UPDATE: I got an ominously worded email from Google Reviews which said that the restaurant was attempting to have my review taken down. Thankfully I was able to contest this as I still have my receipt of purchase (from over 3 years ago no less), but this is really unpleasant and the email was certainly not the sort of thing I like to get in my inbox, or deal with. Customers should be allowed to leave their own honest reviews of their experiences. I'm honestly appalled and I am reducing my review from 3 stars to 1 star. -- I ordered the paella as a takeaway, which was delicious but also grossly overpriced for what was offered. For over 30 euros I can think of many many things I could buy, and with more variety. Maybe their in-shop offers are better value.

The cocktails are great and reasonably priced for the old town. The meatballs were a bit dry and the mushrooms were too oily.

Very good shrimp paella and the owner was super nice. We will definitely go back if we are in the neighbourhood again.

The most underated restuarant in Heidelberg This should be the first place recommended on trip advisor. Placed at the edge of the old town bridge, this restuarant is very non descript and can be missed easily, but do yourself a favour and step inside. The staff is helpful and super friendly. And just when you impressed with the great reception, you can kick off with a cocktail that is second to none with a tapas spread of exceptional flavours. We went back for the paella the next day. BTW...the wine selection is awesome!!!!

PAY CASH. We did visit the restaurant at the end of May. Decent food, nice location. However, when paying after our first there was supposedly an issue with the point of sales machine and they made us pay on a second machine. We realised we were double charged and informed the owner accordingly. To make the story short, they said they would reimburse the money but instead there was a mess of several transactions on my account. After more than a month exchanging emails with the owner I still did not get my money back. I am now giving up and putting this review to make anyone visiting this place aware of the risk . Do not forget to PAY CASH! if not you run the risk of leaving a huge tip against your will.

Highly recommended. The service and the taste of the food was absolutely awesome. Specially the service is highly friendly and attentive. All of them speak English. There are many small dishes to choose from and everything tastes awesome. We did order stuffed mushrooms and garlic mushrooms. The prawns were really good too. The ambience is good with the river side facing. The cocktails were good, I would recommend Gin basil for trying. Overall an awesome place to spend an evening with family and friends.

Nice atmosphere but the tapas were not particularly tasty. It felt like most of the things were frozen before and they just did not feel very fresh. Not what one expects for the price

Food good. Staff lovely, very helpful. Attentive without being pushy. Mixed crowd of young & old, some in for a bite and a glass of wine, some in for the evening. Good vibes.

My wife and I visited Der kleine Spanier recently and had Taps. They were all excellent. Good selection, great service, high quality; we enjoyed our meal. Even better, we visited this restaurant last summer and had the time to wait for Paella (after some excellent bread, olives and drinks). This was the best Paella I have had in Europe. Paella takes time and it’s well worth the wait. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Germany.

Excellent food and location. Sadly staff is not that attentive anymore and lacks training to make up for slightly upper dining.

Der kleine Spanier translates to "the little Spanish". But it is anything but little at this best located Spanish tapas restaurant in Heidelberg! Located right by the iconic "Old Bridge" and the Neckar River in the Alstadt (old city). I have regularly taken visiting guests here to dine as the food, sangria, wine selection, ambience and location meets all expectations of dining out at this romantic and gorgeous city. During Summer, do book their outdoor tables by the bridge, or if you like indoor dining, tables at the entrance level by the windows are best. Reservations are recommended!

Well I had the best tapas in this restaurant since my trip to San Sebastian and that place is hard to top! Super service and utterly scrumptious food. Only 1 little gripe. As my jacket got a downpour of sangria and it now has to be cleaned....it would have been nice if the cortado was on the house😊.

Delicious 😋 food and Mula drink 🍷 but the portions are too small for the price

Really tasty tapas! We're only here for a few days and found this great tapas restaurant by accident. Best tapas we've had in a long time! The homemade lemonade was delicious on a very hot day. Yum!

Located in closer to the old bridge, lovely place to hangout! Some staffs are little rude otherwise nice beers with expensive but delicious 🤤 food

We had a selection of Tapas and some good wine here. The atmosphere is also really nice next to the old bridge and worth a visit if you're looking for something other than German Cuisine!

Unfortunately, I and my husband did not have a good experience at this place since we waited about 90 minutes for our food to be served. On top of that, the Paella was watery. The way how food serving was organized is very poor. P.S. The review does not apply to very welcoming and friendly waitresses who work at this place.

The food is super delicious and the good thing is that they didn’t change the prices in these 7 months. The service is also super good. They are the best. I highly recommend the restaurant :)

The location is ideal, best location in Heidelberg if you take a seat on the bridge. The food is tasty. The service are very friendly. Overall a must if you visit Heidelberg.
