Decided to go for romantic dinner with my partner, what a let down. Sadly, the experience & offering made very little impression at all. We booked a able to 18:30 hrs and arrived 10 minutes earlier. As the doors were opened we entered and waited for someone. 5 staffs were inside, all of them saw us waiting, the way they looked at us made us literally feel like we were not welcome! Not even one person came to say hi, check why we were there and offer at least a drink. I never ever in my life had such a rude experience like that. We decided to approach the staffs and we got the worst welcome ever! As it is a restaurant focused on seafood, we expected at least a menu that offered shrimp and lobster, but only 4 dishes were included in the menu including 6 oysters for £23!!! the menu was pretty poor and left a lot to be desired. ••About the food served: we choose a meaty fish dish, the food was served without delay and the quality was excellent: tasty, warm and nice look. However, given the poor service and value for money, I will never go back and do not recommend. I would have preferred to go to another simpler place where the employees are polite and friendly. Funny enough, they asked 12.5% tip, which we did not pay.

I visited the restaurant for the first time with my husband and I can say we had a marvellous night, the service was 10/10 and the food was absolutely stunning. We have been served by a lovely lady called Jessica, very professional and friendly, I'm pleased. I would like to back again during the day. I'm a happy customer so I'll recommend this beautiful restaurant.

Came here for a low key birthday meal, no reservation just turned up. Staff was polite, friendly and helpful. Food was superb, service was great and the atmosphere was good no complaints here. My partner slipped up and mentioned it was my birthday one member of staff brought out a plate that said happy birthday on it and she even sang happy birthday. Overall experience 10/10. Will definitely be returning in the future.

We had a pleasant dinner here for my partners’ birthday. The food was great, and staff were nice. To bring a birthday cake ourselves and have the staff bring it out and serve it would have been an extra charge per head, which is somewhat ridiculous considering you’ve bought the cake yourself. They close very early on Sundays, which isn’t a complaint or a bad thing but I think they would do well if open later!

Food was great - starter of scallops and crab cooked just right. Main of cod and skate wing - both done very well. Glass of English Riesling. One night accommodation plain and simple. Breakfast poached eggs and salmon with stunning view of the harbour, after a bracing walk on the Arm. What's not to like. Cocktails and knowledgeable bar staff an added bonus.

Fabulous fish, expertly cooked, served in outstanding location; literally on the harbour. Fish soup had astonishing depth of flavour. Very good service -high end but our waitress was sensitive to what we actually wanted which was to be left alone to enjoy the food and the view. Will definitely return - would like to try the mid week lunch set menu.

Every time we came to Folkstone, We try to book on the same day but always fully booked, this time we just walked in with luck, we have waited for table around 1.30 hours but it worth to wait. We ordered Cod and Plaice (1kg), the foods quite expensive but the quality and taste of foods were excellent! All fish dishes come with sauce they are slightly difference but all nice. The presentations were awesome. Services and atmosphere were fantastic even though they forgot to bring one of our side order, we did not noticed that until we finished the whole meal.

Great location overlooking the small harbour. The food was very good, we went for the Sunday roast, which sounds boring but it was perfect. Parking can be a problem, and we would advise booking ahead. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Some reviews have been a little negative but we enjoyed our experience and will return.

Amazing!! The View is perfect, calming and wonderful. We chose the place for this and not disappointed. Got a table while the sun setting so beautiful colours on the horizon. Staff were attentive and polite, and had a good sense of humour. The decor is tasteful and comfortable. Impressed with the bar choices 👌🏼 The food was deliscious. Cooked beautifully and great touches to enhance the elements of the dishes. We were so full from our main. Lovely sorbet choices. Definitely want to come back to try other dishes on the menu 😊

The food, the customer service amazing!! They served me the best gluten free bread I've ever had! Can get chilly on a winter night if sat near the glass doors leading to outdoor decking. Doors will be closed but you still get a draft coming in. Can get quite uncomfortable.

Had dinner and it was lovely. Very excellent starters of mussells and prawns and while my main (cod curly kale and shrimp butter) was great my husbands sea bass with parsnip something or other was absolutely amazing. Had a nice wine and a few cocktails and it was all lovely. Will certainly come back at some stage.

Really lovely restaurant - second time going there. Can't fault the food at all - super lovely. But our latest visit wasn't as great in terms of service. Long waits in between courses and very few waiting staff. Was a shame as its taken the shine off our past memories of the restaurant

Incredible local food, including lots of locally caught seafood, and lovely views across the harbour. Came for lunch so it wasn't too busy, and service was excellent. I ordered the trout with a side of creamy mash and it couldn't have been cooked better! Absolutely delicious, even the mash is to die for! Be sure to book ahead as it can be difficult to get a table, and check the menu for prices too if you're on a budget as it can get expensive quickly.

Centrally located with views of Folkestone harbour. Nice interiors and friendly stuff. The food however is very average although with a central London price tag. That said, nice and varied menu with seasonal specials.

Oh my gosh this place is amazing! Expensive, yes but well worth it and the staff are fantastic, very attentive. We had the 2 course set lunch menu then ordered off set menu for dessert and everything was incredible. Down to the flavoured butters & taramasalata they served with bread. We sat outside & were the only ones out there the whole time but we were not forgotten about. Staff came out regularly to check on us & top up our wine. Everything was served at a reasonable pace. We were just enjoying the view and sound of the sea beneath us. Highly recommend dining here.

Last night was our first visit to RockSalt for my wife's birthday. The food was very good, cocktails fantastic. Service was good, attentive without being on top of you. Unfortunately the restaurant decided to allow a very young couple into the restaurant just for drinks to which the young man (18/19 at best) became very loud, obnoxious, very drunk and swearing at the top of his voice. To the management of the restaurant, perhaps don't allow drinkers into the restaurant and perhaps don't allow them to order 10 drinks, between two people in one go.

Superb location on the harbour side. Bit on expensive side, 3 or 4 tiny scallops for £14, was not impressed with the turbot such a small piece, lots of bones. All cooked well. Very popular. Service was excellent. Been there but would not rush back.

The best restaurant in Folkestone. Romantic location, harbour view. Very friendly and attentive staff,. Go for fish, don't hesitate to ask, staff is ready for an extra mile, they will bring and show the fish chef is ready to cook for you. Enjoy!

Stayed in the rooms during a stay in Folkestone. The family room (Kittens) was well presented, but a bit small. We didn’t have our child so were able to spill out into the second room. Brilliant location, just by the harbour. Breakfast was included in the Rocksalt restaurant and this was delicious.

The food was divine as usual. Haddock fishcake starter was bigger than needed. Hubby chose scallops which were succulent. My husband and I shared the sea bream, which was served whole but deboned. So tasty. Dessert was the chocolate delice, blackcurrant sorbet and vanilla cream. It was a triumph of bitter richness. Truly a taste sensation. Bill £150 but money well spent.

Lovely setting, took my family for a meal as heard good things. One of the people serving was quite rude on a few occasions but the gent serving was always trying to help. We turned up 130 and it took over two hours to get the main course. So I guess they use to be good but not anymore. Wouldnt go again which is disappointing as I was going to use the venue for a massive family meal.

Fabulous restaurant on the harbour, modern, great service and the best view. upscale compared to many other places around. Lovely menu and staff are welcoming, open and international. The restaurant has also a small boutique hotel with very few bedrooms of quality nearby. Welcoming to couple as well as families. A great find. A fabulous gem.

Skate simply but well prepared . Starter of fish soup tasty. Wine uninspired and pricey. Excellent breakfast choice and all served in a superb location. The room was good value: warm, comfortable and had an outstanding view. Staff very attentive.

40th birthday dinner Lovely scenery and food was nice although very slow. We arrived at 7 and not had our main until 9 pm. My skirt was ruined by wooden chair that was damaged. Told waiter and his answer was 'sorry about that'... Not what I expected after spending £380 for 4 people dinner... Lady who dealt with booking took our number and said manager will call you tomorrow... I can see it is ruined... Guess what no call... very disappointing

We had booked Saturday dinner and also an overnight stay in one of the rooms. The room check in was quick and room all positive,. Food was delicious as was the ambience and location. We ordered wine unfortunately the wrong bottle was brought this was queried but changed quickly. When paying the bill 4 drinks were on the receipt we had not had, unfortunately we felt questioned in regards to this and asked if we had been on the balcony previously to being seated....we had not. The correct bill was finally brought and yes these things do happen but did reduce my rating only due to how we were made to feel. Brekkie was superb though.

Superb evening at Rocksalt! Beautiful food, beautiful setting, and superb service! A special mention to Rahman who served each plate with a warm smile and pride in what he was delivering, and the bar manager who kept us entertained and looked after until closing. Really great time, and highly recommended!

We had dinner at this seafood and highly rated restaurant. Whilst expensive it is great value. The dishes were all excellently cooked. I had a seafood platter that filled me up. The Sicilian white wine certainly helped us along. The staff were informal yet professional - impressive. The restaurant is right on the harbour.

Lovely location to sit and have a coffee looking out across the harbour. However we ordered 2 coffees snd 2 hot chocs. We waited absolutely ages even though they were quiet. When eventually the 2 coffees came they then told us they had no hot choc so we chose again snd then had to wait another 15 mins for those drinks to arrive. Shocking service. Coffees weren’t good anyway .

Excellent modern British food with a seafood focus. The dining room enjoys stellar harbour views, and the food is very good indeed. Prices are reasonable given the quality and service was excellent. Well worth visiting.

Another super dinner. Hosted clients. They loved it, we loved it. Sun was just going down, tide was out, beautiful evening. 9 of us sat down for dinner. Food was excellent and service was tip top, the waiters knew everything even what the art in the harbour was. We enjoyed the Gusbourne Bubbles and some lovely french wines. My thanks to all of the team that made it a night to remember.

Loved this place. We were lucky to sit outside where the views were lovely. The food was great. We had the 3 course set menu for lunch. The staff were attentive and lovely to interact with. Will definitely return.

Ordered a bottle of wine and some oysters as a starter in the bar area. Waited for quite a while for the waiter to come back over but when we did flag them down to order main course he told us they stop doing food in the bar area at 20:00 so we had to leave to continue our dinner. Expect better communication and service for the price.

Cocktails to die for and the view of the harbour from the restaurant over the glass balustrade. We hopped on the train to Folkestone for the afternoon and decided to have lunch at Rock Salt. It was delicious. We took a table on the terrace over looking the beach. We decided to go for starters with a couple of sides. First some wine then some fresh (warm) bread arrived with salted butter, delicious! Then smoked salmon and Rye Bay scallops with skin on fries and a green salad, everything was delicious! The toast that came with the salmon was too crunchy for me though, so the waiter offered (straight away) some more of their delicious bread, Perfect! For pudding we had the chocolate torte and strawberry meringue, both scrummy! Lovely service. A thoroughly enjoyable lunch. We shall return.

Had Sunday lunch and stayed in one of the rooms with breakfast. Food was excellent. Staff were lovely and good service. Great view over the harbour. Rooms were small but cosy and to a good standard. Recommend both the food and as a place to stay

Great restaurant. Food was delicious. Caring and attentive staff. Had breakfast too as we were staying in one of their rooms. We had a delicious English breakfast. Room was nice, although the bathroom put it down. Really small. When booking I paid an extra that said to be for room sea view and bathtub... which was obviously missing because of the inexisting space for it in the room.

Came for lunch on Sunday and was offered outdoor seating with views towards the harbour and beyond. Great service, relaxed atmosphere, and a people watching paradise. We had the beef roast which was melt in the mouth, and would highly recommend Rocksalt for a special occasion.

The food is simply amazing! The staff very professional and kind. Inside the whole length of the restaurant is in glass and you can dine (at lunch) looking the tide grow inside the bay. Fantastic! I came back and I can confirm again the great experience. The food delicious and amazing service, the staff always smiling and attentive. 🫶

My husband and I came to stay here in April for the first night of our honeymoon based on finding it on the Michelin Guide. The service from the start was lovely, the man checking us into the room was very nice and showed us all the way to our door. The room was very comfortable with a lovely shower room. The rooms were quaint but very comfy beds and a nice set up. Dinner was spectacular, with some of the best cooked sea bass I've had. Cocktails are a must - we recommend the Once Upon a Tide. Breakfast was also great with delicious smoked salmon avocado toast which was included with the room price. Folkstone itself was a bit dreary with lots of closed shops and sad vibes but the restaurant and rooms was a hidden gem with a beautiful view.

We went into the bar for lunch as we'd been before. My son and I had the flavoursome cheeseburgers (again) which you can see behind the Folkestone Brown Crab Tarte, which my wife had. We followed that with a couple of desserts. The presentation was a delight to look at and the tastes were amazing. We also chatted with the knowledgeable staff about other items on the menu, the drinks and a future visit to the actual restaurant, which is situated below the bar.

  • 4/5 Craig R. 1 year ago on Google
Probably the best located restaurant in the whole of Folkestone directly overlooking the Harbour. It's a stunningly modern building with lots of glass and an outside dining area. The food is excellent and of course it's mostly fresh fish and the service was equally as good. We had a couple of waiters and all of them were extremely friendly and polite and helpful. My only negative were the prices as I've eaten the same quality food in other restaurants and paid a lot less. There seems to be a a rising trend of of making you order sides extra and given the price of potatoes and vegetables I don't think it's justified but the setting is something else so overall its a great experience
