Not a mosque. Turkish ruined Famagusta.

Nice historic mosque, converted from a church in 1571 with the preserved architecture. At the left hand side of the entrance facade, there is a minaret. A must-see tourist attraction in Gazi Magusa.

Coverted a church into a mosque

Such a fabulous architecture! Wonderful design, so delicate so flawless. Pity they turned such a wonderful cathedral into a mosque!!!!

I visited the ancient gothic St Nicholas Cathedral alias Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque in 2008. I was amazed to see a real French gothic skyline. Indeed the cathedral was built by Lusignan dynasty at the end of XIV century and converted in a mosque after the siege of Famagusta and the fall of Venetian Rule in 1571. The size is relevant: the church is about 50 meter long (60 with the apse) and the façade about 25 meter wide, a little larger that the adjacent Church of St. George of the Greeks in ruins.

Great architecture but i believe very bad job done while turning it into a mosque. Could have been much better. If it was preserved wholly. Ofc this is only my humble opinion.

It used to be a magnificent church. Then altered and converted into the mosque. Reflection of town’s past.

Ottoman empire built a mosque on church lol. They screwed the design. Looks so bad that way. Would have been cooler if church was originally protected.

Old cathedral look like French ones Now it’s a mosque

Beautiful old cathedral on the outside, but when it was converted into a mosque in the 16th century the interior has become very plain (which is the style of all mosques of course). Entrance is free (outside prayer times) but there is a donation box.

Great Mosque - Church. It was a church and then converted to mosque by ottomans. Nice caffes around it. There is a toilete on the left side from entrence. Entrance is free. There is a box for donations if you want. Inside is simple as almost all mosques , floor is carpeted and you have to take your shoes off.

The mosque/ cathedral is beautiful & very old as are the surrounding square that contains other historical landmarks. Calling this building a mere church is the real crime here. Far worse than the racist statements on here which are just utterly moronic.

This is an enormous, beautiful building which dominates the centre of the Old Town. Once a church, it was converted into a mosque.
