Wow! When I say this is quite the museum for the communication/technology nerd. I mean it. All descriptions around the museum are available in English as well as German. In addition to the vast amount of artifacts on display from the age of stone tablets to the smart phone era, they have authentic real working machines that they are happy to demonstrate is you ask. For example, they have a mail sorting machine, a rotary/dial telephone exchange that you can actually witness the mechanics of for each number you dial, and even a simple hand crank phone system. Highly recommended you come here with a friend because many of the interactive exhibits, believe it or not, are meant to demonstrate communication between 2 or more parties! But that said I came alone and still had a ton of fun. Only thing I noticed missing was any details on pneumatic tube systems? A miss for the museum? or more likely I missed it in the incredible vastness of the exhibits?

A very interesting museum with great exhibitions about communication technology. There are plenty of interactive exhibits and all the sings are both in German and English. The museum has a cozy little café and a decent souvenir shop.

Museum with a mid to large floor plan devided unto several floors. It's interesting and interactive with good historical content which seeks to be engaging. Great place for the kids, although the wee ones under 5 or 4 might not appreciate the walking vs content available to them. Still a great place to spend a couple of hours with the kids or as an adult even longer if you are interested nd take the time to get into the content and it's presentation. A cafe although by no means a full restaurant, you should make plans for lunch before or after.

outside the building there is a horse sculpture painted in green and, everything on the horse ... the inside of the building is the same ... I did not regret that I went, but I did not stay for long. Rather, they show the development of communication technology ... the circulation arrangement inside the museum is very poor. The design of the imitation Rosetta stone is beautiful.

So much information. This was a fantastic museum. If there is a way or method to transmit a message, there is an example in that museum. Absolutely fantastic!

One of the best museums around. We underestimated the place, thinking we can go through in an hour, but it turned out there are so many interesting exhibits that one can easily spend half a day here and not even notice. A lot of interactive items and a very pleasant staff, will definitely visit again. The temporary exhibitions we caught were absolutely stunning as well, overall a great experience!

A complete and highly lectured museum, with much more time than planned. The exhibits are informative but often with a playful twist that eases the desire to learn. Perfect and good for all ages. What a wonderful experience! I must've spent about 5.5hrs here, predominantly in their main exhibition. 6 Euros entry, but they can't take foreign credit cards (?) so cash required. Audio guide is free to download and there is WiFi, but it misses a lot of the modules and all the information is in the German and English text. The vast majority of text has been translated, but not much of the audio displays. There is so much here on the postal service, radios, telegrams, telephones, TV, propaganda, music, cryptography. So so much, it was such an educational and interesting day out. I can't seem to add photos, but if I could have, there would have been one of the interactive switchboard display!

Good for all ages. Reminding old days for adults while having playful experiences for children. It will take 1.5 to 2.5 hours to see all the things.

The museum has exhibits on communication including mail, books, telegraph, telephone, radio, television and computer etc. The exhibits were really interesting. The management has tried hard to make the exhibits both informative and entertaining. You can sense the vibrancy. The first floor has a children's area which is a nice touch It was a festival weekend when I visited and the museum had face painting for young children in the courtyard. Later on they had dance music playing and there were teenagers and young adults (just ordinary people) performing choreographed dances in the courtyard. So the museum is trying hard to reach out to young people. It is a great place to visit.

Frankfurt’s Museum Row is one of the saving graces of this fairly blah small city. The location in Old Sachsenhausen is also a plus along the Main river.

A very nicely designed museum with a mix of fixed and changing exhibitions. We went with kids from 9-13 of age and they enjoyed the interactive installations. The staff was very engaging and kind. Would highly recommend this.

Interesting place with a lot of stuff to touch/interact with. In the end, we even had a chance to go to the roof and speak with a man who collects old radio-stuff, he told about lots of historical details. (And all of that in English!)

An absolutely fantastic collection of different communications technologies. The layout of the museum encourages you to wander around and explore different displays, with friendly and helpful staff nearby to assist with demonstrations. While not terribly large, it is still packed with exhibits in an open space which does not make it feel cluttered. Plus it has electric sheep. Maybe this is where androids go when they dream.

unfortunately, the exposition is pretty poor. it is just one floor, big enough, but without any guide how to go between these all things. it was quite unusual personally for me. and due to high level of noise, I can suppose, that children like this museum

A very well designed, wholesome, and interesting museum. Communication’s history is superbly described and post historic vehicles are shown and very well maintained. Staff was so helpful sans kind. A must to go if you want to spend some time with your children or with partner or friends!

The Museum of Communication is not very big, but as with other German museums, the permanent exhibition covers all the basics and then more. Plus you have the temporary, thematic exhibitions. The museum is interesting, interactive, fun! Great for kids and grown ups as well. I can also recommend the museum café: they have great coffee and cakes (as well as lots of other delicacies).

  • 5/5 Vita M. 1 year ago on Google
Very interesting place, especially for the children between 6 to 12 - they can enjoy playing with old style mini phone station calling from one stationary phone to another one or even to the one in the phone boothe. There are cafe and the children play zone on the 2nd floor also. Variety of the "first" generation stationary phones, TV's, vinyl players and radio's, old type of the post delivery cars. Again, the only disadvantage - all labels and explanation board on German only. 😃

  • 5/5 Sarthak L. 1 year ago on Google
A nice experience visiting this place. Carefully curated and well preserved in a non chronological order. (The lady on floor who gave me the introduction of the exhibition told it is laid randomly in a non chronological order. I was initially confused, thinking why? This must be a perfect thing to lay in a chronological order, but after my full tour, it was beyond my understanding how this could have been done in a chronologically order) Most of the descriptive data sets both text and audio were presented in German and English both. I opened my Google lens app only 4 to 5 times for translating some specific text in an image only. It was very disturbing to know how tech was used in some period of the holocaust for record keeping, also were disturbing the telegrams and other records from the titanic. History of laying of undersea communication cables, getting to see the cross section of different cables was very intresting as well. The glossy polished well restored wooden tv sets and the working analogue telephone exchange were another highlight. the list might not end for a history person like me. Not at all overpriced. Some things like the mail sorter were under maintenance which would have been great to see in working. a few audio descriptions were non working as well. overall a good place to invest a minimum of 3.5 to 4 hours to increase your knowledge about the history of communication.

Oh wow I loved it, there are loads of museums that could take lessons for these guys in terms of design, layout and experience. It is spacious, educational, fun for kids and adults, staff are amazing and it's a good afternoon out. Remember though that Frankfurt is still a very cash based city so if you want anything from the shop you need cash. One other top tip is the 2 day museum pass it gets you access here and a range of other museums (it can be bought on site)
