The British roast dinner experience, provided by a big corporation. This means you won't get exceptional food or devine surroundings, but you will get very good value for money in a comfortable pub. The giant Yorkshire and the amount of meat served are rationed to a reasonable amount, but you can have as much potatoes (mash, three types of roast) and veg as you want, all quite tasty. Ladle on as many sauces, including apple and cranberry, as you need. As this is a carvery, there is no wait to be served, just a short queue. The Toby phone app worked well, letting me pay and tip in my own time so I could leave whenever I wanted. The Buckhurst Hill Toby (formerly the Bald Faced Stag) was an excellent venue in pleasant surroundings, with a large car park that was free if you logged your registration when you arrive.

Had a warm welcome and served by Caroline who was very interactive with customers she was very helpful! Thanks to ciaran the turkey was beautiful and juicy. Recommended a visit for comfort food!

We had a lovely meal here. The food was delicious. Nice chats and great service. Recommended! Annmarie was our server and we were well looked after!

Great place, great service, all staff was very nice, polite and very, very helpful. Can't describe how food was delicious but would recommend you go to try for yourselves... it would be be experience well worth it. I added photos but will also add them again now.. its just amazing.

Surprisingly good carvery. Excellent service from Karen who treated us very well and took care of all our needs. And to add to that fantastic value for money.

I came for dinner with my partner and 2 year old who was a bit grizzly. We were served by Anne-Marie who went above and beyond to make sure that my daughter was happy. She checked on her even though she was clearly very busy with other tables and even bought a teddy bear over for her to play with! It made our experience much more enjoyable. Definitely a good place to go with children. Thank you Anne-Marie!

I booked a party of 30 yesterday for my wife's birthday. It was brilliant. We were allocated the back right corner which was perfect and quite private. My friend was allowed to come early and decorate the tables. The waitress who looked after us was really friendly and helpful. The carvery itself was probably the best food we have ever had at a Toby (and we have been to many!!).  The man who served us at the carvery was great. We were left undisturbed at the tables for 4 hours so were able to make the most of the opportunity.

Carvery meats were cold ( 12.30 ). Chef serving was surly. Visited for roast lamb. Just a bone left, asked if more was being served but told all was there. Chef semi scraped meat from bone for my portion ( poor). My guests had turkey and beef both obviously from previous session and cold. Our waiter was pleasant and efficient. Suggest you buy in boned and rolled lamb - easier to serve? Often lunch at various Toby Carvery, not a pleasant experience here - sorry.

Had a nice warm welcome and showed to our table. The service was appalling, our server (Abby) Was Not attentive had to call her to take our drink order,meal order and to take our dessert which is not good enough. I know it was busy but not acceptable for poor inadequate service ! Our server didn’t give a good service and was only attentive to certain tables in the area. Not acceptable at all. The food was ok the roast potatoes were overdone that they were burnt and rock hard, did say this to the chef but he didn’t seem that bothered! Asked for water for the table never got this, asked for extra hot latte got a warm bordering on cold did return this got another one which was a bit better but not extra hot as requested. Not the service I was expecting.

Had a nice family meal here this evening. Our server Kristina was very friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our service. The food was tasty. It would have been 5☆ all round if the little attention to details like cleaner/like-new menus, not worn cushions, the food service area being a bit clearer etc were addressed, but all round would go back. The atmosphere in the restaurant was nice and the food and drinks are good value for money especially with the offer in the app.

Had the pleasure of eating at this carvery this afternoon. The food was delicious (the carvery was done by Ciaran) and the service was even better Kristina was so accommodating and helpful. She brought a great atmosphere to the place and was so friendly, she made our visit. Would highly recommend a Sunday roast here and I will be back :)

Had a lovely lunch at the recently refurbished pub. Food was well cooked, hot and tasty. Service was quick, polite and attentive. Atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Pub quickly filled up with loads of people the day I went, so book early if your not local.

Caroline is a friendly and welcoming member of the waiting staff. She is very attentive, personable and came back and checked we were ok several times including asking if we had an allergies. Great experience and food, and I’m a local resident and we’ll come back.

Seems like a fantastic team all happy and smiling laughing and joking with each other, very positive vibe. Only had coffee this time as I missed breakfast but I'll be back in a week or so early!

We had a lovely day. They seemed understaffed and had to wait awhile to be served at our table but when we were staff were lovely and polite. Especially a lady named Michelle. She was serving everyone but was so patient and nice.

Not sure if my review published as my reception cut out so here I go again: 2 July 2023. Server: Kristina. Carver: Ciaran. A fantastic place. We travelled from another part of London today (2nd July) meet family here and the staff were instantly friendly and welcoming, accommodating our various requests and needs with a smile. It makes such a change when you have intelligent staff with a friendly attitude these days, as in most places you're lucky if you aren't treated with contempt by staff! We had Kristina as our server who was great; very attentive and warm. We had 3 children aged 4 and under, plus two older family members in their 70s, and everyone felt well catered for. The kids' nuggets came out super quick, which was a godsend, and the roasts were amazing! We got there at 12 noon for Sunday lunch, which was good as it beat the queues. Lovely interior; well (and newly?) decorated, comfy, spacious, clean and air conditioned. All in all, very happy with our visit and we'd return.

Had a lovely meal at Buckhurst Hill restaurant today. Staff amazingly helpful with my disabled mum, making sure she was comfortable and Karen the waitress moved the chair & table so she could get in and out with ease. Paul the carver gave generous portions of meat, all the food was hot and delicious

Very enjoyable experience - total contrast to my wife's visit to another Toby just before Christmas (which hopefully is still being investigated!). Food of good quality, decent sized portions of meat and plentiful veg. Only drawback was the shortage of waiting staff although even then our waitress performed valiantly to ensure that any delays were kept to a minimum.

Amazing carvery selection and value for money (£10.49 for Saturday carvery)! Good selection of desserts and chocolate fudge cake is a favourite. Quick service too Quality of the food is not the best you can get (meats a bit dry and veges just steamed), however for the price and selection, it’s totally worth it, and pretty decent.

This place was super busy. The carver mixed utensils so used the lamb one to pick up the sausages. And the other carver used the turkey one to shift the pork out of the way. I asked them to change the utensils which they did without fuss. The lamb they served me was dry and inedible, the queue was too long to go and complain. Servers at the table were really lovely and attentive though..

We were served by Karen. Karen always treats us well. Her service is first class and she will go above and beyond to make sure you meal is perfect. The food was lovely. I have noticed that you serve less slices of meat now. Add a few more please

A lunchtime reunion of 14 was well looked after. A seating area was reserved for us to chat, before sitting down to lunch. It's a carvery! So you get roast meats and veg! Vegetarian was available, but probably not their speciality. The food was very tasty, with unlimited top-up veg if you're still hungry. A good selection of desserts were on offer, which were large! Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Thanks for a great lunch!

I was sent a birthday £10 off voucher. I booked a lunch table for two at Toby Buckhurst Hill. On arrival no-one showed us to the table. Waitress friendly but took ages to appear for our drinks order. I explained & showed her my code. The person carving the meat was the most miserable person I’ve met for ages. He needs a good dose of happy pills. Sullen man. The meal was okay, not hot. Had to call for attention to order from the dessert menu. Waited ages then to receive it. Then had to call again for coffee and got the bill at the same time thinking we’d be there until the evening as service was incredibly slow. No attentiveness whatsoever, The bill was wrong as in my opinion we was overcharged as “the voucher is invalid as you ordered the weekday set menu”. I was told. Apparently this menu is seen as a promotional deal so my birthday £10 off could not be used. Seriously. A menu is a menu as far as I’m concerned. A £10 birthday voucher should have been offered off our entire £30+ final bill. Rip off and the slow service will stop me ever going to this venue again. Very disappointing to be treated like this on my birthday. Thanks fir nothing Toby Carvery Buckhurst Hill.

With the budget, and my expectations, I thought it was excellent. The meat was adequate in quantity, and tasty. Perhaps, if not busy, the carver could offer to remove the big chunks of fat around the edge before plating it? The potatoes were lovely; it would help if there was some explanation of the difference between the three types of roast potatoes offered - I enjoyed them all. The vegetables were great, especially the leek vegetable mix, although the carrots were only average. Compliments to the chef. I had little staff interaction as I booked and paid using the App, which worked well, although my requested glass of tap water arrived swiftly.

Been staying away for work, was in a different location the previous week which also had a Toby. However, it was awful, run down and empty, stayed next to this one and it’s completely opposite. On a Monday night it was packed! Which is always a good sign, gave it a second chance and was pleasantly surprised. Really good value for money, and the service is brilliant! Highly recommend for a value for money dinner.

Super friendly staff, attentive when sitting down waiting to order drinks, with a smile which is lovely. The food was plentiful & cooked so well. Top chefs !! Everywhere is clean & tidy, certainly no complaints from our gathering of 8. All staff friendly & helpful. There's lots of parking & I think they're putting more spaces around the grounds to cater for more customers. Plenty of disabled parking too & right by the entrance which was helpful for our elderly disabled uncle. Thank you Toby Carvery.

Loved having Mother's Day here. The food is always good. Michelle was a fabulous Waitress too! Would definitely recommend
