I visited Gerst Bavarian Haus to try authentic Evansville food. It was SO good! I keep dreaming about the giant, soft, salty, warm pretzel with cheesy-tomato-beef dip. I love simple house salads with ranch - theirs did not disappoint. The cucumber and onion side dish was awesome, and the kielbasa was amazing. I was delighted to see a Malbec on the menu, which was excellent. We were helped quickly by a friendly server. I'm not from this area but will absolutely be visiting if I am ever in town again!

We were just thinking to order a pickup but they said they were not available this time, good thing they had some room for us and our waitress was very nice, friendly and efficient… thank you Joseph you really know who to make customers feel happy and comfortable! We loved the fried pickles, the Goulash but the Stroganoff is the hit! The team was also super friendly and gave us a good service even though they were busy. We usually visit the restaurant… You should try it.

Unique place I highly recommend. Ask for Devin to be your waiter. He definitely knows the menu and was very patient with our crew. We started with the Gerst Sampler to get a taste of several items. The potato cake thing was my favorite, who knew applesauce & potatoes went together? I would recommend the kraut balls too. The smoked pork chop was my favorite entree & there was a smoked lager on the menu that was the bomb. My husband loved his spatzle,, I'm not a fan of gravy but I think I would have like it just with butter. Our both was cozy (and quiet which is great when you want to hear your friends while you eat). 11 out of 10 for service ! I will definitely be back.

I don’t even know where to begin. This is hands down the best German place I’ve tried in a while. The pretzel is humungous!! It definitely can feed 4 dudes! Last night I had the Beef stroganoff and some German beer to wash it down. Best I’ve ever had. Everything from this place was delicious. And I’m definitely coming back for more. I might even get a t-shirt next time.

Food is good and in huge portions, come hungry and you leave satisfied. Finally got my chance to try this entree German sampler. All three choices tasted great! I loved the schnitzels, and they were delicious - lightly breaded and pan-fried to perfection. German fries and slaw are my go-to for the sides. May not be the cheapest meal, but leftover to bag is another meal on its own. Always feel full leaving here.

Yeah. This place definitely is one of the top stops in Evansville. Its been around since 1890 for a reason! Interior is interesting, and well decorated. Big bar with plenty of selection. Very happy with the staff- great recommendations on drinks and food. Super helpful and quite nice. Decent selection of scotch, wine, drinks, and of course beer! We tried the pig knuckle for the appetizer, and were not dissapointed. Sauerbraten with sauerkraut was great, as was the sampler meal. I tried the pork chop, bratwurst and stroganoff (these were the recommended local dishes). All were tasty. I'd suggest the stroganoff to anyone who appreciates big chunks of meat and whole mushrooms. Red cabbage (awesome) and baked potatoes for sides. Almost everything was served with a couple slices of rye. No room for dessert, but will return. Prices were reasonable, especially for the amount and quality of food.

December 23rd,2022 Fantastic! We had a party of 5 on the day after the blizzard. We were welcomed at the door and told the heat was trying to catch up, understandable since the windchill was in the negative. There were several other parties there enjoying a meal and drinks. None of us had visited this restaurant before, all our questions were answered about the food and drinks. When we received our food…..OMG! ALL our dishes were Awesome, we were able to share and had food to take home. There is also a children’s menu. This is a must dine at in Evansville. The stout beers were delicious as well and hit the spot on a cold day. This will definitely be a routine stop of mine every visit to Evansville. Wonderful people, wonderful experience. Honestly we were not cold while dining.

First time there and it was a wonderful experience, was seated immediately. Service was excellent, made sure drink were always filled and very nice. So many things to pick from on the menu, beautiful building and decor. Had to get the Ruben, and it didn’t disappoint. Thick, and juicy and the sauce was delicious. For the appetizer we got the kraut balls, they were gooey with a nice fried outside. Would definitely go to back and try more.

Great spot for dinner! They have German and American food available and tons of beer on tap. The staff was super friendly and fun to be around. We ordered the bacon charbroiled chicken sandwich, kielbase dinner, and fried chicken tenders. They were all delicious! We also ended up ordering a brownie and German chocolate cake. Definitely recommend this spot!

Visited during lunch hour on Saturday; server was attentive and prompt despite being very busy. Accommodated substitution request. Excellent authentic German cuisine, reasonable prices, great atmosphere and friendly staff. Highly recommend. My family has been enjoying this restaurant for about 15 years and it never disappoints!

Excellent authentic German dishes. My wife says the mashed potatoes may be the best she's ever had. The house mustard was amazing on the bratwurst with sauerkraut.

Hands down the coolest German restaurant/bar!! The kraut balls were nice and settle but the beef stroganoff was to die for!! Huge selection of beer. Great homemade food. We will definitely come back!! Maybe even tonight :-)

Loved this place! The food was excellent. The portion sizes were spectacular. Tons of beer options. Tons of food options including “American” dishes in case you have brought along a picky eater. Our waiter was nice and attentive even though they were very busy. Prices were good too. About what I’d expect giving the area. Parking could be better but other than that loved it and will be back!

This is probably the best German food I have had outside of Germany. Joseph our waiter ( go Pepperdine ) had great suggestions on food as well as beer service. He even suggested off menu appetizers like the giant pretzel. I was very impressed with him , the food, and the atmosphere. We are from Louisville. Came out to Evansville for a Theo von show. I think we will need to come back and explore this area more.

This place is amazing! Ice cold beer fishbowls, great food, and even better service. Brett was the man. He made a few recommendations for beer because there’s such a huge selection, food choice because I wanted the pick 3 meal, and even a gigantic pretzel that wasn’t on the menu. Everything was great and would highly recommend.

Kids and I wanted to try something new. German food is far outside our “normal”. Family friendly bar and restaurant. Can be a bit loud due to other inebriated diners- DO NOT let that put you off!! The old wooden bench booths and the old hard wood floors are wonderful but pales to the food! The food is absolutely stunning! Our waiter Devon was amazing. He took the time to answer questions, tell us about the dishes, suggest his favorites. All in all we had a fantastic time. Ask for Devon if you visit. Vanilla vodka, pink lemonade and tea- new favorite drink. Stroganoff and bratwurst and sauerkraut, pork tenderloin sandwich in the background. So good. Ask for Emily. Amazing lady.

This is a great local German brew haus style restaurant serving some great food, friendly staff and great brew and cider served in an freezer iced fish bowl. We discovered this place while in town for the week on business and are so glad we did. Whether you are a traveler or a local this place is worth your time and your money. Reasonably priced all around and is a short drive from any of the downtown hotels.

This restaurant is full of charisma. My server was helpful and on point. The Wienerschnitzel and sauerkraut were spot on. Throw in the fact that there is a great selection of beers to choose from.... Why wouldn't you want to try this restaurant out? Dont forget to try the Chocolate Cake with ice cream!

Some friends and I dropped by Gerst Haus for dinner and had a great time! Our server was great and very helpful, but I will note the dinner prices are a bit steep. The Giant Pretzel with beer cheese is $11 and worth an order, but shareable between 4-8 people. The Wiener Schnitzel, spatzel, and potato salad were also pretty tasty.

This was my first visit, and there was no disappointment at all. Food was amazing, 3 out of 4 of us gorgeous the combination dinner, and.son got the steak dinner. Everything was cooked perfectly, and was really good, but the one item that stole the show was the saurbratten (Indont think Inspelled it right) but that stuff was so good. it's what I'm having the next time I go. Give this a try for something different, go for German foood not chinese!!!

Great German food and beer! They have a lot of other beers on offer as well. I enjoyed the “Rostis” (potato pancakes) and the Goulash for dinner. Good service and fast. Recommend!

My wife and I came in for dinner on 11/24, and Brett was an amazing server. He was, by far, one of the best servers we've had at any restaurant in a long time. He was very attentive but not pushy or hovering. The food was amazing and we will definitely be back again. Please pass on our appreciation to Brett for a night of great service.

I enjoyed the experience of having German food.. Having lived in Germany in the early 80's It brought back memories.. The food was good but prices were a little high. Our water was efficient but not very friendly.

Delicious Authentic German lebensmittel that never ceases to amaze me with it's flavor! Mallorys service was impeccable and I couldn't have been more impressed! She took time out (even though she was busy) to explain the flavors in a way that got you excited to taste them and had excellent suggestions on their huge variety of beer! Without her knowledge, I'd be lost and probably too overwhelmed to order a beer but by just asking me some basic questions about what I liked, she helped me pick the perfect beer! If you're in the mood for authentic german lebensmittel, get yourself to Franklin Street jetzt sofort! ...and ask for Mallory!

Our dinners were very good and authentic german food. I was a bit bummed about the saurkraut balls as an appitizer because they were really just hushpuppies, very little ground up kraut and mostly just bread.
