If I could I would give 10/5 to this place. they have the most most delicious, scrumptious, mouth watering, finger licking nut burgers. You should definitely try this. I can’t stress enough on how yummy the nut burger is but you should be prepared to wait as it is always crowded but definitely worth the wait.

Great lil hole in the wall all-natural food place that has been in Old Fair Oaks since the 70's. Their original nut burger is somewhat bland, but pretty good. I have not tried any of their other food so can't speak to that. However, I did get their chips and salsa for like $1.50 extra and the chips were clearly bagged chips and a bit stale. The salsa portion was extremely small and not very flavorful. So I recommend passing on that.

Literally my favorite place in Sacramento. Great spot for vegetarian/vegan food. Very flavorful and good portions for cheap. Tried to get something different every day when I was there, and every item was excellent. I must admit that the service was slow and the people at the window were pretty grumpy, but I the food was worth it.

Tried this place a couple of times now and I’ve always received fast and friendly service. The Nut-burger always fresh and delicious 😋 The Food. They are committed to good nutrition and whole foods. They use no meat or animal products such as lard or gelatin. With only natural ingredients. 🥜🥙🌮🥗🥬🥒🌽🥑🌶🥦🥬🥝🍠🥙

I’m not a vegetarian, but I really enjoyed this place. Nut burger is really tasty. It’s hearty and fresh at the same time. I didn’t feel greasy or gross afterwards like I typically do with traditional beef burgers. The blackberry yogurt scoop is super good. Delicious. We’ll return. Limited parking and limited seating. Nice giant wooden table inside. Be prepared to wait a bit (we waited 10 minutes at 11:30am on a Wednesday). It’s worth it.

I remember visiting this place once, years ago with my dad after a particularly bad day, and it was horrible! present Day: my mother introduced me to the Vegan Super Nutburger, and I couldn't tell until half way through eating it that it wasn't even vegetarian, but Vegan. Now I'm not Vegan or Vegetarian, so you can take it from me, you really can't tell. I had my mother order for me and I got a large side of pesto macaroni salad. The atmosphere was warm, friendly, and welcoming, to the point where after getting our food to go, I wanted to stay; get home, and dig into my Vegan Super Nutburger, and I couldn't stop eating it. Bite after bite until it was gone, it filled me up, all the way. The Pesto Mac Salad tasted like home cooked macaroni, and had a generous amount of a mixture of traditional dressing & Pesto. It was perfect for a hot day, and filled me to the brim with satisfaction & joy. The Sunflower Drive in is a Vegetarian eatery perfect for lunch with a small indoor dining area, and a large outdoor dining area. I'd recommend it for anything from just stopping by for a quick take out lunch, to small parties with friends, or even a business lunch outing, you really can't go wrong, and if you happen to be vegan, they can accommodate you for the majority of the menu. If you're not vegan or vegetarian, it's a bit different but you can't tell it's not meat.

A classic vegetarian restaurant in the heart of fair oaks! I enjoy walking around the park and coming here after for a healthy lunch or snack. My favorites are the super nut burger or the super avocado and cheese. The ingredients here are always fresh and I enjoy taking my vegetarian and vegan friends here!

Sunflower Drive In has THE veggie burger in California. It's called the Nut Burger or, if you prefer it to be a little larger with a flatbread instead of a bun, it's called the "Super" Nutburger. The patty is a housemade mix of nuts, veggie pulp, chickpeas, perhaps a touch of cumin in the flavor, and who cares what else all fried up into a patty shape and layered in a burger with fresh lettuce, onion, tomato and sprouts with a sauce. You can request cheese and or avocado. It's very filling with high quality ingredients. I have friends who live in the SF Bay area and Santa Cruz. We all agree Sunflower Drive In Nutburger patty is the very best veggie burger we know of. It's been around since the 1970s. They have haven't modernized much and that's just fine. Prices remain reasonable. The experience is largely the same. Walk up to the window (which may have a line during peak lunch hour and weekends), order, get your number and find a spot a share picnic table outside or climb the parking lot hill and sit on the curb. This is a time to chat, people watch, be amused by the Fair Oaks Village charm. Keep your toddler clear of any roosters because they have been observed aggressively defending the flock from clueless small people who think petting or chasing chickens is fun. This is not a time to get upset about waiting for your food in a rush. It ain't McDonald's and you'd be harshing the vibe to demand it

Vegetarian/vegan bliss. Great service. Wait sometimes long but well worth it. Sandwiches huge! Everything I get from this establishment is made to order, fresh ingredients and very accommodating to your needs. I wish we had more of these around as this is the lone veggie place left in all Sacramento that is actually good. I hope you open more someday as the healthy generation is coming back with the new generation of teenagers and early 20's generation of kids! Thank you for still being here to this day. Your appreciation for good home healthy food is quite evident as a business owner. Anonymous

I'd love to love this place, but after trying over 6 items at this place it's all just ... Underwhelming. The food is fresh, but the flavors are bland, uneventful, spice-less. I wish they put a bit more energy into sauces. Our kids bean burrito came as just a tortilla shell with what seemed like canned refried beans inside, no pico de Gallo, no salsa, nothing but beans and tortilla. The service staff don't seem very friendly or kind, may be they have been just tired and overwhelmed each time I have come. I can seem some people love this place, so it's worth a try, just not for me.

Unfortunately, today I did not have a great experience. Asked them for more sauce before I ordered, they made it dry, when I asked for more falafel sauce when they gave me my order, they said they cannot do anything about it. Bad service experience today.

My guy took me here bc I’m a vegetarian, and I’m eternally grateful he did bc the nut burger is superb, and surprisingly better than a meat burger. Would return to try something new and get the same thing again, and try the brownie 🍔🍔🍔

I have been here once before years ago and had my 1st vegan grilled cheese. The grilled cheese was really good. When I came the first time the staff were very warm, welcoming, helpful, and friendly. There were people that drove up from as far as Half Moon Bay and they were regulars. They tried to sell me on the nut tacos but, I had already placed my order. I hadn't been back until now simply because life got in the way. Covid-19 happened after I went and I hadn't thought about it for a while. Lately I've been eating more plant based and a little pescaterian on occasion so I remembered. Sunflower Drive In... 🤗

Love, love, love, the nutburger, or super nutburger! The nutty tacos are good as well. The chili, which is only offered in the winter, is super yummy, and they have spicy and not spicy options, and you can order it with corn bread or chips as well. The carrot juice is super delicious and worth trying for those who might be a little hesitant as I was. It's now one of my favorite menu items! If you have the chance to try their brownies, you will not be sorry. This place has been around for years, and there's a great reason for it! The food is delicious, and you can't get anything like it anywhere else. Well worth the wait you have as they make it fresh when you order it. Heads up, there is mostly outdoor seating. They do have a small amount of indoor seats, but it's very limited. Don't let that keep you from trying this gem of a place. Thanks, Sunflower Drive-In, for the years of great food and service!

Parking is a bit tough but I went after the lunch rush and only waited a few minutes. The egg salad sandwich is pretty good. The prices are decent too! Overall I definitely will return.

The nut burger and super avocado and cheese are two of my favorite food items in Sac. Both the mint and peanut butter brownies are excellent (and gluten free). Plenty of vegan options. Although I had the vegan burrito recently and it wasn't anything special.

Always a great vegan meal! So glad to visit recently. I love a messy ethical burger! Mushroom Millet is my favorite! Friendly staff. Great vibes all around.

Great place for a veg burger with their nut patty. This has been in the same location since the late 70s. Food comes out of summer quickly, but certainly is not fast food. And that's okay with me. Nice outdoor seating. The parking lot is a bit tight, but with other places to park in the street, which I recommend.

Falafel was very good. Girlfriend's got some vegan nut burger that was also delicious. The beans and chips were amazing as well. Really good and cool place to have lunch.

Can't believe this was my first time here. Locally renown spot great for a quick eat. Above all else it tastes amazing and it comes in at a great price. I'm not personally vegetarian or vegan, but this is now my go-to when my diet restricted friends want to get lunch

I can't for the life of me figure out why Sunflower Drive-In does have a solid 5 star rating! I've been coming here for 13 years and have NEVER had a bad experience. I've seen customers treat the staff horribly, even when it's crazy busy, and they just keep doing their job and making AMAZING food!! It is always worth the wait, they have signs telling you how long it will be and to CHECK your order BEFORE leaving the window. I guess you can't please everyone... SMH

I havent been here in about 10 years. I used to stop by here as a kid after riding my bike up from downtown sac. Stopped by on a saturday. This place is still the same as I remembered it. The old fair oaks atmosphere is killer, very chill. The nut burger is still yummy, the staff is still nice, and the pricing is still affordable. I love it.

How has this place been exactly the same for nearly 50 years? I love that no matter how long I've been away from home, when I return to the Sunflower for a nutburger, chips/salsa, veggie juice... it is the same, wonderful taste I've missed for however long. If you've never been... go. It can get busy at lunchtime... just be patient, your tasetbuds will be rewarded.

The burrito was outstanding. The pinto beans were done correctly,at least as far as I know of how pinto beans are to be cooked. The carob shake was a decent accompaniment to the burrito. Service was fast and courteous. Oh, and everything is organic, vegetarian/vegan menu options, double+plus-good. Definitely a place I see me returning to.

Excellent plant based nut burger!! I’m guessing there’s sunflower seeds in it and much more delicious falafel like flavors in a whole grain bun with sesame seeds, onions tomato, pickles & green salad mix that’s a large burger for the price of pure yummilucious flavor!!! Now my next comment—when will this wonderful place be open again for business since it’s not mentioned anywhere on the website!! My guess is that they’re remodeling! Please open soon!!

Best vegetarian place I've ever eaten. The berry yogurt smoothie is a no sugar added treat. The nut burger is definitely a must. The chili is amazing too. Favorite place to eat.

I love this little place. I’ve been three times. First time got the nut burger, it’s good. Last two times got the patty melt, and it’s DELICIOUS. Now I’m too nervous to order anything else because I like the patty melt so much. Their shakes are yummy too. Definitely expect a wait. One time it was 2 hours. But the other two 25mins.
