What an amazing place. Time stopped in 1974. There are bombed out buildings and large caliber bullet holes on others. Most buildings are in tact. Although you cannot go in the buildings there are still signs usable. One building advertises Color Film processing and that they take old style Diners Club credit cards. It's very surreal. It's well worth a few hours. You can pay to be taken around in a golf cart, you can rent a bike, you can rent scooters, or you can just walk around. What a cool place to go.

Old ghost town shows an abandoned part of town after the Turkish bombing of the area. A lot of old buildings and ruined houses are cordoned off by barbed wire and barricade fences. Lot of tours are organized and you can take a ride though the area by guided buses. Be careful not to wander in any of the dangerous condemned sites.

An amazing place to learn about the history of Cyprus and how it was lost it time of 1970's. Felt very sad too and a little eerie seeing all the empty shops and houses going derelict that were once full of life. You only have access to certain roads and it is mostly fenced of and security guarded, but definitely worth a visit to walk or cycle around. Their was some information boards. No cars allowed. Their is access to a lovely beach at the bottom with cafe and toilets. Access is free

Ghost town...empty (except tourists) street, overgrown houses. Cool to see and learn about the history, can be visited in under 1h. Whats funny/sad is that the villages around the ghost town domt look much better under current government.

Best beach in Cyprus, just next to the ghost town, not so crowded on week days, clear blue water!

It's really fascinating to see an entire town empty. Love to see inside the buildings...but then again...probably not. The story surrounding all of this and the personal testimonials we got from past residents living and working here is heart breaking. All the photos are of empty buildings stretch as far as the eye can see.

Gorgeous place. Working hours at 8 am - 5 pm. You get a sense of serenity and peace the moment you enter the place. The town is filled with beautiful trees while the ocean is crystal clear.

A once in a lifetime experience 🖤 Make sure you read up on its history first before walking through the ghost towns abandoned streets.

As a result of the fact that the two nations could not live on the same lands without conflict, I can say that it is a somewhat frightening, gloomy, glorious, sad and striking town as it was emptied almost overnight years ago. You will feel many emotions at the same time. Yes, I recommend you stop by here. It takes about 1 hour 30 minutes from Kyrenia and 1 hour from Nicosia Ercan Airport (ECN). Please obey all warning signs. No vehicle entry. Entrance to the area is made under police control. Inside, you will come across officials almost everywhere. At some points, UN military forces will also say a cold hello to you. (Not verbally!) When you go to the left after the entrance of the area, a small but wonderful beach with sand and sea will be waiting for you. Do not go back without taking this opportunity.

Worth visiting place. Ghost Town, it's name directly says what we really deals with. Sad, silent, partly destroyed, rusted and unfortunately looted place town. It shows sad part of not very old history of the island.

Ambivalent feelings. Interesting to see the place, but it’s not good idea to turn it to amusement place when all inhabitants were driven away and couldn’t come back.

Nice little bar/restaurant on the beach. Only had drinks but very good prices. Service was OK. Other people's food looked really nice.

Very interesting experience. Had difficulty to find it by navigation. You can rent a bike for a faster tour in the area. Bikes are nightmare and made for kids, but they rent it for adults too. Seat goes down and doesn't stay at the level you make. My advice- use your feets.

Great place to (long) walk or cycle around. There's a bus service at the entrance that takes you to the most amazing beach

If you enjoy history and exploring and imagining how people lived in the past, then this is for you. It's like taking a journey to the 60s and 70s. And picturing what life must have been like for the people who lived there and who eventually had to leave their homes behind. It is a bittersweet sort of experience.

Always remember that the land belongs to the Republic of Cyprus and it’s rightful owners and inhabitants! You don’t want to benefit the fake/illegal occupation but at the same time you want to educate yourself and view the old beauty while you can before they destroy it and cover any sense of its Greek past.

Visited as part of the Original Red Bus Tour Famagusta/Varosha, very strange experience seeing newish building next to the abandoned derelict 1970s buildings, stunning beach with crystal clear water and white sand, easy to see why famous people stayed here in the 70s. Such a waste of what was and could be an amazing resort, very sad.

Well worth a visit, you can walk, ride on a scooter or bike or even take a buggy ride, which is excellent, there stop off points and you are allowed to take photo's too.

Amazing experience. Must see place. Like a time machine back to 70s. It's also intresting to learnt why that city is locked down for 40 years. Should learnt more about Great Britain.

Lovely beach, but it was surreal with all the abandoned buildings. Fascinating how some buildings were being taken back by nature.

Absolutely Amazing.. When a beach hasnt been touched for over 45 years you can imagine how clean and golden it will be.. the sea is so clear and revitalising.. This place is overwhelming, you have the beautiful beach on one side and streets of history and a abondoned city like Las Vegas on the other.. Truly Amazing!!

A pretty shocking scenery, a real ghost town! It would be very helpful though to have some information available to have a deeper understanding of the historical situation. There is a low quality bike rental at the entrance, in case you want to go around a bit faster.

Marvelous place. Little sad but very interesting especially when you know the history of the place. Definitely worth to visit. Rent a bike or walk. It takes couple of hours to see all.

You are awed by the sheer devastation that must have been 1974. Famagusta Ghost town is like walking on a film set, waiting for zombies to appear! The beach with all its hotels staring into the Mediterranean sea, apart from the fact they are all bare, deserted and left almost 50 years ago! Abandoned, hoteliers with their customers leaving behind everything except their clothes on their backs! It's sad but engulfed in history that you have to witness it to believe it.

A very surreal place! To see such a sad ghost town where obviously was once beautiful, busy holiday resorts, turned to empty, sad buildings. But turn the corner and you are met with the most beautiful, tranquil (when looking out to sea), soft sanded beach🏖️ and the water is absolutely clear and so warm.🌅 Although it felt a little odd when the little fish came to nibble on our toes! 🐟👣 The restaurant on the front was lovely and the food was delicious. It makes me want to live here forever 😍

In 1964,the turks invaded their neighbour attacking a tourist resort, which the Turkish navy looted 5 days later taking fridges, cars, tourists jewelry back to Turkey. Turkey then shipped Turkish anatolia farmers to occupy North Turkish farms and the bodies of the Greek Cypriot farmers have not been found. The turks offer a specious argument for the invasion. The British wanted to help the Greeks but the Americans blocked it. There are many American businesses in North Cyprus. Famagusta was closed until recently except for the beach view of the seafront carnage. A small section has now been opened up. Having visited before, I returned to see what was now revealed. The tourists had to flee so quickly, glasses can still be seen on bar tops. Blitzkrieg squared.

Really interesting visit. Mr John Famagusta made the trip interesting.. take a snack in case the queue at the border is long. Also I would say that this is not suitable for children..

Fascinating desert town with the best beach in Cyprus after visiting almost the 2/3 of the island.
