Amazing to see the fine old buildings at Römer in Frankfurt. When you enter the old town area, you are stepping into a time machine travelling to old time, medieval building, decorative architecture. Several restaurants and cafes are around and give you a fine look at all the different houses. It is a unique experience in Frankfurt. A place you have to see!!

Unser erster Besuch Ende Oktober 2023.

Perhaps it’s the most iconic spot of the city. A nice square between the Old Opera House and the Main river ferries. I go often bec of the eateries there. The many cafes are decent and one of them is my local friends’ favorite - they held their last three big one there - today we celebrated at their home with a dozen of close friends. … gone off the topic again Many couples got married at the old city hall.

Römerberg is the historic heart of Frankfurt, Germany. This charming square is surrounded by picturesque half-timbered houses, giving it a medieval ambiance. The iconic Römer building, Frankfurt's city hall for over 600 years, dominates the square with its distinctive stepped gables. Römerberg is not only a historic and architectural gem but also a vibrant hub with open-air markets, cultural events, and traditional festivals. It serves as a popular gathering place for both locals and visitors, offering a glimpse into Frankfurt's rich history and providing a delightful backdrop for leisurely strolls and exploration.

Definitely one of the spot to visit. So lucky to bump into the Christmas market in the area. Plenty of food and beverage at the market and the environment is lively. Easy access by public transport, walking distance to other nearby tourist spot and shopping district.

Frankfurter Römer, the historic city hall of Frankfurt, is a cultural and architectural gem that serves as the symbolic heart of the city. This iconic building, with its distinctive stepped facade and three gables, stands proudly in the historic Altstadt (Old Town) and has been a witness to centuries of Frankfurt's history. The Römer's significance is not only architectural but also cultural, as it has been the site of various important events and ceremonies throughout the years. The Kaisersaal (Emperor's Hall) inside is a lavish space adorned with medieval and Renaissance artifacts, providing a glimpse into the city's past. Surrounded by quaint half-timbered houses and charming squares, the Frankfurter Römer is a focal point for both locals and visitors. The square in front of the Römer hosts public events, markets, and festivals, creating a lively atmosphere. The building's photogenic allure is enhanced by its role as the backdrop for numerous celebrations, including the city's annual Christmas market. A visit to the Frankfurter Römer is a journey through time, where the historic and contemporary elements of Frankfurt seamlessly converge. Its enduring charm makes it a must-see destination for those exploring the rich tapestry of Frankfurt's cultural heritage.

Sehr attraktive Innenstadt mit vielen kleinen Gässchen. Die alten Gebäude sind sehr beeindruckend. Haben allerdings einen Regentag erwischt.

This place is a must-visit if you're touring Frankfurt! It's completely free to visit this area and check out the buildings. There are a few shops and restaurants in the area. It's a bit smaller than I'd imagined - you don't have to worry about spending too much time here. I visited on a Sunday morning and had the entire area to myself!

The beautiful and picturesque old town is a must visit when in Frankfurt! Amazing half-timbered buildings that were once completely destroyed by Allied powers’ bombings during WWII, now rebuilt to their full glory! Drink your coffee or beer in one of the numerous cafes and beer houses on the square, admire the architecture, take photos and travel back in time with your imagination! 100% recommended!

Well, this is why you’re in Frankfurt right fellow traveler? This is it! This is what you saw in google. Only a lot bigger and a lot more majestic! The old German rustic feeling is second to none once you step in the middle of the plaza watching some musicians play. Of course, the annoying chinese falun dafa is ruining the whole setting but pretend they don’t exist. You’re taken back a hundred years ago when life was simple and the architectures are not so much modern. Feast your eyes in this history rich plaza where Germany has defended this place for several decades.

Nice place to walk through if you’re in Frankfurt. There are lots of cafés and restaurants around also ice cream parlors. If you walk up towards the Dom you will we the”new” old town. From here you can also walk to the Main river. There is usually a Christmas market there but it was canceled due to COVID so they still put up a Christmas tree.

The heart of Frankfurt old town! This historic place is very picturesque and every photo you make look like postcard. Buildings have their history and you can read about them before the visit. In the afternoon this place can be very overcrowded.

A lovely market square and the most important landmark of Frankfurt. It has plenty of souvenir shops, cafes, restaurants and important historical monuments and structures to admire. It is a busy place on weekends with plenty of visitors. While you are there, you can visit the St. Nikolous church, History museum etc.

It's one of the best if not the best town squares I've ever visited in Germany. A lot of cafés around to sit around and enjoy the old town square in it's full glory. If you want to avoid the crowd, visit it early in the morning to click a beautiful panorama.

One of the most recognisable squares in Germany, the stepped gable facades of the Römer mixed with the half-timberes houses are like a cling film that insulates the old town quarter keeping it forever the same way no matter how time passed. From the main train and coach stations in the city centre, the most direct route is about 20 minutes on foot. I will recommend everyone to walk along the River Main that is car free and have a better view of the city skyline. En-route you will also meet two pedestrianised footbridges over the river, the Holbeinsteg and the Eiserner Steg (the Iron Bridge). Standing in the latter you can have a 360 degrees view of the old and new building skyline of Frankfurt.

One of the beautiful old town squares in Germany. It's really convenient to visit the places by tram. There's many restaurants to eat and enjoy the place. Main river is very close from the old town.

Amazing reconstruction of the old German traditional town after it was bombed by the allies during 1944. Stunning architecture, traditional, cultured and quite beautifully ornate. Cafe culture abounds here so grab a seat and watch the world go by. Some buildings have the gingerbread house feel to them, but feel so authentic it is hard to perhaps tell the difference from the original buildings. Bravo Frankfurt!

Suuuuper cute little city center, unfortunately most areas were blocked off since they were setting up for a Christmas market opening the day after we left the city. Still was able to see a lot, just not many clean pictures.

Like the "new old city" (in german: neue altstadt), which is nearby. A good restaurant is missing. But the atmosphere is great. The picture shows the römer, where big events take place. Such as the German soccer team to celebrate or also festivals like karneval, christmas Market.

Warm atmosphere. Very cozy and nice to visit. A little bit crowded on weekends, but still lovely to see. The food, handmade ornaments and gifts are awesome. Frankfurt's Christmas market is a festive extravaganza that captures the spirit of the season with its enchanting ambiance and diverse offerings. Nestled in the heart of the city, the market boasts a picturesque setting, surrounded by historic buildings and adorned with twinkling lights that create a magical atmosphere. Strolling through the market, one is greeted by the inviting aroma of mulled wine and roasted chestnuts, creating a sensory delight. The traditional wooden stalls showcase a myriad of handcrafted ornaments, festive trinkets, and local delicacies, offering a perfect blend of tradition and holiday cheer. The centerpiece, a towering Christmas tree adorned with sparkling lights, serves as a focal point for joyous gatherings. Musical performances and lively entertainment further enhance the festive experience, bringing warmth and merriment to visitors of all ages. What sets Frankfurt's Christmas market apart is its commitment to authenticity, with a focus on regional craftsmanship and culinary delights. From intricately carved wooden decorations to delectable gingerbread treats, every corner of the market exudes a genuine festive spirit. In summary, Frankfurt's Christmas market is a captivating celebration that immerses visitors in the joy of the season, making it a must-visit destination for those seeking a magical holiday experience.

Stunning historical structures, main square of Frankfurt and city hall. It was too crowded when I visited there but you can take a tourist picture in front of the buildings, buy magnets etc.from souvenir shops and also grab a beer and walk the streets or lots of authentic cafes to stop by. There are also another charming old buildings like old opera and frankfurt cathedral nearby. It was such a great spot!

  • 3/5 Asami 6 months ago on Google
Too crowded for what it’s worth Nothing exceptional about it as you could find cooler and older buildings elsewhere. What’s going for it is how nicely similar they re-did the whole housing situation.

This is my favourite spot in Frankfurt. The beautiful architecture, colours of the buildings and the atmosphere was absolutely stunning.

  • 4/5 Iz 1 year ago on Google
Its nice - the only thing to see in frankfurt really, although none of it’s original of course - the entire city burnt down during the war. I guess that’s why there’s about 5 tourists in the entire city. Anyways, if you are visiting there’s like 1 tourist shop and a few cafes to outside in. The little church is super plain inside and not really worth going in
