The history and the heart of the Order of Saint John! Absolutely stunning cathedral! Definitely you won't want to miss it! The artwork is incredible! The audioguide will tell the story of the cathedral, believe me it is very exciting! Every chapel worth a separate tour! I love come there!

This is a beautiful baroque cathedral! Breathtaking. You can see some works of some the most renowned artists like Caravaggio. If you visit La Valletta you cannot miss it. If you'd like to purchase the ticket price is 28 €. There is also a ramp to enter, not just stairs.

One of the most amazing centers of art I’ve ever visited. The works of art are just incredible and breathtaking and so is that architecture of the place itself. The paintings are exquisite and they include one of the finest works of Caravaggio- “Saint Jerome Writing”, an amazing work of art very well included in the room that it is in, and the lighting pointing at it is very adequate for the painting. The details of the church is gold are stunning and the ceiling’s paintings are also incredible. Once you get inside to visit it, the staff gives you an audio guide in different languages to explain the story of everything that is inside of this church, so you really get to know the story of everything you’re looking at.

The cathedral is breathtaking - really a must visit in Valletta! Admission is a bit expensive at €15 for adults, but don't let this put you off. The art and architecture is fantastic and the audio guide that is included with admission gives a wonderful overview both of the cathedral's features and it's history. Would definitely recommend visiting!

Impressive, a must see in Valletta! But 15 Euro entrance? What are you doing with all that money? Sorry, but this is a bit much. You should donate some of the money to the other museums of Valletta, like the fine arts or archeological museum, because they are in a very bad condition.

(Translated by Google) The cathedral leaves an unforgettable experience. Pretty nondescript on the outside, and very beautiful inside. Admission for adults is 10 €, but it's worth it. Moreover, this price includes an audio guide, including in Russian. With an audio guide, a self-guided tour is very informative. It was very interesting. Definitely a visit!

Breathtaking, definitely worth the money just to say you’ve been. the audio tours take an hour, but you can skip to whatever sight you wish, but probably won’t need to stay more than about 45 minutes. the detailed artwork is extravagant and the caravaggio painting is incredible to see in person. tickets can be bought at the door so wouldn’t be concerned about booking in advance unless it’s a particularly busy tourist time. it’s also surrounded by a lovely restaurants and shops to poke around in afterwards to make a day out of it. would highly recommend

The cathedral is the only place that delights and tells the story of Malta. Really unique, with rich decorations, frescoes, paintings and sculptures. A unique and exceptional place that should be (for me) in the first place. Since August is absolutely drought all over Malta, the views are not very pleasing to the eye. The cathedral definitely pleases the eye, there is one downside, on Wednesday it is too hot, the whole crowd of visitors was wet like in a sauna, fans placed in many places did not cool. 1h hour, with automatic gid (in many languages).

An absolutely stunning building. It doesn't matter if you're religious or not, this place is just breathtaking. From sculptures and detail to Caravaggio's art work, there are so many things to look at and admire. As this is a place of worship, please make sure your shoulders are covered. No vests or strappy tops. However, shawls are available.

Stunning inside, simple on the outside. Very worth a visit! Entrance is 15 euros, audio guide included (kids under 12 free). Took about an hour to visit. The detail and artwork inside is incredible! Don’t miss this while in Malta!

St. John’s Cathedral is one top 3 highlights of Valletta and Malta for me. Impressive architecture and finishing. Lots of amazing paintings and sculptures. Great way to experience history. I loved the fact that there are audio guides made available for each visitor. The only original painting of Caravaggio with his own hand written signature is there. 😍

Very beautiful inside. The floor is amazing. It was crowded with people on a Monday morning. Not too big, less than an hour is enough for a visit. If you don't buy your tickets online you'll need to queue up for entering, so better buy tickets online. If your shoulders are visible they'll give you a sheet to cover them while you are in.

I'm not religious by any means, and only went here because it's a tourist attraction, but this place is truly as breathtaking as the pictures show. I think entry was c. €13-€15. They give you an audio guide if you would like to take one. Definitely a must see if you're in the area!

nice place, attractive and very interesting to learn history and admire a work of art, but you cannot pay 35 euros per person to see a church, it is something that I will never understand, it is not that the church invites people as if Was it the second house of Christians? because they charge such a price and they don't even offer you a glass of water to at least receive good attention, not even that. After the price of admission, it seems to me that the place is very good, but there are times that the price makes the most of it as well. I would like to return one day and be able to enter and if they charge, it should be a cheap “alms”. in the same way everything is expensive in malta it should be clarified

Get your ticket online and skip the line. A must visit if you are ever in Malta. Astonishing interiors from the floors to the ceilings not to mention Caravaggio’s master pieces. The audio guide is pretty good and informative. You also get to select what section you want to listen to, it also has pictures so you know you are listening to the right section. The tapestries are gorgeous and probably the 2nd best thing after Caravaggio paintings which both are in the same chamber/section.

Really gorgeous cathedral, filled with paintings and sculptures. €15 fee entrance seems a bit pricey, but at least it includes a self guided tour. The largest of Caravaggio's paintings was the highlight for me, fantastic masterpiece. You get given a set of headphones to listen to guides as you go through the different chambers and rooms.

An incredibly impressive cathedral. Every centimeter is a masterpiece, from the floor to the ceiling. Excellent audio guide. You must watch a short film about Caravaggio and climb the stairs - the balcony offers a unique view of the cathedral. Entrance 15e, worth every cent.

It was beautiful inside, with so much art and such amazing architecture. Also, you have to enter dress decently. This means covered shoulders and reasonably long bottoms. There are paintings by Caravaggio that are huge. Don’t forget to look up and down inside, as there is art EVERYWHERE. There is also a crypt and a prayer room. You can only go in the prayer room to pray, the energy is so strong and intense. You are only allowed in to pray, please don’t take any pictures of the praying room, that will mess it up. It was beautiful in this cathedral. Don't miss it when you come to malta.

a Roman Catholic co-cathedral in Valletta, Malta, dedicated to Saint John the Baptist. It was built by the Order of St. John between 1572 and 1577, having been commissioned by Grand Master Jean de la Cassière as the Conventual Church of Saint John. The church was designed by the Maltese architect Girolamo Cassar, who designed several of the more prominent buildings in Valletta. In the 17th century, its interior was redecorated in the Baroque style by Mattia Preti and other artists. The interior of the church is considered to be one of the finest examples of high Baroque architecture in Europe. St. John's Co-Cathedral is located in the centre of Valletta, and it is a short walk away from the bus terminus near City Gate. The main entrance of the cathedral is in St John's Square, but the visitors' entrance is from Great Siege Square in Republic Street, facing the Law Courts.[

We visited Valletta in the middle of summer, august. The city Valletta is very beautiful and charming. A train goes to aquarium, many attractive souvenir stands and off-the-cut performances. I was impressed of Caravaggio‘s artworks in Saint John’s co-cathedral. There’s more to this than meets the eye.

We are not religious but we appreciate the history and architecture of some churches and Cathedrals. The Cathedral in Valletta is the most spectacular one we have ever been in. It's absolutely stunning and well worth a visit. When you visit you must cover your shoulders and shawls are provided. There is a balcony which gives you an amazing view but there are 45 steps up to it. There is a charge for visitors.

Nice church, worth the visit and the €15 entrance. Audio guide is a bit outdated and long texts, but gives interesting information if you have the patience to listen. The Caravaggio room = amazing, same for the barrel ceiling! Women or people with visible shoulders have to wear a small piece of paper which is super useless and same for the reason being “out of respect” while there are dozens of tourists and it’s clearly made an attraction. But, worth the visit.

  • 5/5 Gianfranco S. 2 years ago on Google
The most beautiful church in Malta by far. Worth hearing mass here for a free entrance and to soak up the atmosphere particularly on special occasions.

When in Valletta, a visit to St. John's Co-Cathedral is an absolute must. Its interior is truly exceptional, featuring a painted ceiling by Mattia Preti and exquisite marble flooring, showing crests and emblems of knights buried in the Cathedral. The monuments dedicated to the Grandmaster of the Order of St. John are equally spectacular. Adjacent to the cathedral, the oratory showcases two remarkable paintings by Caravaggio, including 'The Beheading of St. John the Baptist' and 'St. Jerome'.

  • 5/5 Kat S. 7 months ago on Google
The one and only, Caravaggios most famous paintings are there. Perfectly organised audio guide service and we'll done the notes. The only thing needs an improvement, is a souvenir shop, which now is limited to two glass displays at the entrance.

Wonderfully preserved baroque Cathedral. An average audio guide is included in the price. Skip the line with an online ticket purchase. There can be too many visitors admitted at the same time. Good marks to the managers of the venue for setting up several fans that move the air around and keep visitors cool. Thanks.

  • 5/5 Ian Y. 2 years ago on Google
Gorgeous building with magnificent Baroque interiors and arts. Good and informative audio guide covering all areas of the Cathedral. Don't forget the short but excellent film made for the Caravaggio's painting and the stairs to the balcony so you could look at the main nave again from the top before leaving. The whole visit can easily take 1 to 2 hours or even more.

  • 5/5 Boris V. 1 year ago on Google
Nice looking cathedral, which is surrounded by many solid restaurants, bars and other places. The place is very crowded and is very hot during summer, so be sure to drink much water. There are many historic and tourist place nearby.

One of the must visit places in Malta. It’s one of the nicest cathedrals I have ever been and seen. Entrance is around 12€ for students. You don’t wait long for entrance. Inside is also one chapel dedicated to Caravaggio and his artwork is amazing.

  • 4/5 Ghayth O. 2 years ago on Google
Big church, with an amazing interior with lots of carvings, paintings, statues... etc The entrance fee is a bit high (15€) but worth it considering what's inside, especially the paintings by Caravaggio. The entrance fee includes a free audio guide, which is a little cumbersome and uncomfortable, and not very correct at times regarding timing what's on screen with what's being said. All in all, if you're a fan of what it has to offer you will love it.

Such a magnificent and impressive place. Don’t let the simple façade fool you. Such a great contrast from the outside architecture and inside decorations. The audio guide was also helpful. I would give 20 stars if I could. The church is mesmerizing. No description would be enough or fair to express such beauty. Art work in every detail. Impressive marble floors. Entrance is 15€ per adult that includes an audio guide and it is worth every cent. Fotos and videos are allowed (without camera's flash. Toilets inside. Closes at 16h45. Mandatory to visit!

  • 4/5 Harshit A. 11 months ago on Google
Went to church for the first time. It's one classic place with so much history. Good visit for all the history lovers out there. Tickets for adult are 15€ each and inside it's probably 15-30 minutes venture depending on your interest in the details of the Church. It had descriptive walls and the architecture which goes long back in 16th century. Inside, they provide you a device with headphones to guide you for the tour.

Please, don’t miss this incredible landmark. It make look sober from the exterior, but its wonderful golden baroque style interior is breathtaking. From the barrel vault ceiling to its intricate marble floors… this monument is just so unique. Let’s not fail to mention that Caravaggio’s « Beheading of St John the Baptist » is housed here, and no matter how many times you make have seen pictures of it, it won’t prepare you for seeing it with your own eyes in the same dark chapel where Caravaggio himself was expelled from the Order of Saint John of the Knights of Malta… such an incredible experience. Ticket 15 EUR, with audio guide included in many languages. Photos allowed but no flash ! Don’t miss this place !

(Translated by Google) It has a wonderful historical texture that I went to when I was little. I don't know if the historical symbol of the price of 3 ottomans for 1 maltali still exists. but as an island, it is an authentic country that should be visited and seen.
