Great outdoor museum. Had a lot of fun and knowledge. It is self paced and has a good amount of things to see. Can spend a solid 1.5 hours here!

I really enjoyed this museum. I came to Hattiesburg on a day trip and saw that this was recommended on a travel site. I did not know that the Mississippi Armed Forces Museum was actually on base. Everyone was very pleasant and helpful. Even had a few jokes about my AL tag. Anyways, I learned a bunch from this museum. As crazy as our history is, I think if you are interested in the military and previous wars, this would be a great place to visit. If you can't stomach the brutal truth, then maybe you should check out something a little less honest.

If you haven't been here yet....you really ought to go! The museum is first rate! Its spacious and has so much to see. The outside grounds area has actual tanks and helicopters to see and explore. The staff was excellent and informative. And.....its free! Just amazing to have this great facility right here at Camp Shelby!!! Go!!!

Fantastic array of equipment in the outdoor areas. The equipment is quite diverse and has good, detailed data placards. It was kind of annoying that they had 16 parking spots for employees all right in front of the museum, but other than that it was a great visit. My favorite outdoor piece of equipment was the CH-54 Tarhe helicopter, aka “The Crane”, it’s only one of 105 ever made!

My husband and I visited the museum inside & outside today!!! Definitely give yourself a few hours if you like to read everything. VERY interesting and well done. It is a first class museum right in the middle of Camp Shelby. We were surprised at the scope of the the museum - War of 1812 to modern day era wars & conflicts. Lots to read but is balanced with authentic planes, tanks, props, & other paraphernalia.

Great museum of MS Military history located on Camp Shelby just south of Hattiesburg. Free entry and open to the general public. 100% ID check is in effect. Does not require military ID for entry.

This place was amazing. They did a really good job of not only telling the story of all the Mississippians who served throughout history, but also of how Camp Shelby itself has been an important part of our nation's defense. The exhibits were well designed, and who doesn't love real helicopters and tanks! And to top it off, it's free!

The best museum we have been to in a long while. Many military equipment is on display outside, various monuments are also displayed outside and the interior is set up from very early military campaigns through Desert Storm and Afghanistan. This is a definite go to museum for anyone.

Little gem of a museum, loads of hardware outside ,and lots of information inside, great staff. You have to check in at the visitor centre, to the right of main gate ,if your in to military stuff a must visit. Got to talk to director Tommy couldn't of been more helpful/informative. It's on an actual base which was amazing to see also. If your near by defo worth a visit.

Well kept. Great place to learn more about the wars and those from MS who fought in them.

This museum rivals those much bigger! Impressive exhibits and I love how most tie back to Mississippi's own historical figures. My favorite was the story of a champion (woman) welder. Vera Anderson was a beast Welder!

If you have never been to Camp Shelby and a civilian, you will need to check in at the visitor center (just to the right of the gate) with your DL. After that, ask the guard at the gate how to get to the museum and it’s very easy to locate. Well worth the drive. It is free to tour, but there is a place to leave a donation - which you should do. This was a great museum with so much to read and learn. I grew up in Mississippi and never knew about some of the events that took place in my state. My 12 y.o. boys enjoyed every square inch. It was very chilly inside, and a little jacket or sweater would be needed if you tend to be on the cold-side. Outside, we wandered and admired the vehicles. There was a small gift shop, too.

The exhibits are fascinating and well-arranged. Exhibits cover everything from the Revolutionary War to the Global War on Terror. The museum strives to be objective and inclusive in the best possible way. This museum is definitely worth a visit.

It was awesome! So much history and artifacts to see, including arms and uniform from the Mexican American War all of the way through the Middle East. A total audio/visual experience with life size dioramas complete with surround sound. The collection of American armor and army aircraft was astounding, plus a few pieces of Russian armor as well.

All the static displays were fun to look at and learn about. The museum was educational, well put together and definitely a so to make if you are headed to Camp Shelby.

Haven’t been to the museum but if you’ve ever gone through the South Gate, that old man there is a trip and has the most hilarious jokes I’ve ever heard. I’ve never heard jokes like that in my life. If you haven’t been to Camp Shelby he’s the main reason you need to go. He’s literally the only reason being on Camp Shelby makes it worth while.

First of all, we received a very friendly welcome at the visitor center. As a tip for tourists, before entering Base, turn right to the small house. The museum was very interestingly set up and military history was shown from Mississippi's perspective. You can view many great exhibits in the museum. I personally found the exhibition about prisoners of war in World War II very interesting. Thank you for the experience with you in the museum.
