Hidden gem of Mainz! I have been outside in the church cloistered courtyard, which is relatively small but very beautiful and picturesque, many times, however this was my first time inside the church and I was really impressed. I had no idea there was such a beautiful church in Mainz! This place is known for its unique stained-glass windows in luminous blue that were created by Marc Chagall. The light coming through the windows was absolutely stunning and created an almost unreal ambience, I felt like being under water. I have never seen such beautiful lighting in any church I have visited (visited mid-day with clear skies, so nothing was blocking the sun beams to enter the church). I also enjoyed the beautiful modern Organs near the chancel with the altar. There is a little gift shop inside, where you can buy souvenirs like postcards, books and magnets mainly with the blue window theme. Church is wheel-chair accessible and there is no entrance fee. Totally recommend to visit this church as pictures don't really do justice, you must see it with your own eyes to have the full experience. Visited in May 2022.

Lovely church. The blue windows are a one time church experience. I've never seen such beautiful windows and color in any church. The photos doesn't show the beauty though. I tried my best to take realistic photos but it wasn't possible..

Saint Stefan’s church in Mainz is one of the most beautiful historical buildings you can find. If you visit mines you have to make sure to go inside this church. There is no entry fee and once you go inside you will see beautiful blue windows which were created by the very famous Chagall artist. The Organ is also brand new and modern and was created after the church raised donations for it. Once you walk through the church you go towards the back and there is a small walkway leading to additional rooms and a courtyard. What are the courtyard once you leave the church through the back you walk behind the church and there’s a viewpoint where you can see Mainz from high up there is also a bench where you can sit there. I recommend you look up the opening hours before going because it would be a shame to miss the artwork inside.

This beautiful church, it might look simple from outside but inside it's very beautiful, decorated with blue glass windows. It's recommended to visit in Mainz.

The guided tour of the church was very good. The tour guide was a member of the parish council and did a great job explaining the history and meaning of the famous Chagall windows. We were an international group and impressed by the guide's excellent English. I also recommend visiting the cloistered courtyard behind the church. It is a true gem and leads to a beautiful little chapel.

The inside of the church is so adorable, esp. with the Chagall windows. Of course, inside is so solemn, it is a lovely place to meditate

One of the most beautiful churches I've ever been into, the Marc Chagall windows have to be seen in daylight... The church itself sits up on top of a bluff overlooking all of downtown mines as well as the Mainzer Dom, a must see cathedral in downtown, but St. Stephen's is much more than a place of worship. Impressionist art lovers unite...

Beautiful, modern church with a unique organ whose design is a perfect complement, to its famous windows.

Beautiful early 10th century Church with courtyard. The real attraction are the Chagal windows, a fantastic deep cool blue in colour which goes back to post war Germany and is one of the only examples.

The blue Chagall-windows are amazing and give the whole place an almost unreal feeling. It's really cool (but make sure to go on a bright and sunny day).

There're many Stained glass of Chagall. So impressive and so calm place, easy to get there from Dom on foot. The garden also beautiful!! It's free, so I bought some post cards as donation.

It is, of course, distinguished for Chagall’s dreamy blue windows. Chagall, however, never ever set foot here. The reason we all know.

Beautiful scenery and located in the city of Mainz you’ll find the St. Stefanuschurch. This church has magnificent windows made by the famous painter Marc Chagall. Really worth visiting when in the area of Mainz!

The Marc Chagall stained glass is beautiful. Parking is very limited and built for tiny cars.

The ethereal blue light from the Chagall windows bathe the whole interior in a breathtaking but calm light. Worth the visit
