RACIST
PLACE:
STAY
AWAY!!!!
As
a
global
society,
we
have
made
strides
towards
creating
a
more
inclusive
and
respectful
world.
It
is
disheartening
when
an
establishment
such
as
"Casa
do
Preto"
blatantly
disregards
the
importance
of
this
progress,
opting
instead
to
employ
an
offensive
term
for
its
moniker,
a
term
that
is
likely
to
offend
many,
but
especially
those
of
African
descent
and
Black
Portuguese.
Upon
first
seeing
the
name,
I
found
it
shocking
that
any
business,
especially
in
this
day
and
age,
would
choose
a
name
so
steeply
immersed
in
racial
insensitivity.
Given
that
names
are
the
first
impression
one
gets
of
an
establishment,
this
is
not
only
in
poor
taste
but
reflects
a
lack
of
understanding
and
respect
for
diverse
cultures.
In
visiting
the
restaurant,
I
hoped
to
find
that
the
owners
had
somehow
rectified
this
unfortunate
choice
of
name
by
creating
an
atmosphere
that
fosters
understanding
and
embraces
diversity.
However,
to
my
disappointment,
this
was
not
the
case.
Instead,
the
restaurant,
in
its
ambience
and
decor,
continued
to
reflect
the
ignorance
indicated
by
its
name.
It's
crucial
to
stress
that
food,
an
essential
part
of
culture,
has
the
potential
to
unify
and
educate.
It
is,
therefore,
a
missed
opportunity
when
an
eatery
opts
to
alienate
certain
patrons
rather
than
inviting
them
into
a
space
of
shared
enjoyment
and
mutual
respect.
To
any
potential
patrons
reading
this,
I
strongly
urge
you
to
consider
the
impact
of
supporting
a
business
that
so
clearly
lacks
the
basic
understanding
of
respect
and
inclusivity
in
its
operations.
It's
not
just
about
food,
it's
about
principle.
In
this
era,
we
should
be
promoting
businesses
that
reflect
the
inclusivity
and
acceptance
we
aspire
to
see
in
the
world.
In
conclusion,
"Casa
do
Preto"
leaves
a
bitter
taste,
not
from
its
cuisine,
but
from
its
palpable
disregard
for
racial
sensitivity.
I
cannot,
in
good
conscience,
recommend
this
establishment
to
anyone.
It
is
my
hope
that
the
owners
reconsider
their
branding
and
take
a
hard
look
at
the
impact
it
has
on
potential
customers
and
the
wider
community.
Until
then,
there
are
countless
other
establishments
that
celebrate
diversity
and
inclusivity
with
not
only
their
names
but
also
their
service,
food,
and
overall
ambiance.
Seek
them
out.
They
deserve
our
patronage.
