If you've got plenty of free time, it's a good visit. If you've only got 48 hours in the city though, you won't be missing out by not going. There's a lot of rooms there and some are incredible, but a large section of it just feels like a huge empty building. Towards the end there's a lot of objects to see but for a large part it feels un-lived-in as opposed to being preserved from the time it was lived in. Most of the staff seem annoyed by tourists, which is slightly inconvenient seen as its a tourist destination. On the plus side though, there are some incredible rooms and the surrounding area is beautiful, historic and worth seeing. Finally the German guy born to Italian parents working in the ticket booth was great, super helpful and really friendly.

Very grand, very big, and very worth the visit. We came a couple of hours before close on a Sunday, and had to wait in line for 15-20 minutes to buy tickets. They have free audio guides as well as a coat check. The space is massive - they have an option for the Full Tour and a shortened version. We visited at the end our day and we're exhausted, so we raced through the full tour in a little over an hour, but expect to spend 2-3 hours in just the museum to really appreciate everything and listen to the audio tour.

For ~ 9 € you can enter and see by yourself the greatness of this huge palace. This place was used as residence for bavarian monarch from ~ 1385 to 1918. You can also use a guide your (very useful) but almost all rooms also have the explanation written. It’s very nice to observe all the architecture and history/ representation behind the paintings in the walls and ceilings. Although this place has A LOT of rooms, so keep in mind this tour is very tiresome (kids may be bored) and lasts something like 2.5h. There you be a “short” path and a “long” one as you are visiting, you choose.

A very impressive palatial residence in the centre of Munich. Entry is €10 and it takes a couple of hours to go round, more if you listen to the audioguide in every room (available free in multiple languages). There are also signs in German and English with a brief description of each room. Every room is ornately decorated, but it does become a little bit samey after a while. Worth the money, but it's good not great.

Very cool place to explore. It’s not as ‘grand’ as for example, the palace of Versailles, but it sure has its charm and some very interesting stories to tell. The self guided tour is well organised so you get to see everything and learn via the free audio guides provided. The price is acceptable and you can easily spend a whole afternoon in this old Royal residence.

An interesting building, but overall a bit of a letdown. I would not queue for entry. It took us about an hour to go through the whole place, the audio guide was far too detailed to be interesting so we ended up not listening to anything beyond the first few rooms. The audio guide is free and available in many languages. We visited at 3pm on Wednesday in December and there was no queue.

What a great museum!! It’s incredible inside! Rich place. Definitely worth to visit when you are in Munich. But chose together with royal treasury. Crowns, swords, and other incredible treasures are there to enjoy seeing before the palace.

The Baroque interiors make this palace well worth a visit. It was once the Royal residence of the Royal family of Bavaria and they didn’t shy away from decorating their palace. It’s definitely worth it when in Munich. There is also a Christmas market that’s free to enter within palace grounds.

Must visit in Munich. This is very beautiful and one of the richest palaces in Europe I have ever seen. Very impressive collection of interior design from different centuries in all its beauty. That day we were there were small concerts representing different epochs in different parts of the museum. It was very charming and like a pleasant surprise for visitors.

Very beautiful place that worth visiting. You can have an audio guide that takes 2-3 hours to see everything, but you can move faster if you want. We bought the tickets on the spot and we didn’t reserve in advance even on the weekend.

Worth a visit when you are in Munich. The place is well maintained and get the audio guide to have a better understanding. It takes about 2 to 3 hours to experience the entire place. Either be there when the place opens or be prepared to stand in line for 20 to 30 minutes to get tickets. Unfortunately, no online tickets.

It's so magnificent, literally. I expected it to be good, but not great. It ended up being better then great! We spent over 2 hours inside and even had to rush through some parts 'cause it was very close to closing time. You really get to see a lot for your money and the free audio guides are good, informative and detailed. If you are a tourist in Munchen, Don't miss this, it's amazing! (Photos are about 5% of what you can find inside...) Photographers, bring a (very) wide lens with you xD

By far one of my favorite activities during our entire vacation. The history that the palace held was amazing and the way the tour was presented kept me excited for each room. I paid for the audio guide and really enjoyed the explanations on the guide. A tip for those using an audio guide would be to bring a pair of headphones you can plug in to the guide so you don’t have to hold it up to your ear. I highly recommend setting aside time for stopping and exploring! Be sure to arrive with plenty of time before closing. They do not allow entry one hour before closing.

Incredible museum, only 9 euros for the basic tour with free audio guide. It took me about two hours. The residence is huge with many different chambers and apartments and several breathtaking rooms. It is 100% worth a visit. There is also a Christmas market happening inside one of the courtyards.

If you'd like to avoid crowds, try to visit on a weekday around 4pm. It's usually pretty quite around that time. This museum is amazing, and the experience became magical when you pretty much have the whole place to yourself. But be advised, it's actually a very large museum and closes at 6pm. 2 hours might not be enough for some to walk through the whole place

It takes nearly 3 hours and a half to discover The Residenz. As of 2021, you need to register with your name, contact details and address before enter the main gate (as part of the measurement to control the spread of the corona virus) The entrance fee will cost you : 9,00 € for adult This museum is really worth the price. It is a highly suggested place to visit when in Munich.

One of the most impressive and beautiful palaces I’ve seen. The ticket was 9 euros. The rooms are amazing with extravagant rooms and luxury furnitures. There are several courtyards including the Royal Palace courtyard, the Imperial courtyard, and a few more. The fountain courtyard by the Chapel was the most beautiful. You are allow to take photos without flash or tripod.

Rivals the Vatican in sheer size and awe inspiring works and rooms. Massive location - highly recommend planning on at least 3-4 hours. You can blaze through faster but it’s worth the time to enjoy yourself. I loved the theater. Very quick “tour” but its jaw dropping.

It's beautiful! The audio tour takes 2-3 h but you can also opt out and browse the rooms as every room has a placket with info which we found sufficient. This way took us about 1h. It is worth visiting!

In my eyes, this sprawling and labyrinthine palace complex is the most magnificent attraction in all of Munich, a must see. The Residenz is splendidly and abundantly decorated with ornate reliefs, bronze and marble sculptures, wool tapestries, oil paintings, large tableware collections. As I understand, many of the rooms are reconstructed, and there was indeed reconstruction work ongoing during my visit, but the finish in each room was impeccable.

Amazing combination of museum and historical building. Can be cold in the winter as there isn't great heating in these old buildings. I would recommend against doing the long tour with small kids. Very nice audio guides (included with cost of entry). The Christmas Market nearby is nice.

One of the most impressive buildings I’ve seen. Even more impressive than the Palace. Loads of rooms to see and a free audio guide to get more information on each of the rooms. Took us about 2-3 hours to see the museum and the Treasury, so would definitely recommend coming earlier on the day. The theatre was only open from 2pm today so worth checking out the opening times on their website. Friendly staff and reasonable price for a combination ticket.

Would call it one of the greatest museums in Europe as the building and all the interiors are nicely preserved and well maintained. There is so much to see! Definitely requires at least few hours to see around and through! Don’t miss when visiting beautiful Munchen!

Really cool but if you’re not into museums I don’t recommend. If you get the combo-ticket for all 3 attractions and follow along with the audio guide, the whole thing it takes about 4 hours... we just got tickets and walked through on our own, but without the audio guide there is not much information about anything so it’s hard to do it that way and just see things for yourself as well. Reasonably priced, students are free, college students are discounted, make sure to ask!

Beautiful palace with tons of history! There is so much to see, I recommend purchasing the all €13 ticket so you can see the theater, treasurery, and museum. It is full of amazing sculptures, paintings, tapestries, silver, gold, everything a king would have. All of the artifacts have been well cared for and preserved. Make sure you wear some comfortable walking shoes, my wife and I walked about 4.5 miles inside the residence looking at everything.

(Translated by Google) Munich Residenz is the largest city palace in Germany! If you go from Dienerstraße to Max-Joseph-Platz and its powerful façade, you can see a very impressive view. The interior tour continues with historical communities - in different period styles, the housing has been constantly expanded and rebuilt over a 600-year history. Also worth a visit is the property's treasure, the magnificent Rococo-style Cuvilliés Theater and the majestic courtyard garden. (Original) Münih Residenz, Almanya'daki en büyük şehir içi sarayı! İç mekan turu, tarihi topluluklarla devam ediyor - farklı dönem tarzlarında, konut sürekli olarak genişletilip 600 yıllık bir tarihte yeniden inşa edildi. Ayrıca görülmeye değer, tesisin hazinesi, Rokoko tarzında muhteşem Cuvilliés Tiyatrosu ve görkemli avlu bahçesi.

Enormous City Palace in the middle of Munich. Enjoyed the self-paced tour, seeing how Bavarian royalty lived for 400 years. Wild to think that people lived and continue to live this way. Short walk from the Marienplatz Subway station, be prepared to check book bags and umbrellas, and wear comfortable shoes.

You can see and learn the great history of the Wittelsbachs, particularly Antiquarium. The paintings, sculptures and so much more to enjoy taking 2 or 3 hours to complete your tour. Due to COVID, some galleries were closed hence giving 4 stars instead of 5 stars.

I recommend to get the free audio guide because I didn’t know why a lot of the pieces were modern replicas. Also the first 15mins of the museum looked unfinished or maybe they were getting ready for something but if you keep going, you will be in awe of its magnificence. Give it at least 2 hours to walk around.

Step into the Middle Ages royal lifestyle at this royal palace. Wow! Built originally in the 1300s, added onto it by the 1500s, completed by the late 1800s. Over 100 rooms, gilded, decorated with ornaments, tapestries, beautiful furniture. Start with the Treasury area on the bottom floor if you want to see magnificent pieces of jewelry, ornaments, drinking vessels and eating utensils of the Middle Ages. The rooms, over 100 of them, have beautiful tapestries, embroidered seat covers, paneled walls, decorated ceilings, etc. Finally, the Cuvillie theater is just beautiful. Have a peek and imagine young Mozart playing here. This is a must tour if you are in Munich.

Incredibly extensive palace with multiple floors. A lot of them seemed to be reconstructed, but the rest are dazzling. Spent around 2-3 hrs here and couldn’t go through all the rooms. However after a certain point, it does get repetitively dazzling especially if you’ve been to other palaces around Germany.

Surrounding area is very nice with big open space (park-like), also there are some theaters near by. I wanted to really explore this historic place so it was very nice. It’s a really long tour so if you’re planning to visit, please make sure to have comfortable shoes and bring some water. Toilet facilities were fine and clean but there was no place to get water and after the tour I was really dehydrated. It was a warm day so it was pretty difficult for me after 2-3 hours of tour.

This place is not bad to visit. It can see the stuffs of the king in the past, it also can see how the high class people in the past lived. You can see the beautiful architech. It will take about 2 or 3 hours to visit everything. The cost is not high. If you can book online ticket, it will be better. You do not need to queue in front for a long time.

Lovely place for an afternoon in the middle of the city! Everything inside is just so beautiful to look at. Enjoyed my time there, definitely worth a visit. Not very crowded, which is great. Enough English descriptions to get an idea of what I’m looking at and I believe there is an audioguide. I wouldn’t pay extra for it though (can’t remember if I did) as it’s pretty much the same as the written descriptions.

The Residence is all gold and rich tapestries. The wealth of the rooms is breathtaking and everything has been very carefully restored. The audioguide is, however, rather lengthy and boring, it is enough to just read the descriptions in every room. The visit is at least 2 h long.

Very fancy museum situated in city center , very easy to reach it out. The Munich's Versailles which offers quite astonishing memories from the decades, providing to the toursits the opportunity to feel and see how the reach people from 18-19 centuries were living. During the weekend might be a bit crowded, the museum offers audio guide in quite a lot of international languages. Ticket adult price: 9€

Very beautiful building and its museum is very interesting. The rooms are all magnificent and full of history. On the other hand, we arrived at the museum at 4pm (attention last slot to take your tickets!). Knowing that the museum was closing at 5pm, we knew that we would not have time to visit in details because the initial visit of the whole museum is planned for 2-3 hours. The person at the counter asked us if we were sure we wanted to visit the museum knowing this constraint. We agreed but without the audio guides which would not make sense for a 1 hour visit. Once we start our visit, it’s a bad joke : the 1st rooms are in a quasi complete darkness, no more light nor interactive board, everything is already turned off whereas it is only 4 pm and the museum closes at 5 pm! Then we see a sign "short visit" only accessible, the "long visit" having just been closed under our eyes (whereas we paid a full price ticket!). Fortunately a nice lady sees us and authorizes us exceptionally to pass by the small door to continue the "long visit". (Thanks!) But then, a man in charge of security rushes us by showing us his watch and saying "time time, faster faster". We don't even have time to read the signs briefly summarizing the rooms. It is then that after only 40 minutes of visit and being in a hurry that we arrive at the end of the visit and realize that we could have taken much more time in each room! To sum up, why were we not given all this information at the beginning at the ticket office? Non-transparent communication and quite disappointing from such a cultural monument. So if you want to have a good experience don’t come at 4 pm but way earlier in the day.

Such a beautiful place with a lot of history so make sure you come with a lot of time. We did the audio tour for both locations, the treasury one is super short but totally worth it as that is where the crown and the jewelry is. It's very impressive to see all the history in the house and all the tales. A must see if you come to Munich.

I did the residence only tour and it took about 2.5 hours to see it all. There are complimentary audio units available in different languages - you punch in the number corresponding to the room or art for more info (you can bring headphones with audio jack to plug into them). The residence doesn't look like a lot from the outside but it is beautiful inside. I recommend going when they first open in the morning, during the week. I had most rooms to myself!

Well worth the visit! They have such unique sculptures and other works of art from around the world. We went around noon, so we missed the crowds and it was wonderful having some of the halls completely to ourselves. We didn't opt for any guides or anything, so we were able to peruse the whole place in a few hours. Taking a star off since we tried to visit a previous day and was shouted down by the ticket reception, saying that we couldn't visit because there was only 2.5 hours left until closing. We had said we didn't mind, since we didn't plan on getting guides, but she told us to come back another day. We chalked it up to her being very adamant that we needed a lot of time in the museum, but we were a little turned off by her attitude. Note: Visited prior to COVID; things may have changed.

If you like history I would say this is one of the best place to be in Munich. Entrance is 9€ but that is including the audio guide ( available in multiple languages). That price is really worth. The audio guide helped to understand everything clearly. It also had good background music which gave a real good feeling when you get into many royal rooms. One thing I should warn you is that , if you plan to listen to the audio guide and take the tour around the palace it will take approx 2.5hrs. The only downside was that while you walk around for 2.5hrs there isn’t a single place to sit and take rest in between. So be prepared for that.

Absolutely sprawling complex filled with incredible rooms, art, furniture, etc. from a wide range of time periods. Feels like a maze and takes a long time to walk through, but well worth it if you are interested in seeing the history of one of Europe's largest Residenz's.

This tour with our tour guide was amazing. Each room was different from the other and so much gold in each room. It is hard to believe the amount of money spent to make it look this way.

  • 3/5 Vic M. 2 years ago on Google
Not sure why this attraction is so popular. The museum visit costs 9 euros per adult for the 2.5 hour experience. To get in, as of this date, you must show ID and Covid situation(3G). Then you get an opportunity to buy your ticket and pickup a self guided tour speaker... which made the line very slow. This tour should be half the time. Most rooms were repetitive and worst, they're just replicas of the real thing. Most of this place was destroyed during World War 2. It was quite a let down.

Fascinating history and building. There are multiple ticket options to choose from and can range from a short tour (maybe 1hr) or much longer tours depending on what you want to see. The largest royal palace in Germany, whose historical texture was tried to be preserved and restored despite World War II. It draws attention with its Baroque and Rococo architecture. Definitely a building worth seeing. Scenes from the past life of the German royal family. The works and rooms are quite interesting. It is quite interesting to see similar aspects with the palaces in Turkey. The palace can be visited quickly in 3 hours for those who like to visit.

The residenz museum is a primary residence and government office for over centuries for Bavarian rulers. The buildings are vast with seemingly unlimited rooms. The banqueting hall with long table and fresco painted ceilings are captivating. The gilded long ancestors hall is stunning. There are lots of original tapestries, furnitures and antique. An audio guide Is provided with the entrance fee. The whole museum is well curated. Lots of items have the explanations within the audit guide. Two or three hours can be easily spent here if you are interested in listening to all the details.

Tickets are better bought on the spot, so that the people selling them can tell you if you can make it. For the fee required, this is an extraordinary journey through almost the whole castle. 130 rooms after, you'd feel like you visited 2 royal palaces. It's huge. Better have time for this. Not that you can't make it in an hour and a half, but there are even more things to see than the room wing. Also, there is a nice garden in front of the palace and few different entrances in the yard itself.

The Munich Residence is a stunning palace with a rich history and impressive architecture. The lavish furnishings and beautiful gardens are a must-see. The audio guides make it easy to learn about the different rooms and exhibits. You can purchase your ticket at the entrance with cash or card. The last entry is at 5 pm, but would recommend arriving earlier to fully experience the history and beauty of it.

This palaces offers a tour not only kf a magnificent building but also a tour through the ages with its different building styles. It also shows what Germany has been through the centuries. From a simple renaissance interior to luxurious 19 century. However the buildings also shows the damages done by the second world war. Overall an experience not to miss

An enormous royal palace in central Munich, home of the Electors/Dukes/Kings of Bavaria. It also contains the treasury of the Crown Jewels of Bavaria, which are stunning. The palace itself is enormous, and the audioguide of the long tour could take 3 hours or more. I spent two hours just in the palace. A must visit when in Munich.

Amazing and beautiful!! I absolutely loved it. I did it by myself with no guide or audio guide but I would recommend taking a complete evening or morning to see both the Residenz and treasury so you can see it at a normal pace and get the context and details of history embedded in each wall, painting and sculpture. The theater is too quick to see and there is nothing outstanding compared to the other places at Munchen Residenz so if you're visiting the 3, start with the theater. You cannot enter with a bag so you'll need to leave it at the entrance and the tickets can be bought both at the Residenz entrance (there is always a suuper large cue) but also at the Theater, so better go for this one and avoid waiting to get your tickets.

Worth visiting and spending time in as it’s one of the best museums and residences I’ve been to. The architecture and history of the museum is amazing, information and descriptions of most of the rooms & remarkable pieces is available. I don’t recommend taking kids or babies to enjoy reading and listening to the information and strollers are not allowed.

  • 5/5 Fani M. 9 months ago on Google
It says 2-3h for visiting the residence and 1h for the treasury. I did the long tour in the resicende for 50min (didn't listen to audioguide, just enjoyed walking in the rooms) and visited the treasury for 10min (absolutely NOT WORTH getting the extra ticket for the treasury). The residence is very good value for money. Some rooms are as nice as Versailles but the castle is in general less chic. However, there are many rooms and not as many visitors as in Italy and France, so it was a very pleasant experience.

  • 5/5 Tom S. 8 months ago on Google
The size, scale, and sheer opulence is mind boggling; it's one of those places you have to see and experience in person to really "get it." You can easily spend at least a couple hours getting through everything, depending on what all you want to see and do. There are a few points where you can choose to take a long tour or short tour, and I'd probably do the latter; at some point room after room after room gets a little repetitive.

Stopped through during my trip to Oktoberfest and this place was bigger and better than I expected! We visited during the week and got our tickets at the counter. Amazing palace!! One of the best I've seen. The staff are very friendly and the tour and audio guide are amazing. The only reason I'm giving it a 4 and not 5 star is because the tour is very very long and for a self guided tour it could get quite boring. Also a lot of the audio guide videos did not have much information about certain paintings but still took a while to listen to so it took up time. I'd say it takes minimum 3 hours to get through this palace and there's no cafe for food.

This place is huge. It was unclear where the entrance is. Exhibits got a bit repetitive towards the end. I appreciate them putting seats throughout the palace for people to rest. The theater is beautiful. Tickets are included for 14-day pass holders.

Beautiful palace to understand how Bavarian Royal Families lived. The building itself is beautifully decorated, and there is still a complete collection of furniture and accessories of the different rooms. Worth to spend 2-3 hours inside. Visitors get free audio guides, but there is also information in English.

The residenz is very large and gives you a generous helping the gaudy extra-ness of the monarchy. If you're into that, then you'll enjoy this. Word of warning -- we went when it was 0 degrees Celsius outside in December, and it was as cold inside. So maybe wear your coat.
