Had one of the worst Masala Dosa ever. The potato stuffing was so bland. No salt, no spices. Such a shame. The Sambar was not sambar at all, it tasted like Dal. The sambar didn’t even look like it, leave alone the taste. Whoever is making these food items has no knowledge or experience making south Indian food. People giving good ratings definitely have no idea what an authentic South Indian food tastes like. Please do yourself a favour and visit Madras Masala few blocks away. It’s amazing.

A small mom and pop restaurant run by these 2 sweet elderly couple. The wife runs the orders and delivery and food and I believe the husband is the chef and runs the kitchen. I love the variety of south Indian appetizers they had and the dosa and utappam was also so delicious. By the way, this is a pure vegetarian restaurant. Parking was hard to find and there was a public parking that costed a bomb just parking there but seems to be common in Toronto area.

A perfect restaurant for vegans and vegetarians! Very speedy and polite service. I got the Thali special for lunch and it was amazing - wide variety of curries, a dosa, and some other items. Good sized portions - not too much or too little. Iced Chai was also good - very sweet.

I was looking very forward to eating a nice onion masala dosa at this place, however I was taken away at the quality of the food. Unfortunately, the potato masala inside the masala dosa was hotter than the Dosa itself, meaning it was microwaved. The sambar also was very poor, it was bland and had no taste. The dosa batter was also clearly not fermented well. I try to visit hidden places to try Dosas and I wish I could take you to some of the best quality dosa places in Toronto as my guests that’s also cheaper than your place to improve the quality of your food. Looking forward to a response.

Snacks are good. Can definitely work on the sambhar and chutney. Sambhar doesn't have any similarity in taste to how it should be. Red lentil is being used instead of yellow toor dal(probably for economic reason) but taste suffers. Chutney is a dismal look alike of authentic south Indian chutney. Coconut has stale smell, seems to have flour as a filler in it and not sure why color is added? Owner is nice but food might be liked mostly by people who have not had good South Indian food in India. Would not recommend to anyone who has eaten and likes South India food. This doesn't represent that cuisine in taste even remotely.

Good food, fresh ingredients, and immaculate vibes - South Indian Dosa Mahal's (1285 Bloor St W, Toronto, ON M6H 1N7) motto is to enjoy the simple pleasures in life. A warm restaurant in heart of Bloor, Dosa Mahal's thalis seek to bring the best of South India on a platter. Hoping to try a few wholesome dishes, I ordered the biryani thali and the roti thali. Both the thalis came with 5 assorted curries (tomato eggplant curry, mash potato masala curry, lentil curry, vegetable curry, and sambhar), raita, and papadum. Served with a biryani or a soft piece of flatbread, both these thalis had generous portions of curries and side dishes. The biryani was utterly fragrant and lflavorful while the roti was utterly fluffy - both of them paired well with the perfectly spiced curries. The dishes were only made better with the tangy pickles and refreshing raita - the perfect meal to remind me of home! Should you find yourself missing a wholesome meal from home, South Indian Dosa Mahal is the place to be. With several varieties of thalis and dosas, you are sure to fulfil your Indian food cravings! Great south Indian food at reasonable prices. All vegetarian, and the staff was incredibly friendly.

WOWW! This took me back to India. Home cooked taste without any artificial chemicals or preservatives. Huge portions & the best thing is that the young lady working the front is so sweet. Made sure my special request was taken care of and served me some complimentary Pakoras when I ordered them twice cuz they were delish!! I think the bad reviews are from people expecting gourmet food from a small, local, diner.

Cosy place in Bloor village owned by a Indian/Sri Lankan couple. Enjoyed the ghee roast and vada sambar. I have never eaten a more piping hot sambar in my life. The ghee roast was crispy. Saw some regulars coming-in for take away. The owner lady spoke with each of them with lot of warmth.

Great COVID vegan take out specia for $7.50 (may be 6.50 closer to closing time) - 3 curries and rice. Weighs 3lbs and good for 2 meals. Fast friendly service and lots of appetisers to choose from to add to your meal for $2.50. They're across the street now, support local.

This is a pure vegetarian spot and loved their delicious Gluten free crepes with savoury vegetarian fillings. Ordered a take away of 2 Dosas and some 10 short eats for $10. Even though it was a takeaway, Dosa was crunchy and loved every bit with their potato filling. There was a sweet girl who took the order and made sure everything is included in the order. Dinein option was available but its not fancy like other shops. I hope they will do some interior decorating in the coming years! Found out from other reviews that its a family owned business and I wish them Good Luck to succeed in the coming years!

Nothing fancy, plain and simple yet tasty. We ordered the spinach dosa platter that came with two veggies, mashed potatoes, green and red coconut chutney. The other dish we ordered was the chilli uttapam. Both dishes tasted good, wasn’t a lot of spice. There are a few starter options too- we ordered the medhu vada which was pretty good. Quantity was good. The fine lady at the counter was kind and friendly. If you’re looking for something fancy and fine dine, this is not it but it’s definitely close to homely feels.

The food was absolutely delicious and run by the nicest people! We ordered the ghee and cheese dosa platters and I loved every curry on the plate. The dosa was so crispy and buttery and they even gave us complimentary samosas and curry puffs to take home! Will definitely be back to try their other dishes :)

This is my go-to place to have authentic South Indian food. Highly recommend the dosas, uttapams, and the platters if you’re looking for a proper meal. The family that runs the place is great, don’t hesitate to ask for recommendations if you don’t know what to get.

I've been coming to this place for years, especially when it was at the other location. Yesterday I had a bad experience with the owner, I ordered take out boxes because I knew it would be too much food and we only had 10 minutes before my bf had to be back at work so we sat down and waited for our food to be made she asked me if it was to go I said yes because either way I'd be asking for it to go. When the food came we sat to have a couple bites and she comes out and says we can't eat there because we got it to go, I didn't understand why she's so hostile ...she also weirdly kept telling my bf "this is why I asked her!!" Sorry but no that is a horrible way to treat a customer...asking if it's for to go doesn't mean you can't eat there in my head so if you want to say oh we inflate our prices for people to eat here and charge a little less for it to go then say that because I'm not going to read your mind.... After we said we didn't know and we will leave she said "oh you can stay this time" How about no! Don't make us feel like we did something wrong especially when you don't even have table service there. I now understand why this place buries bad reviews and begs people only to write 5 star reviews for them. You've now lost a customer and I won't be back and I'll make sure my friends know too. Treat people better.

Amazing service and amazing food!! This place deserves five stars and more! Start by saying the food was fantastic. The curry was delicious and all the dishes/pastries were very well done! Loved everything we tried! Couldn’t go wrong! Also the portion sizes were generous, which we loved. Second, the service was lovely. The young women who was behind the counter was really friendly and very helpful! Finally, as far as the location goes, there are plenty of places to sit and eat, but it was less of a restaurant and more diner style, where you walk up to the counter to order and pay. We preferred to do takeout there, but would have been just fine to stay there as well.

Great food! You know it's run by a family that loves the food and takes pride in their dosa. Taste and price were on point.

Could you guys visit a different South Indian Restaurant to knw what a dosa and sambhar should taste like? Do not get the medu vada either, they were quite stale. The chef was quite polite.

I got some Idly to go and while they were totally fine, they did taste a bit bland and didn't stand out compared to the Idly I used to have in Berlin. However, what did really stand out was the Sambar! The Sambar in Berlin was always too watery, leafy, lacking of overall taste and too hot (and I really spicy food!). But the Sambar here is rich, thicket and full of taste, still spicy of course but just the right amount. I really like it. The Chutneys were not quite in the same level, they're tasty but too watery. Overall I would say it is a place I might get food from again, but it's not quite enough for 5 stars.

MUST TRY FOR AUTHENTIC VEGAN/VEGETARIAN INDIAN FOOD! I’ve been here a few times now. Every time I’m absolutely in love with the food and the quick service! The staff here are really friendly. The dishes also seem really authentic, they remind me a lot of home, so extra points for that! :) The decor is may feel a bit dated to some but I feel like it adds to the charm! It’s so hard to find cute little places like this in Toronto. Besides the amazing food (I seriously have a goal to try everything on the menu one day), the prices are just unbeatable. Definitely one of my favourite restaurants in Toronto!!!

This is my favourite lunch spot. I have been going to this restaurant for years and Naomi still remembers my name. The food is delicious and the people who work here are so nice. The new location is slowly being improved. The flavours are amazing. Never disappoints. 👍

I really like this restaurant. The staff is very friendly and the food tastes absolutely delicious! I also like that the stuffed dosa comes with two chutneys and lentil soup. I will come back every time I’m in the neighborhood. 100% recommend!

Had a traditional thali, very delicious, huge portions for the price. Lots of other menu options too and friend pastries. Fresh mango juice was great as well. Can't wait to come again

Very friendly people and delicious food. I love Indian food but they are mostly too oily and spicy. But this place has a perfect balance. I will come again to try more food.

I ordered a vegetarian thali plate to go. It came about 10 minutes later with 6 small and one large container filled with what I like. Good flavours, everything fresh done including roti. I would give it 5 star but there was too much rice. I threw 90% out, so wasteful. Everything else fabulous & I will probably come again. I could taste the lots of love.

This place really feels like an iconic Toronto restaurant now--it's really unassuming in terms of decor but the people are so kind and friendly. It feels like you are being fed by family. I had the potato dosa, which came fast and was so heavy full of tasty potato! I loved the coconut chutney a lot. Plus, there are great little fried snacks up front and I bought a bag of those too. These kinds of places are the places that make Toronto great.

I pick up traditional thali and asked for mini dosa but it wasn’t there. I also took a coriander dosa. That’s not a great experience for first timer.

Picked up a few bags of samosas and pakoras for canoe trip snack and they were a big hit. Friendly service. Great value.

If a Bong drives 9.1 kms to a Tam restaurant to get dosas, then you got to take that restaurant seriously. Good quality dosas, vadas, the curry samosa are fantastic - just awesome simple, tasty south Indian veg food. It's going to be a monthly REPEAT for us.
