetfontein.  Dinner was charged at R 220.00 per person and breakfast at R 130.00 per person.  On our arrival at Sweetfontein we were given the options of lamb chops or beef rump for dinner, nothing about their famed lamb shank or leg of lamb, so we chose the lamb chops.  Dinner was served with 3 x lamb chops, a dollop of mashed potatoes, and some sweet carrots.  For dessert we were offered a brandy tart and ice cream, just to be informed a couple of minutes later that they ran out of brandy tart but could offer us ice cream and chocolate sauce.  We were served three small scoops of ice cream and a bottle of Pick & Pay/Checkers chocolate sauce.  The whole dining experience was OK at best and really nothing to get excited about.  For breakfast, seeing that we paid R 130.00 per person, I chose their breakfast waffle with bananas and berries @ R 80.00 fruit juice @ R 25.00, and a coffee @ R 35.00.  My wife had the muesli and yogurt with fresh fruit @ R 85.00 fruit juice @ R 25.00 and a coffee @ R 35.00.  My waffle arrived with the equivalent of about half a banana and zero berries, I was informed that they ran out of berries.  The fresh fruit in my wife’s breakfast consisted of 6 x grapes and 3 x slices of orange.  The worst however was when we checked out and were informed that we had to pay extra for the evening's dessert @ R 65.00 per person as well as for the fruit juice and coffee we had at breakfast.  What did I pay R 130.00 per person for breakfast – basically a dry breakfast waffle and some muesli and yogurt.  I feel their prices for meals are exuberant and you pay a hell of a lot of money for something very mediocre.  Will I make use of this venue in the future, or recommend it to someone else – unfortunately not!!!

If you are traveling and happen to be in that area Sweetfontein is certainly the best place to stay over. It is located outside of town and there's no noise from trucks or traffic, serene stunning environment with lovely staff and delicious food! Gorgeous scenery puts the cherry on top.

Overall nice experience, beautiful venue and gorgeous rooms. Scenery is very pretty, looking out on the grass plains and the most beautiful sunrises. Staff was very helpful and quickly helped us out on arrival.

It felt like we were in the middle of no where, it was wonderful. Peaceful and quite, a perfect stop over. The food was very good and the rooms were all very well finished. We will definitely be back.

Must visit, incredibly beautiful. Rent out the whole manor house and stay for a weekend. Fabulous decor, good food, friendly staff. Perfect stay-over on way to Cape Town and back.

Interior decorating done with delightful charm in the wondrous Karoo make you feel at home and luxuriously spoiled. The lamb chops were perfect, the wine excellent and the friendly staff professional and utterly hospitable. A gem not to be missed. Christa and Wouter Thom

I have to change my review, we went to another wedding at this venue and this time we stayed at the venue. Horrible experience. We had to share a bathroom that was not properly cleaned. The rooms cost to much for what you get and you can't even eat there with the crazy food prices during the day. Money got stolen out of our room that could not lock because there was no lock on the door. We did tell the venue, but they couldn't care less. Will not recommend this venue to anyone to stay over.

I had an amazing experience at this venue, a wedding weekend. With tours, horse riding, spa, bicycle rides and a pool almost everywhere its set up to be a good weekend. Only let down was the amount of bicycles available for hire, and the condition of those bicycles.. The venue's bar was extremely expensive. But in as sense I understand. If the budget allows it, I would recommend this venue.

Omg, Sweetfontein is absolutely grand, exquisitely decorated and tastefully laid out. And that is only the rooms, the bar is incredible and dining here is a treat. The staff are like family and genuinely care for every weary visitor. They were setting up for a wedding and it was looking like something out of a vogue magazine, very clever decorators using the environment sustainably. Well done to to you all this Lodge should be awarded a Gold for its ingenuity and taste.

Wedding was lovely, the snacks/nibbles where lovely, dinner for the wedding was very bland.BIG WARNING ⚠️ if you are not staying at the venue don't bother going. The accommodation in the surrounding area is very unpleasant and you have to drive on very bad roads. De arr is a very run down town we where there on a Friday and Saturday night and all we could hear where cars doing burn outs and drunks on the street. Just don't bother driving all the way there for a sleepless night!!

I was absolutely thrilled when I was able to reserve a room after Christmas as I'd been following Sweetfontein for a while. My fiancé and I were excited to splurge on ourselves a bit. However and very sadly, the reality did not meet the expectation. There were several housekeeping and maintenance issues throughout the lodge which detracted from the overall experience. Our King executive family room was not boutique lodge standard. No hair dryer in the room, lock on our room door did not lock on the inside and was poorly fitted, numerous spiders and cobwebs in our room and bed. Wooden gate into the manor area was dilapidated and could not latch properly. Several issues on the main veranda observed too. Dinner and breakfast not good value for money. Overall, very expensive and not worth the price paid @ R3100 excl dinner and breakfast. On a positive note, service was good though and the waiters friendly and attentive. Location is stunning and the decor mind-blowing.

Sweetfontein is the most awesome Karoo experience you can imagine. Beautiful settings. Sipping champagne and watching the sunset is priceless. Staff are the most friendly and awesome people you can imagine. Dint miss the opportunity to go there...

It was dirty, disgusting for the price you had to pay, Price for what you get is way overpriced !!! and not at all value for money Dinner was R220.00 per head and what a poor tasteless meal for the price and then you were offered dessert at an additional price, taps in bathroom did not work properly. Towels were not white and very hard. Water in fridge was not in sealed bottles, but merely poured into little glass containers. We were never notified of the load shedding times and that was also very unpleasant The outside areas tables, chairs, at the lapas as well as verandahs in front of the rooms and around the pool were filthy, this is very poor for December 2022 Holidays At least the staff were very friendly and efficient, but that does not change an AWEFUL Stay and we will never return, and we will never refer this place to anyone!!!!!!! WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT

Well situated halfway between Capetown & Jhb. Very nice venue with friendly staff. Views, sunsets & sunrise that only can be enjoyed in the Karoo.
