The stately entryway, dominated by a grand stairway, leads into the breathtakingly handsome library. Michelangelo's design, unharmed by a grafted-on alcove added later, is almost overwhelming. But instead of feeling miniaturized by the library's Titanic proportions, the effect is rather the opposite. You feel a part of the structure's majestic dignity. Sounds over the top, I know. But try it and see.

This place is a true marvel of Florence. But the work hours are totally ridiculous. This is, honestly, insulting to the tourists to be closed on weekends and be only open until 1.30p on weekdays.

This library is absolutely stunning, I really enjoy these older antique libraries. Italy is filled with lovely libraries like this, that house some of the greatest books, novels, manuscripts ever written. It’s always such a treat to see these gorgeous places and their amazing collections. The Laurentian Library is definitely one place you’ll want to visit. If you’re a book worm like me I would definitely recommend checking it out. Pay attention to when it’s open, because the hours are brief.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THE LIBRARY IS CLOSED MOST OF THE DAY. IT IS ONLY OPEN 10-13. THEY DON’T INFORM YOU WHEN YOU BUY THE TICKET. I ASKED AFTER IN THE TICKET OFFICE AND SHE POINT AT A SIGN WITH VERY SMALL LETTERS LEFT TO THE COUNTER.

Incredible. I'm an architect and I've been waiting to see this building for so long. Very. It's a very interesting and historic piece of art, and it's really well preserved. Don't miss it!

The Library is closed for restoration but there is no sign or anything explaining this until after you have paid to enter the Basilica. Very poor communication

Beautiful historic library with incredible original texts on display. Only $3.50 when you already bought a ticket to the basilica.

Michaelangelos library is CLOSED indefinitely. If I’d known this I would not have bought tickets. What’s more, the underground crypts are mostly shut off also for renovations. Was a sad waste of money. I also visited the cloister 20 years ago and the upper part is also now shut off :(
