The owners are obviously racist & nobody should support this business. Preto is pretty much the N word in Portuguese. It has been brought to their attention & they refuse to change it. They even have blacks depicted as servants on their wall with black skin & ridiculously big lips

Totally disappointed with this experience. We sat on the patio which was filthy from the floors to the tables. Service was mediocre. It's like they were doing us a favour by attending us. Chocolate cake tasted like cardboard. The only plus was the " travesseiro" which was tasty and fresh but you can find better. There are far better establishments in Sintra where staff is much more happy in serving customers. Would definitely not recommend

Ring the chimes and chime the bells. You just found a place that should be a must on any Sintra list. What makes this place so special? you are asking correctly. On one hand it is an old establishment, a typical traditional Portuguese cafeteria: lots of delicious pastries, strong bitter espresso, old fashioned design, vegetable soup and strong local vibe. Locals visit this place regularly. On the other hand: the welcoming and prompt English speaking service, the crazy good salads (do not miss the salads!), the wraps and burgers, makes this place one of the best in the region. The place has lots of parking but be careful the road is narrow and busy going to and from old sintra. You must visit this place. I added a picture of the chicken (“frango”) salad. My favorite. If you come at lunch time prepare to have to wait for a table.

RACIST PLACE: STAY AWAY!!!! As a global society, we have made strides towards creating a more inclusive and respectful world. It is disheartening when an establishment such as "Casa do Preto" blatantly disregards the importance of this progress, opting instead to employ an offensive term for its moniker, a term that is likely to offend many, but especially those of African descent and Black Portuguese. Upon first seeing the name, I found it shocking that any business, especially in this day and age, would choose a name so steeply immersed in racial insensitivity. Given that names are the first impression one gets of an establishment, this is not only in poor taste but reflects a lack of understanding and respect for diverse cultures. In visiting the restaurant, I hoped to find that the owners had somehow rectified this unfortunate choice of name by creating an atmosphere that fosters understanding and embraces diversity. However, to my disappointment, this was not the case. Instead, the restaurant, in its ambience and decor, continued to reflect the ignorance indicated by its name. It's crucial to stress that food, an essential part of culture, has the potential to unify and educate. It is, therefore, a missed opportunity when an eatery opts to alienate certain patrons rather than inviting them into a space of shared enjoyment and mutual respect. To any potential patrons reading this, I strongly urge you to consider the impact of supporting a business that so clearly lacks the basic understanding of respect and inclusivity in its operations. It's not just about food, it's about principle. In this era, we should be promoting businesses that reflect the inclusivity and acceptance we aspire to see in the world. In conclusion, "Casa do Preto" leaves a bitter taste, not from its cuisine, but from its palpable disregard for racial sensitivity. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this establishment to anyone. It is my hope that the owners reconsider their branding and take a hard look at the impact it has on potential customers and the wider community. Until then, there are countless other establishments that celebrate diversity and inclusivity with not only their names but also their service, food, and overall ambiance. Seek them out. They deserve our patronage.

Absolutely wonderful local gem! Had some lovely savoury pastries together with some local sweet natas. The coffee was also delicious and their orange juice is as fresh as Atlantic air!

Our tour guide picked up “Travesseiros Tradicional” for us here as a sweet treat. Sooo yummy! Definitely recommend. I will be back to actually hang out in the cafe one day.

The pastries here are really good, all of them. However, this is the home of the local traditional pastry, queijadas de Sintra. A cookie sized pastry made with cheese, my personal favourite. They sell them in packets of 6. The rest of the food is great too. The service was a little slow this morning, but they were extremely busy.

Tradicional artesanal portuguese bakery. Most of the cakes aren't coming out of a "plastic bag". The quality it's really well present there. A must for any sweet tooth.

We decided to go for afternoon cake in Bank Holiday and had just a short wait for a table to enjoy goodies. Lovely choice of cakes and famous pastries , including mini options and all the usual tostas , torrados you can expect. Take away option and gift packages to take away. Lovely Treat

Excellent coffee (cappuccino) and ham & cheese croissants! This bakery (in business for over 90 years) is first-rate in food, environment, and service. Tables inside and outside so you can enjoy the Portuguese bom dia in all weather.

We tried Sintra-born Queijada and Travesseiros pastries here. Service is kind and friendly. Lots of locals queueing up for take away pastry.

I have known that his café for many years! It's always welcoming, the food is always fresh and the owner and staff are the best. There is parking in and outdoor seating. If you haven't been yet. Go! It's in Sao Pedro de Sintra.

OMG yum. The service was unbelievable, the food amazing and served in generous portions. Very child friendly. Healthy options available. The traditional sweets are also available and keep for quite a while.
