Stopped here on our way home to stretch the kids legs for 45 minutes before jumping back into the car... wow! way bigger than we expected! Spent 3 hours unexpectedly. Lots of cool animals that aren't at our home zoo in Milwaukee. The otter tunnel was our favorite part, followed by INDOOR carousel (because winter).

We love this zoo! They have a large selection of animals you don't usually see. Plus, it's a great place to get your steps in. There's a small park/play area. All the extra stuff was closed, but we went on a weekday during winter break.

It's a really cute small zoo. Took around 2 hours and got through the entire zoo. I don't like how you can only get mobile maps. It's hard to see them on your phone in the sun, and the kids love to help navigate. Maybe having paper ones upon request and maybe laminated to save from having to make new so often. I know mobile is the way to go, but not everything needs to be. Three kids enjoyed the zoo, as did my husband and I. It broke up our trip home from Louisville, KY. It is off the path with some country roads, but overall, it's a great stop. We are members of the St. Louis Zoo, so we were able to get into this zoo for free. Parking is also free. The only place to get food is at the entry point. There are coke machines here and there around. We stopped to eat on the way out. It was okay. Nothing great. Do not recommend the salad for the price. The Hot Ham & Cheese was okay, and my son enjoyed his pizza. The fries came out hot, and I thought they were good. Prices were a bit higher than normal prices at the zoos we frequently go to. The gift shop prices were really reasonable. It is a small shop. There are extras you can do. You must buy tokens. $5 =5 tokens. Their website is easy to navigate, and if you email with questions, they seem to get back quickly.

The employees here need more inclusivity training. Our son has cerebral palsy and cannot walk. He was denied entry into the budgie exhibit as staff called his wheelchair a stroller. It's a special wheelchair used to be compact for school, not a stroller, his leg braces were also clearly visible. We tried to explain that he literally cannot walk and were told "no wheels at all" but the sign says wheelchairs are welcome. Our son was very upset about not getting to see the birds and we were disappointed in this interaction. I got the impression that they didn't believe he was disabled, and we were just trying to work a stroller in, but we had our able bodied child out of their stroller, we literally were following the rules and we were not allowed in. Edit: My husband later went to guest services, just to let them know about this incident and tell them they should request more inclusivity training. They said "they ask that if people who are in wheelchairs or strollers can get up and walk, then they should" our son was never asked to get up and while he can stand with support, he cannot walk. He was denied access immediately. We will not be coming back. The park, or the staff, are very unfamiliar with how disabilities and mobility aids work

Fun activity for the whole family. Many animals were missing due to "funding" and the trams are non-existent and are usually full when they finally come to a tram stop. Save your money and just walk the whole thing. Perfect way to spend 4 hours as it is not a huge zoo.

The zoo was really cool and fun. We had so great time at the zoo. They have several fun program for kids. For example, feeding Penguin, birds and giraffe. The park was good enough for walking around.

Really nice zoo. Big enough to have a good variety of animals but not too big that it's impossible to see everything in one visit. Very clean

Went to our first trip to Mesker. The zoo is quite lovely with strolling paths dotted with exibits and encounters. As you enter, you can go ahead and buy an annual pass that's good for 365 days. from purchase. Once you have your annual pass, you already have perks. Like a free tran excursion during tram season. So now that you are going to come back a few times, you can stroll the areas. Look and read and take in. Cause well you will want to come back. Along with your pass, you may want to ask about a sensory bag. You can get the entire bag. Or if you just need a part, ask for what you need. The staff is happy to help. They will also give you a schedule of animal feedings, and you can get tokens then as well. So now that you are set, you stroll in. And if you have a 5 year old, this is when they tell you they are hungry. Even if they just said no to the resent meal. No worries, to your right, there is a cafe. And if you got your membership, you can pick up a snack and get a discount on said healthy or treat. With everyone now set, it's a great time for a walk. If you love penguins, then you're in luck as they are right up front to the left of the entrance. And they are adorable. Now, if you got a look at the feeding schedule, you may have bought some tokens for an up close experience with said lovelies. But say you are more of a Red Panda fan. Mo worries its a little further walk with plenty to see, but they are a cute red pair. And on the plus side, it's a nice cool building for you to relax in while smiling at the red panda. Along with the red pandas, there is an exhibit of naucternal animals. Incuding a cat with such an adorible face, you just want to snuggle. There is so much more in the zoo. Animals from all over the earths biomes. I dont want to take away by telling you everything. Go enjoy... and if you like zoos, get the pass. Not only is it good there, but it can get you discouts and even free entries into other participating zoos and aquariums. The list is a long list and nationwide. Have a great year at the zoo. Tell them Kat sent you! Na you nore I won't get anything, but Im curious what would happen if suddenly 10, 50, 100, 1000 people say o yea Kat sent me. lol

So much more than we expected & the perfect end to our trip. The Amazon exhibit was a magical break from the chill, catching it on Orchid Escape preview weekend only added to the beauty. Everyone we met was so helpful & informative, including the tram operator who made an extra effort to find us and give us a lift. Be warned… some of the paths are quite steep, I’d encourage anyone with mobility challenges to plan on taking the tram from the start.

We enjoyed our time at the zoo ànd would definitely recommend it to people if they are in the area. I would suggest comfortable shoes because there are many rather large hills to navigate. I would also encourage bringing some snacks. Only food location at the entrance. I didn't give the zoo a 5 star rating because I felt as a botanical garden there were many area that the plants needed some attention and the grounds needed to be cleaned up.

We're from Illinois so we visit the FREE St. Louis Zoo often. Once you have been to the St. Louis zoo, no other zoo you go to can compare. The price to get in was not bad. But I would not pay to go back there. It is an okay place to take young kids to let them run around and play. The animals all look miserable. They have super tiny habitats/enclosures for a lot of the animals. The animals are not in very good shape... This place broke our hearts seeing the condition of the animals. We definitely will not be back. One employee was carrying around the tail of the giraffe that had been bitten off by a zebra(they keep giraffes and zebras enclosed together, even though they obviously do not get along). She informed us this poor giraffe will not grow its tail back. Overall, our one year old and two year old had fun running around, but they would only enjoy it a couple more years. The place is just depressing. One other thing, the parrots were definitely stressed out. Pictured below are of them. You can see bones and inside one's rib cage. The other one was eating one of its feathers. This place is just sad.

Mesker Park Zoo has been a family favorite since I was a toddler! With each remodel, it just got better and better! The addition of the Amazonia and now the Humboldt Penguin Exhibit have made it even better! I am looking for to having the butterfly garden back too! We miss it! Bring the whole family and bring them early on a weekday, if possible. It’s not as busy. Bring your mask, just in case, and have fun!

First time to this zoo. Read several reviews before going. There was several negative reviews about having to wait in line for an hour. We bought outlet tickets online but was not able to print them off in hotel. However the zoo can look them up by your order number. So I recommend buying tickets online. When you go the entrance gates, there is 2 lines (membership/online tickets and purchase tickets). So pay attention to sign above gate to see what line you need to be in. We didnt notice the sign until employee was announcing the lines, which helps speed up line. We got there 10 minutes before the zoo opened and was in gate within 15 minutes. There were only a few animal exhibits that were closed. It was really pretty and the signs were clear on animal locations, etc. However, I will say that some of the paths are uneven and there are some steep hills leading to exhibits. It may be hard for people with strollers or wheelchairs. There is token machines throughout zoo but didnt really know what they was for either. One suggestion for zoo would be a penny smusher. That would be cheap and fun for the kids. A lot of zoos and museums have them. But I think the zoo was worth the price compared to how expensive other zoos are.

We had a very fun-filled day at Mesker Park Zoo! The kids really enjoyed the feeding experiences (penguin and giraffe) and the carousel! There were also a few fun areas set up to take fall photos. I wish all the animals had been available to view though. Many were inside even though it wasn't a cold day.

Great place to go to get out of the house. Took us (a group of 3-2 adults and 1 Toddler) roughly 2 hours to get through the parts of the zoo offered-there is limited exhibits/animals due to COVID but enough open to enjoy some of the main parts. The staff was EXTREMELY friendly and helpful the entire time. Everyone wore masks and practiced extra cleanliness practice. Unfortunately they didn't have the Merry Go Round open or offer the Tram (we needed the extra exercise anyway lol). Overall happy with my experience here and will be going back. Make sure to get your tickets ahead of time due to COVID and review their site for any additional information or changes prior to your visit!

We became zoo members at Mesker this year, and have not regretted it at all. Over the summer, we went every other weekend and always had a great time. From riding the carousel, to feeding the budgies, to seeing our favorite animals do new things, it is never boring. Yesterday evening was our first time participating in Boo at the Zoo, and my husband and I had just as much fun as our 7 year old and 1 year old! The decorations were great and there was something cool to see or do at every turn. This zoo had made so many improvements over the year and seems to do its part in educating the masses on the importance of conservation and respecting our planets and its creatures.

Everyone always has bad stuff to say about our zoo, but I absolutely love it. For the size of Evansville, this zoo is perfect. In recent years, interest in the zoo has risen, and they've brought in more animals. The new Budgie exhibit is amazing, and I see great things happening in this zoo's future.

I can see why they give a discount for winter months. Hardly any animals out, most cages and habitats were empty. Most things were blocked off due to covid. Was not worth the time or money to go right now. My kiddos were very disappointed.

Boo at the Zoo is so much fun!!! The staff is so friendly and they really know how to decorate. We just wish there was a little more food, so bring lots of snacks! EASY for walkers, 90/100 for strollers and wagons. This zoo is the PERFECT size and we had so much fun!!

Whew...lots of uphill walking but the kids really enjoyed all of the different animals and exhibits. Recommend getting tickets in advance as I dont think walk up are permitted at this time. Great way to spend some family time exploring the beauty of the zoo....and I need a nap.

Good zoo, your able to get close to the animals and feed the giraffes. It is a bit small, we took the tram ride around a few times until my 2yr old got bored. And they don't have very many animals. Bird flu has some it closed so I will have to return to see the rest.

Mesker zoo is a great place to take your kids. The petting zoo is open now. The staff are still very nice. We enjoyed a day of walking up and down hills seeing all of the animals and interacting with knowledgeable staff. I recommend the tram rode because the staff tell you about zoo history and animal secrets and names! Very fun time, we will go again. We got a membership this year. Mesker is a must see if you are in Evansville with kids. It is small but fun. You can feed penguins, birds, and giraffes. The petting zoo is supposed to open again soon, closed due to covid. They have limited shows.... and a shuttle you can ride all day for $2. They are only open until 4pm. We enjoyed our visit. There are plenty of benches to rest and a play area for little kids. Parking is free. The hills will work you out as you explore. You can bring backpacks and lunch as well. The staff are also very nice.

The zoo was not bad for the price, but many exhibits were closed (understandably, out of an abundance of caution due to a recent case of Avian Flu). There was only one place open to get food, in the very front of the zoo, at the admission/exit. We saw very little staff during our time at the zoo, but several of the ones we did see were outright rude.

This is a lovely zoo where you can tell the keepers are passionate about taking good care of their animals. Well maintained, large spaces for the animals while still getting a good view. It can be a bit hilly as you walk around.

This is a great zoo for a small city. It is so shady with many mature trees and plants. Not every exhibit will always have an animal present but that is just zoo life and things happen and animals need care. It is so clean and the staff are all great. They are very professional and knowledgable. Evansville is so lucky to have this gem. Love the penguin exhibit.

It was a great choice visiting this zoo. Wasn't in my plans but was quiet, not too busy. I couldn't see all the animals because birds were being kept away because of the aviary flu, but still, I spent one hour walking all the facilities. Will come back with my kids. Employees are nice, you can see animals are well cared.

Decided to take the kids today since we would mainly be outside, and Corona sucks. Had an amazing time with the kids, and even though there were a few things we couldn't do, we all had a blast. I appreciate the effort of everyone who works and volunteers at our zoo and I'm very glad we renewed our membership!

We went last week and had a great time! There are some different pathways to the exhibits but it didn’t impact our visit. I think all of the animals have really been flourishing with the smaller crowds.

  • 4/5 Patricia A. 3 years ago on Google
Beautiful day for the zoo. My teenage daughter and I really enjoyed seeing the jaguar and other animals in Amazonia. Enjoyed the Carousel ride, but we wished the tram had been operating.

  • 2/5 Stacy C. 3 years ago on Google
It was a gorgeous day. More animals than the last time I was there. But, several exhibits were marked incorrectly, and the zoo was dirty. They could have taken the opportunity while they were closed to do some much needed painting and cleaning. And making everyone move in the same direction just caused more bottlenecks than if they would have let us walk on our own. Too much micromanaging. The gift shop was closed, the cafe was closed. You needed a "reservation " to get in. Be imaginative, don't follow the crowd mentality, but alas, the zoo in it's effort to be politically correct, botched a perfect day.

  • 5/5 Geena D. 3 years ago on Google
We went the other day and the animals were all so active! We were able to see every single animal and all were out and doing something. Highly recommend it

  • 4/5 Arica G. 3 years ago on Google
This particular visit was really more of a 3 star visit, but I gave it a 4 because I’ve previously had better experiences here and I think COVID is taking a toll. It’s very hilly so I would not recommend going on a hot day unless the tram is running or you don’t mind a good sweat. They have opened back up since COVID and have marked off the path in a way that you kind of have to walk the whole zoo in a particular direction, which may be nice or not depending on your perspective. No indoor exhibits were open, nor was the gift shop or children’s area, which was a bummer, but is on par with other zoos at this time. Several of the outdoor animals were not on display (not sure if they were being treated or sleeping or what) which was also disappointing since we were already missing out on the indoor animals. Weeds/plants were overgrown in some areas, not sure if this is due to reduced income or if it’s typical as prior to this visit I haven’t been in years. They’ve recently enclosed the carousel in a building which looked nice. And I remember the indoor exhibits being nice when I had come before. The giraffes come up pretty close to you which is cool. Overall a nice smaller city zoo during normal circumstances, hopefully people will continue to support them so they can maintain the animals and facilities for when they fully reopen.

It's a lot of fun. Absolutely loved the Amazonia part! The Komodo Dragon was amazing. Loved seeing all of the monkeys. The Rhino is gorgeous. The waterfalls were beautiful. The plants, flowers and trees were pretty. The goats were entertaining. The employees were polite. The place was clean. Looking forward to the penguin exhibit opening in 2021.

I love you zoos. I’ve been to the one i’m Indianapolis and St. Louis. $10 a ticket should make enough money for renovations. Every animal was depressed and most of the turtles (which they had a surplus of) weren’t even moving and looked dead. Most of the animals had no companions and just walked aimlessly alone. The enclosures are TOO SMALL for 75% of the animals. This was the trashiest zoo ive ever been too. Looks handmade because it’s falling apart.

It was really nice to come back home and go to the Evansville Mesker Park Zoo. The staff was friendly and aimed on keeping everyone safe. The animals were well taken care of and pretty relaxed. The red panda and jaguar were CUTE and BEAUTIFUL (respectively). They offer free sunblock and have a lovely carousel. They also offer single and double strollers for rent (VERY cheap). All in all, I was very impressed. I was informed about a grandparents seasonal pass and plan on taking advantage very soon!

Would be a nice little zoo if there wasn't a pandemic on. Not enough space, definitely got crowded by other people even though all the expected choke points are blocked off. Some of the habitats were small, didn't seem to give the animals much space.

The animals do not look very happy, the tiger walked around wailing in misery the entire time we were there. The inside exhibits stink like nothing I’ve ever smelled before, like the animal feces is not cleaned up, ever. (We’ve been to plenty of zoos, the inside exhibits have never smelled that awful) We were adjusting our masks inside one of the exhibits, trying to breathe from the awful smell, and the rudest employee came up to us, glared and pointed at her mask and then followed us around, like she was waiting to start a fight..... the only reason i didn’t give them one star is because it was such a beautiful day and we enjoyed the scenery of the outside part.

  • 4/5 Mark P. 4 years ago on Google
It's a small zoo but reasonably priced. The staff was super friendly especially in the dining area. Shirley did great and was good with the kids. Exhibits for the most part were well maintained. Only complaint is the wait time trying to get tickets. The one line extended out into the parking lot where people had to move due to incoming vehicles.

  • 5/5 tinylesbians 5 years ago on Google
Smaller zoo that's good for part of a day trip to Evansville. Small enough that you can walk the paths and see everything but it not take up your full day. Very clean and kid friendly. There are several kids areas separate from the main zoo attractions for getting extra energy out or just helping them learn about conservation. They have a giraffe encounter most days at 11am and 2pm that are very easy to make part of your trip and only cost 2 of the zoo's currency that can be bought anywhere in the park before hand. It's a really cool thing to do for kids or adults. Part of the year they even have paddle boats and a carousel.

We had a great half day trip to the zoo. We were in town visiting family and had half a day to kill. We are zoo members where we live and that got us 50% off to come here. My kids loved the zoo. Really cool animals we don't see at home. Rhino is my favorite, you get really close too! Plenty of shade to keep the sun off you was super nice. Some big hills though, but it's good exercise. It is a half day to see it all, but we loved what we saw in that time.

They have super tiny habitats/enclosures for a lot of the animals. The animals are not in very good shape.

A good place to spend time with family. Better visit in summer. In winter you may not get to see many animals.

They don't have enough animals for the price. No elephant, a few monkeys, I didnt see a lion and they had wolves before but didnt see any this time. It's just not what it was several yrs ago.

Not the greatest care for the animals, but other than that it's cute and small and if you're trying to teach your kids about animals it's a great place to interact with them just don't choose this if you're an animal rights person.

One of the better medium/small size zoo's I have been too. Worth the trip!

I was very surprised at how many animals are in this zoo, the kiddos loved it! With COVID they have you walk a one way loop around the park, but if you're there to see everything like us we didn't mind one bit. We even got to see the zoo keeper feed the kamodo dragon, and he came out and talked with our kids. Overall a very good experience!

Even though it was a hot day, lots of animals up and about. The new penguin exhibit is coming along nicely. The zoo is small at least by attractions but it's still great to go visit now and again. I recommend the season pass especially if you have kids and live close enough to go more than once. Otherwise prices are a little on the high side but since the city and community don't really support the zoo like they do in places like St. Louis it's about what you expect. Overall a nice place to visit, staff are helpful, I do recommend.

Nice zoo but a lot of the exhibits were closed off, maybe because it's winter time. My grandchildren still love this place! Really enjoyed feeding the giraffe!

  • 4/5 Amanda B. 2 years ago on Google
The need more animals with better visibility. Small kids can't really see most of the animals unless you lift them up and such, so if you have more than one or use a stroller, it's a lot harder than it should be. There aren't that many large animals anymore. The new items from the past few years are great, but hopefully, they update the old exhibits soon. They could use more animals in general or at least fill all the exhibits they have, but it's just not a large zoo and they seem to put focus more on plants.

Kids love this zoo no matter how many times we go. Penguins are cool and the cooler the weather the more active the animals are. From interaction with birds and seeing the rhinos and red pandas. You do have to go up and down hills though but if you have a few hours to kill or your kids love animals all in all it's a fun time I do however recommend season passes get free tram rides and discounts at the stores plus go a few times and it pays for itself.

Fantastic experience for my kids. They were able to feed penguins and giraffes, which is something they had never experienced in other zoo's. The staff was awesome. The animal handlers were awesome in explaining what the kids needed to do. So a wonderful place to go.

The animals are sick of everyone at this point. Not many were active and some be groomed. The walking paths are blocked for trolly. The trolly wait is very long. But the lack of entertainment you receive from the animals it's best to do the trolly tour. The cost us affordable and membership for $5 for adult n child with ebt. Unsure about any other amount or family size.

We enjoyed feeding the giraffe and budgies. We didn't stand in line for the penguins. I feel like the zoo is a little Raj down and definitely in need of landscaping.

There seems to be a lot less here than there used to be. It is still a really nice quiet place to walk around through the park. The staff is friendly and their events are neat. Although there seems to be a lot of unused space.

Pros: Very clean zoo, not too crowded, Budgie, Penguin, and Giraffe feedings, free parking. Cons: Very hilly walking (difficult for strollers, wheelchairs, and wagons), not a very large zoo, paddleboats and life jackets not in great condition.

I enjoyed taking my family here while we were in town visiting from Georgia. My kids loved all the animals, especially feeding the giraffes and penguins. My 7 year old has autism and he had very few meltdowns and loved that they provided him a sensory bag with noise canceling ear muffs and sensory toys. As a lactation consultant, it was great to see that they had a mother's room for breastfeeding/pumping moms. My only suggestion would be to have a more comfortable chair that moms of all sizes could use. As a plus sized mom myself, I often struggled to find a comfortable chair to use when breastfeeding out in public. We will definitely go back next time we are in Evansviile!

I love this Zoo as it’s always clean and it’s not so big that you have to spend an entire day to see everything. Definitely one of my favorite zoo’s to go to.

  • 5/5 Connor 9 months ago on Google
Great place to visit, helpful staff especially the guy (Bill?) who said he had been at the zoo a while but was his first day on the African Rift section. Lots of good knowledge that really makes the experience of the zoo more than just “looking at animals”! Would totally recommend.

Loved this zoo. The soda machine is 5.00! But I'm sure it's for the animals. You must feed the giraffes 🦒. I would definitely return. They are shy on XL shirts :( . We will definitely return.
