Beware of BED BUGS! I stayed there last week and came back covered with rashes. I have to treat all my clothes, bag and bed back home!! The staff was nice and helpful, the bathroom could have been cleaner, the shower was very small, during the week there was no towel for the floor in front of the shower. The first few days there was barely any toilet paper (it was then better the last day). The toilets were leaking. The breakfast was ok. The location is good, but I wouldnt recommend the place bc of the clear lack of hygiene and of course the bed bugs.

560/1500 Résultat de la traduction - BEDBUGS - DON'T GO - NO REFUND - We stayed with my friend 2 nights in this hotel. Despite our reminders and urgent requests, the hostel didn't reply. We had to contact the Booking customer service to receive a reply, which also told us that it was our fault and that we had brought them ourselves.... it's unacceptable. Many reviews on Google and Booking website show that this happens regularly in this hostel! We weren't even reimbursed. It's pathetic... The Penguin hostel and Booking customer service are not taking their responsabilities on this topic. You can see the photos attached.

Probably the friendliest hostel I've ever stayed in...fantastic fun! The small young team work really hard to make people feel comfortable and safe. It may not be the most boutique hostel in Faro and needs some upgrades....still....I'd stay there just for the fun...and the lovely people you will meet.

Its a decent hostel. You get what you pay for and thats fine. I would give 5 stars, but.... they offer dinner for 8€, and they served just one vegeterian wrap. It was poor quality, they didn't even heat up the wraps. So better eat out ;)

Avoid staying here, it's the worst hostel I've ever been to and I've reported it to the Portugal hygiene authority since this hostel shouldn't be operating! I had a very severe case of bed bugs after staying here, I ended up in the hospital and they ruined my holidays. My bunk bed almost collapsed when I climbed up and I was scared of sleeping there. The room has a disgusting smell and no ventilation or AC at all. Only one toilet and shower available and in terrible conditions. Breakfast disgusting. Don't be fouled by the good reviews, look at the bad ones and you'll see how many people had the same complaints than me. Make yourself a favour and spend a couple of euros more to stay somewhere better

Stayed there for two nights. It is a nice hostel with a really friendly staff that makes a tasty breakfast. Everything is very easy going and uncomplicated. There's a supermarket close by and it's located just a 10min walk away from the port. All in all definitely a recommendation although -1 ⭐ for the locker with the missing back wall.

Lovely, welcoming and friendly staff but hygiene needs to be looked into. The kitchen, toilets and communal areas were dirty and we saw a cockroach. I also threw up all morning after eating breakfast as I think the eggs were off, my partner was also unwell after. Very uncomfortable beds, good location.

The place is magic. Staff will make you feel incredibly welcome. It’s definitely a safe place where you meet like minded travelers, share the stories, a meal and some drinks together. Hope to come back once again - this time with my own lighter 😅❤️‍🔥great job guys!

DO NOT STAY THERE. I slept 1 night in a dorm room and I was severely bitten by bedbugs. Now I am spending the last day of my holiday washing all my clothes, hoping they will survive the necessary heat to kill bedbugs that might have infested it. I was up all night, stressing and searching how to solve this situation. If you look at past reviews, you’ll see that this issue has been going on for a while. It’s simply impossible that the staff is not aware. Yet, they keep on taking reservation. This is so disrespectful and uncaring. If you want to enjoy your holiday, spend your money anywhere else.

I recently stayed at Le Penguin Hostel and I have to say, I had a great experience! The staff was super cool and really made my stay enjoyable. From the moment I arrived, they were incredibly welcoming and went out of their way to make sure I had everything I needed. They were always happy to chat and share tips.

Friendly people and good breakfast BUT it is true that there are bedbugs in the hostel. I started to feel itchy and now I'm riddled with bed bug bites. this is such a serious thing and has been reported in the past and it looks like they did nothing. I would recommend the hostel owner to sleep in the 7th bed in the female room for two nights to check if he would feel ok with the itch. :)

Basic but clean and comfortable, great staff and nice bar/patio/breakfast area. Accommodates late check in too. Can't really fault them if your room mate snores like a chainsaw

The hostel is in a great location, 10 mins Uber from the airport and 2 mins walking from a large supermarket. (Buy your water bottle from the super market and not hostel as it’s cheaper there) The hostel overall is ok. They rent out a towel for €1. Each room has lockers so be sure to bring your own padlock. It also provides basic breakfast and a few communal spaces. I personally didn’t like that all the washrooms were outside the rooms and thought several of the staff members weren’t very friendly.

Wonderful people there, kept the place clean and it was a very warm and welcoming atmosphere upon arrival. There's an ice cold fridge stock with beers, soft drinks and bottled water. No complaints all love. PEACE!

A lovely place. The people and staff are super nice and welcoming. I only stayed for 3 days but had the most beautiful time there. It’s right in Faro so you can just walk through the city from the hostel. It’s small and cozy and it just feels like a little family.🌞

We checked in today and when we arrived to the room the mattress was disgusting. We left booked in some straight away and booked in somewhere else. Would not recommend sleeping in this place

We ve been there with my friend for 3 nights as nothing was available, the place is chill and good location. Several things to say and the most important point, we came back with Scabies! One girl we met and us!! Seeing the comments its something you had guys since a while. Then, the staff stay between them, you will find them always at the same place and it will be hard to find a place with them in all activities they organize, them first, you after. We felt on the side, and our friend been kicked out from the mexican barbecue when she had say yes to it the day before (no more space for her but for the staff yes) Rooms are ok, with space to secure your stuff but unconfortable beds. People come to hostel to enjoy moment with people, improve this point and please try to dont give anymore scabies to people.

Best hostel I ever stayed in! Very good location, very close to the old town and marine. Very clean and cosy, you can easily stay in patio all day and you will have fun. Delicious breakfasts and dinners made by volunteers and staff. They are always there for you when you need them. I am speechless! Big thanks to you guys, volunteers, Arenga and of course Helena!!! I already miss you and I know we will meet again. In one word, Brilliant!!!

The hostel is very nice with extremely friendly and helpful staff. Dinners were always delicious. I was also impressed how hosts trust their visitors by asking them to write their name on the list in case they consume drinks from the hostel. Fantastic. Breakfast was also great Maybe a bit overpriced for being a hostel though Otherwise all was great🧡

Hostel is well ubicated, only 7 minutes to the aiport (using Uber/taxi). Beds are comfortable. Staff were willing to help and were nice, speacially the girl who prepared breakfast :) Nonetheless, a very import point for me will be always cleanliness and I couldn't find that in this hostel. I found trash in bed and sink bathroom, faucets in shower and sink was not clean, at the morning the floor was not mopped or swept. Simply, the place was not clean and it made me feel uncomfortable. Other point is that during early morning (after 12am) one can't find nobody in reception, but need to go out to garden and look for staff. I was told nobody was working at that time, but they decided to help me (which I really appreciate). So if you go to this place, need to have in mind that probably the staff is composed of persons who don't receive enough payment but are allowed to stay in hostel in exchange of volunteering.

Extremely cosy hostel with super friendly hosts and a wonderful and welcoming atmosphere- lots of hospitality ! Nice place to get in contact with others and to get to know Faro. We could prepare our own breakfast and coffee in the hostel's kitchen to get ready for our trip through the capital of the Algarve! Highly recommend it and for future hostels it will be hard to amaze me like this place did :) :) 🌞🌊🌋

Absolutely incredible hostel and most down to earth professional and welcoming staff/volunteer they really do go the extra mile to make you feel at home. The guests I met were really friendly and approachable It was my first time in a hostel and I was very pleasantly surprised. Very safe and honest people who are always happy to help. I could say more but in closing don’t hesitate to visit the hostel I’m very sure you won’t be disappointed. Thank you for a great stay guys I appreciate you all. Bradley S.

I meet Jorge(works in Le Penguin) in Lagos! He helped me find this place in Faro. All staff were amazing. I would highly recommend. I will 100% be back!

I loved the welcome by the host Adam and all the people who were staying there. Very chilled lay back vibe. My bed in the 4 bed dorm was comfortable. The food cooked by the host was on point. All staff were accommodating and friendly. I will stay again for sure!

The hostel staff truly make Le Penguin hostel a fun, comfortable place to stay. I was only meant to visit Faro for a few days but I extended for two weeks because I had such a great time! The vibe in the public areas is light, friendly, and welcoming and all the necessities are provided for you. I’d say the little nook they have that’s the main living room should be on one of the top ten undiscovered treasures of Faro. The meals they made were great. The manager is an excellent cook. I especially loved the little chili competition he had with a guest. The place is great but be warned! This hostel has a very social atmosphere so if you don’t like making new friends and creating special memories, maybe you should try somewhere else. When all was said and done my stay was truly unique and I’ll always remember the time I spent at Le Penguin.
