Got there as soon as they opened. We're the only people sitting outside and are given the crappiest table outdoors by the very loud ac unit or something. Moved. Ordered a beer which came relatively quickly, warm beer. Was prepared to pay for what would have been a very pricey lunch with a salad and sandwich being shared (almost 20 each) never saw the waitress again. 40 min later walked inside to a quiet restaurant with lots of help milling about with my 1/2 drank warm beer, paid and left. Never again. Given this place way too many chances and they never fail to disappoint.

If you are looking for a restaurant that checks ALL the boxes, you must visit Duke’s!! This a restaurant where all members of your party can order easily. The vegans and vegetarians have real meal options opposed to just a salad at some places. Gluten free? No problem, plenty for you, too. This is a kid-friendly spot with a great outdoor patio and beautiful indoor seating. The staff is knowledgable and friendly and the menu boasts food from local sources, so not only does it taste good but it is better for the environment. What a gem in the heart of downtown Crystal Lake!!

I have been going to Dukes for years because of their vegan options. I’m always happy with my experience but last night was by far the best. My dad and I were out to dinner and our server Alyssa was amazing! She took extra time to discuss the vegan options with me and make sure everything was right. She was incredible!!

Nice design and atmosphere, very clean. Good service, the waitress was very nice. Different choices on the menu and not overwhelming. On the opposite side the fries were a little overcooked and they didn't have some things on the menu. I would also recommend explaining some of the sides and adding beverages on the menu.

Always a favorite of ours. Duke's has Excellent quality & flavor profiles to please the foodies. Excellent for guests that want to explore the area by train. Hop on hop of dining & drinks available throughout McHenry County.

This was a very unique and cute place. Fresh flowers on the tables and the service was excellent. The menus were where I had the most issues. I wasn't aware of what a lot of the stuff was on the menu (specifically the drink menu) so I just went with what I knew. The waiter actually let me get a taste of one of the ciders before ordering it, which I definitely appreciated. They pride themselves on serving local, grass fed beef and had organic and vegan items on the menu. I would say it was a bit pricey but the food wasn't bad. When we were finishing up, they had begun setting up for karaoke night and when we were paying, they turned off the lights and ended up playing music which was interesting lol. It is also attached to a bar but I am not sure if they are associated with each other.

The guest bartender Eli W stopped serving by 8:32pm after telling me when I'd arrived 20 minutes earlier that the bar closed at 9pm. No last call, just handed a receipt. Perhaps she believed I was drunk because I walk differently due to a disability, but I was sober and no concern was voiced. Enjoyed my single cocktail, the Bright Bite.

The togarashi fries was the best! My husband said that it was the best fries he had ever tasted! Wow! We also loved the steamed mussels, it was so delicious that we’ve ordered another one. I was excited to try their calamari but it wasn’t available that time. Bummer. Although not a lot of food to choose from the menu, all in all it was a great experience! Definitely we’ll be back!

The hostess was friendly, the server we had (he) even with nail polish on was one of the top 3 servers my wife and I had this year. ( going out at other establishments)He was articulate, polite and knew how to do his job! The ambience in Dukes was amazing, from the hard wood floors to the brick walls everything was was on point! Until they tossed out that menu on the table. What the heck are they thinking? How many times do you need to be told something is vegetarian? How many times do you need to be told it's gluten free? Do yourself a service bring that menu back to somewhat of a normal menu, normal food... normal choices and you will see Dukes come alive. I gave it a 5 star because of the employees and ambience.

Dukes is seriously a hidden gem in our town of Crystal Lake. Talk about upscale yet casual dinning for a fair price & they even have great beers on tap! Have been coming here for years now, never a dull experience. My personal favorites are: danger tots, tempura beans (yum!) Chipotle chicken pasta (favorite) dukes chicken sandwich & their bison burger. This place is so good i send a lot of my out of town customers here & have gotten nothing but positive feedback 😅

I like this place. They have a good atmosphere, nice staff, etc. The issue is the quality of the food has kinda gone down and the price to eat there is just outrageous. $20 on average for an adult meal. $8 for a small child. $3.50 extra for a kids apple juice. With tip, it cost my wife and I plus a 3 yr old $75 to eat LUNCH. Way too much. Plus, the food wasn’t anything to white home about. There are plenty of other quality spots to get a better burger for less. Do better Dukes. We will not be coming back anytime soon.

Over time, this place was at first great, then meh, then now back to very good! Beet salad was beautiful & delicious, not overpowering beet flavor. Other salads were delicious and freshly made. Cocktails are decent. Outdoor dining in summer on their enclosed deck gave this place the thumbs-up this time.

Cool looking joint. Came in during St. Patty's weekend and things were looking festive. Beer tap menu has a great selection of top beers. Extensive menu for food and apps that satisfy all diets from normal to veggie and vegan lifestyles. The Cajun chicken pasta is just the right amount of spicy because it is still very flavorful. Great place to bring a group for food and drinks.

Delicious! They were very accommodating and safe, made sure everyone was well taken care of. Sitting outside was definitely chilly, but we asked to turn on the heaters and they quickly did so. Wings are HOT but sooo good and the goat cheese salad was BOMB.

This place had always been a great place to eat. My colleague had the Duke'S burger with chipotle and bacon made from grass fed bison. My father in law had the chipotle chicken pasta with bits of chorizo! My wife had turkey sandwich with goat cheese and pesto. Very tasty. My bison burger was cooked perfectly and the Garlic fries are an always. If you like beer, this is the place to be. They have an enormous beer and mixed drink selectionas well. It's a little pricey, but you definitely get your moneys worth!

Easily my new favorite restaurant. Awesome beer selection, great service & staff, beautiful decor and just an overall awesome vibe. The food is the best in the area. I’m still thinking about the grilled romaine Caesar I had and the lovely deviled egg flight appetizer. We will be back soon. Major bonus, they take reservations!!

Very unique place… a hidden neighborhood gem 💎 …. The food was outstandingly fresh and the service was awesome….Try there BBQ or Buffalo wings too… sorry 😞 they were so gooood I didn’t have a chance to take a picture either 🤣!!! When you’re in Crystal Lake - check them out- especially after apple picking 😉

Great place for both vegan and meat eaters. The burger special is different every week and always has a great combination of toppings. We had the veggie burger last visit and enjoyed it. The salmon and the scallops with risotto are also on my favorites list. A great variety of beer gives lots of opportunity to sample a new brew.

My wife tried the Mac and cheese, and parmesan fries. The Mac and cheese was VERY GOOD, fries where what they said the were. I had the hot chicken sandwich which was mediocre with a side of togarshi fries.... The togarshi fries literally blew my mind!!! They were the star of the experience!! I will come back and try other dishes based on the fries alone!!!

We have always loved Duke’s. It’s a Crystal Lake institution. Whether it’s the food, or the drink- both always incredible…it’s also the people, music, art and community vibe we crave. Duke’s let’s us know “we belong” without fully saying it. Then ya throw in good food…come on. All are welcome. It’s brilliant, tasty, and beautiful at the same time.

Fresh, quality food. Always busy. Recommend making reservations otherwise just order for takeout and go down the street to Crystal lake brewing to eat…..sit down meals are delicious. Good service. Kind of loud inside. Bar area could be bigger but decent selection of brews.

Good place for lunch or dinner, they have really fun specials and use fresh local produce. I enjoy their wonderful teas. They also have craft beers. Outdoor dining is available when weather permits.

Came here at opening for lunch. Got the cheese curds, hot chicken sandwich, and the inferno tots. Wife got a burger and tots. The service was good and had a good atmosphere. The food on the other hand was very expensive for what you get. For $20+ a sandwich/burger I'd expect a good amount of food or a fantastic burger/sandwich. The food was okay. The cheese curds were good. The hot chicken sandwich was dry and thin. It lacked any spice and wasn't close to being hot. The inferno tots were also very mild seasoned and had no hot spice to them. Burger was good but expensive for what you get.

Great little spot. Lately I've been stopping by for an old fashioned or two and burger. There's always an attentive bartender around to make a good sweet old fashioned and the food is always great. Dinning in experience is also always positive. I've frequented Dukes often for the last two years and never had any issues. Service is always great and food has never let me down. They have a great menu. Plenty of healthy food options

  • 5/5 Mark J. 5 months ago on Google
Quite possibly the best cheese curds I’ve ever had. Light/flakey batter and delicious. Fun vibe! The dining room area looked super fun and cozy. If you’re in the area, stop in!

The food was good, although many spicy, hot entrees or sauces limited the selections for my sister-in-law and me. She said the menu was limited compared to previous years, but that seems to be true for many restaurants we frequent since the pandemic. I had the Duke's chicken sandwich and garlic parmesan fries, both delicious. I had a bite of my husband's tempura fish entree which also was very good. The hush puppies were too spicy for both of us. The server could have been more attentive. I am not aware of how many tables he was taking care of. We arrived at 4:15 and it was very busy by the time we left two hours later.

Went to see a local band here. The lucky pickers. The remodel is nice. A little to bright for me. But the service was amazing, band was amazing. I'll definitely be back again to try the food

I was genuinely impressed by Duke's. The atmosphere exudes an authentic all-American bar and restaurant vibe, and our waiter, Michael, was exceptionally courteous. 👍 The vegan tofu sandwich was a delightful surprise, boasting a distinctive umami flavor that left a lasting impression. While the seasonal veggies were decent, the inclusivity for vegans stood out — with a dedicated option for every course, from appetizers to dessert. I not only felt thoroughly included but, most importantly, left fully satisfied. Highly recommend the experience!

Duke's never disappoints! I hadn't been here in a few years and went back for lunch yesterday. Had the butternut squash curry and a cider donut beer- wow! The perfect fall flavors. Always a nice treat when I come to crystal lake.

  • 1/5 John R. 3 years ago on Google
Got there around 530pm, and was told that there were no tables available...for the entire night. That reservations had booked every table-for the entire night. Huh? There was one table inside that was offered (the one by the washrooms) which we passed. But there were plenty of tables with nobody sitting at them outside. Doesn’t seem right. Wound up going somewhere else and getting right in. Will have to be persuaded to return after tonight’s experience, which is a shame, as I believe in supporting local businesses.

Lovely outdoor seating and great food but very slow, especially given the 90 minute time limit. The music on the deck is too loud causing everyone to talk louder which has been shown to increase the spread of COVID. Looking forward to being able to try inside post- COVID.

This is my absolute favorite place to eat at when I'm in the area. I tried the cheese curds and they are the absolute best cheese curds I've ever had! Lots of vegetarian and vegan options and everything tastes delicious! Love the unique menu 😊

The best food and really good about our daughter's dairy allergy. One of the few takeout places I feel safe ordering food from for her.

  • 3/5 MJ L. 3 years ago on Google
Food was flavorful and pretty good. Service was slow; didn't get my beer until I had to ask again about it. Served my daughter 3-month expired apple juice. I would wonder what else might be expired there if you can't check inventory correctly.

  • 2/5 Linda B. 3 years ago on Google
Disappointing. Service was slow and not because they were busy. Appetizer was brought out burnt!! I refused it and no replacement was brought out. I was VERY disappointed. Food wasn't that good. Cesar salad and beet salad. 20% automatically added to bill. I would have tipped more if earned.

  • 5/5 Melissa S. 3 years ago on Google
One of my favorite places to get food locally. A lot of options for vegan food which is rare around here. I am obsessed with the Kimchi Sandwhich but it has been discontinued like many other foods during their coronavirus closure.

  • 5/5 Maggie F. 4 years ago on Google
Super cute outdoor area. Definitely suggested if the weather is nice. Service was very good. Cheese curds were great. Tried them with their orange chili marmalade! The fried goat cheese salad was amazing. So many cranberries! They definitely didn’t skimp on then which was nice to see. Would definitely try it with chicken next time. The Duke’s chicken sandwich was great. Yummy sauce and the pretzel bun was a good touch. I would for sure come here again!

Duke's is one of my favorite local places. I'm in love with their cheese curds and usually go for any of the rotating special dishes; they're innovative, delicious, and highlight local ingredients. Everyone here is beyond friendly, and I appreciate their carry-out options during the current stay-at-home situation. We can't wait to return when things are back to normal!

Always an enjoyable dining experience. Typically I opt for the delicious beet salad with added salmon, but there usually several distinctive burger options to meet ones appetite. Don’t sleep on the Duke’s Grain Bowl. The combination of flavors are assured to satisfy the most refined taste buds. Be sure to try the numerous thirst quenching ales.

  • 5/5 Karen K. 3 years ago on Google
First of all, our waiter Andrew was awesome. He had like 3 or 4 tables, which is typical, but this guy legit memorized our 6 tops entire order. Which means he memorized every one of his tables orders. Dude. Brain skills on point. Anyways, food took a bit longer, but all good things come to those who wait. Got a veggie burger and it was like making love to Lisa Bonnet. You should go here and make love to Lisa Bonnet.
