The
Good,
The
Bad
and
the
Wonderful!!!
We
were
there
for
4
nights
a
few
weeks
ago
and
LOVED
It!!!
Heres
what
you
need
to
know.
This
is
a
Very
Basic
Backpackers
Hostel.
It
has
very
few
private
rooms,
mostly
dorms.
The
main
building
is
right
on
the
water
along
with
only
two
private
rooms,
the
rest
of
the
rooms
are
in
the
back.
This
is
the
least
expensive
accommodations
in
the
Mamanucas
chain
that
we
could
find
and
given
what
you
pay
you
cannot
expect
a
lot.
So
if
you
are
the
kind
of
person
who
is
looking
for
a
US
style
hotel
with
niceties
like
coat
hangers,
a
mirror,
bedside
table
etc,
you
may
want
to
skip
this
one.
However,
if
you
want
to
experience
TRUE
FiJIAN
Island
life,
the
beautiful,
friendly
locals
and
an
exceptionally
interesting
and
constantly
changing
group
of
young
world
nomads,
you
won't
be
disappointed.
Our
family
group
consisted
of
a
60
year
old
married
couple
and
a
27
year
old
son.
All
of
us
are
typical,
somewhat
spoiled
Americans
who
often
stay
in
luxury
resorts
or
upscale
hotels,
and
yet
we
also
LOVE
and
seek
out
the
rare
&
"authentic"
places
in
the
world
like
little
Mana
Lagoon!
Three
meals
a
day
are
served
and
though
the
food
is
simple
and
basic,
the
helpings
are
generous.
If
you
come
here,
please
understand
that
EVERYTHING
has
to
be
brought
in
by
boat
and
there
may
be
times
when
something
you
normally
take
for
granted,
like
syrup
on
pancakes
or
jam
on
toast
just
isn't
available.
I
recommend
bringing
at
least
a
gallon
of
water
per
day
per
person.
(The
island
water
is
not
good
to
drink)
also
A
supply
of
your
favorite
snacks
to
share,
Strong
Sun
Screen
and
bug
repellent,
and
an
positive
attitude.
Bring
plenty
of
whatever
you
need
to
be
comfortable
and
leave
whatever
you
don't
use
with
the
locals
or
the
backpackers
who
will
be
genuinely
appreciative!
We
didn't
have
problems
with
mosquitos
but
the
sand
Flies
are
invisible
and
vicious.
Bring
Benadryl
or
the
antihistamine
if
you
get
allergic
rashes
from
bites
or
sun
exposure.
(mosquitos
may
also
be
seasonal)
We
did
not
have
a
problem
with
bed
bugs
but
I
always
travel
with
some
pump
spray
for
the
mattresses
just
in
case.
There
is
no
hot
water
per
se
but
most
of
the
time
the
outside
temp
calls
for
cold
showers
anyway.
By
late
afternoon
you'll
may
be
rewarded
with
a
sun
warmed
shower.
Bring
plenty
of
Fijian
Dollars
for
the
bar,
and
boat
trips
to
fish,
dive
or
snorkel.
There
is
no
credit
card
machine
or
ATM
or
market
that
I
know
of
on
the
island
and
the
nearest
one
is
a
$60
boat
ride
away.
Electricity
is
by
generator
and
is
only
on
dusk
til
dawn
and
you'll
need
an
adaptor
plug
to
charge
your
devices
though
there
is
no
wi-fi
which
is
wonderful!!!
Strangers
soon
become
friends
when
there
faces
aren't
buried
in
their
EDs
.
A
small
but
well
stocked
first
air
kit
is
a
good
idea.
One
last
note.
The
Village
located
behind
the
main
building
has
very
little
of
anything,
because
mainland
prices
are
high
and
island
wages
are
low.
The
locals
are
SO
VERY
Gracious,
Friendly
and
Kind
that
I
would
encourage
all
visitors
to
really
consider
packing
some
small
gifts
which
would
be
so
appreciated.
I
spent
$25
at
a
"Dollar
Store"
in
the
US
and
brought
small
sewing
kits,
carabiners
,
clothes
line
and
clips,
zip
ties,
nail
care
kits,
toothbrushes,
kids
card
games,
coloring
books,
colored
pencils
&
sharpeners.
The
Villagers
were
amazed
and
SOO
grateful.
Other
things
they
really
need,
include
literally
EVERYTHING
so
if
you
have
a
little
extra
space
bring
what
you
can,
but
skip
the
plastic
junk
that
will
break
easily
and
will
became
a
trash
problem.
The
only
remedy
for
trash
on
the
island
is
to
burn
it.
Para-cord
hammocks
were
an
oft
repeated
special
request
as
many
of
the
men
sleep
on
the
beach
sand
for
lack
of
a
bed.
I
found
some
online
for
$12.
but
shipping
prices
from
the
US
are
CRAZY.
Finally,
just
want
to
say
THANK
YOU
to
all
of
the
staff,
Geeten,
Giovani,
Vetti,
Valerie,
Bua,
John,
Felipe
and
all
the
rest
whose
names
Im
embarrassed
to
say
i
never
learned
to
pronounce
correctly.
