We stopped in for lunch on a Monday and they were surprisingly busy, but we were able to get a table right away. The bartender, Josh, took care of us and was great. We started with the mozzarella sticks that were excellent. They had an extra touch with some toppings. The south western wrap, Buffalo wrap, and shrimp BLT with the shrimp on the side were all excellent. We loved the addition side options with the sandwiches. I had the chili which had sausage and shredded chicken and all sorts of other goodies that made it great.

Good food, friendly staff. Stopped by today for lunch. Sunken Well Tavern is a small, refreshingly unpretentious restaurant in a neighborhood in downtown Fredericksburg. So it was easy to swing by there after going to the farmer's market downtown. Our server was very friendly, prompt and attentive. We ordered Chorizo Shrimp and Grits and for myself, a salad with smoked salmon and Brussel sprouts on top of fresh greens. They have a very diverse menu. They clearly put a lot of thought and effort into their food...it's delicious. The atmosphere is friendly and casual. Will definitely go there again.

Amazing flavors! We were ravenous and ordered a lot of food—wondered if we’d be able to finish. Well, we polished it off. You can tell that the ingredients are farm fresh and high-quality. The meat was succulent and so well-seasoned! Even a seemingly simple dish like Brussels sprouts with goat cheese had layers of hot and sweet delicious flavors. The burgers were juicy and the tacos were so good and spicy. The shank bowl was to die for—Asian flavors. Loved every bite! It was Saturday evening and they were busy but service was still great. This is definitely the place to go to if you’re in Fredericksburg. Even just thinking about that meal is making me hungry again! :)

I look forward to more great food here in the future. It's not easy to find and the parking situation isn't necessarily the most convenient, but the Honey Habanero Brussel Sprouts are worth the hassle! Drinks are plentiful and steak fries are wonderful. The artwork is great and the live music was an experience! I only wish there was more room!

The Sunken Well has hands down the best burger in the’Burg. The menu is varied but I can’t help but get the dirty burger every time and I’m never disappointed. The burger is cooked to perfection. Thick and juicy. The chili is awesome (delicious on its own) and the onion rings are crispy and delicious. (Best I’ve had also) The wait staff is always friendly. I ride my motorcycle all over the state looking for great burgers and this one is my all time favorites.

Great small town local eatery! The food was great quality at a reasonable price for downtown. I got the Chicken Sesame Salad and it had great taste and presentation. It is a small place, so not ideal for those who aren't comfortable being close with others. I did see that they brought out a coloring book and crayons for a child in another party. The onion rings are fantastic here!

We had our dog with us and wanted a dog-friendly place. While Sunken Well has a nice outdoor garden-style area, it had just rained. Luckily, they had two tables out front under their awning. Folks were nice, service was attentive, food was totally amazing. I had a huge cheese burger and really stellar onion rings. We started with kom pau brussel sprouts, YUM. We also had the crispy chicken salad, another hit! The Sunken Wall is in a neighborhood near Mary Washington University.

We came here on a Monday evening with a desire for burgers and we were not disappointed!! My wife had the BBQ burger and I had the dirty burger. Just awesome flavor and cooked exactly to how we requested. Onion rings were outstanding on their own. Good selection of drinks as well. We had a great time and it was a brief walk from downtown.

First time trying this place with the family and overall more like a 4.5 star experience. Service was very fast and attentive. We tried a cheese quesedilla, summer veggies hash, burger with fries, and crab cake sandwich with a tomato soup. Hash was very tasty but a little oily and the avocado that came with it was not ripe. Burger was good but the fries were a little too oily. Crab cake was good but it was missing some type of remoulade. Tomato soup was delicious.

This place is awsome! They make everything in house. They have homemade pickles and bread. The service is friendly but a bit slow on a Sunday morning, but if you have the time, the food absolutely rocks. They also have tons of local paintings that you can buy if you want to support local artists. Nice selection of draft beers and great sandwiches. Would def recommend if you have plenty of time to spare.

Do yourself a favor. If you’re in Fredericksburg and want to have a great meal, check this place out. Sunken Well never disappoints. I tell friends from out of town (and in town) that there are tons of great places to eat in the ‘burg, but the best food is at Sunken Well. Period. I came in for lunch and had their burger and it was sublime. Service was fantastic, per usual.

My roommate and I stopped by here on a whim not knowing anything about the place...Oh boy did we stumble upon a local treasure. Sunken Well Tavern is probably one of the BEST restaurants in town. The food was delicious, the wait staff were all very pleasant, and the restaurant itself is very cozy and clean. I also thoroughly enjoyed the funny decorations hanging on the walls, bonus points for creativity. However, the best part of our visit to the Sunken Well Tavern was the incredible live music. I didn't get the name of the band, but they were singing bluegrass the way it was meant to be sung! I will definitely be bringing my family here sometime to enjoy this hidden treasure in town.

First time coming here after hearing good things and wow, Very impressed! I had the eggs on jersey with Taylor ham! (Can’t usually find in VA) and my boyfriend got the country fried steak. Then we had to try the soup of the day Cajun chowder (which is pictured after we already ate some. ) I’m absolutely coming back and bringing people! Brandon was our waiter and he was awesome!

I can not begin to tell you how delicious the food was. We chose Sunday brunch, but I am sure the rest of the menu is just as good. Can sit inside her outside during good weather. Crabcakes Benedict and Salmon bagel with poached egg. So fresh. The people that worked here were all happy. Ask for Darby. She is a spitfire as a waitress! The hostess was pleasant. The server from the kitchen was pleasant. Just darling. Love the mom and pop "dive" atmosphere ( Dive in a good way like Guy Fieri) highly highly recommend. Full bar. Breakfast lunch and dinner menu

Bar/Food/Service all top notch. Ate there for brunch 1/1/24 and thoroughly enjoyed our morning. The menu ranges from the good old standards, to innovative specials, and elevated ingredients. Pricing is more than fair for the portions they serve, and there's no "downtown extra costs" b/c it's location. Service and bar are fast, friendly, and personable. Very happy we spent New Year's Day here. Highly recommended.

Today we enjoyed brunch at The Sunken Well Tavern . It was absolutely delightful! How have I lived so many years in Fredericksburg and never tried this place? Hubs got the breakfast Cuban, which I stole several bites of.😉 I ordered their sweet potato and andouille hash. It was so friggin delicious that I'm already trying to get my hubby to go back there tonight for dinner!

I took my friends from out of town here for dinner because I enjoyed brunch, so assumed dinner should be good too. I hope this review isn’t seen as offensive but rather feedback to improve service and operations. bringing us here for dinner was a mistake (although a lesson for the future) that was slightly embarrassing. The chicken was over seasoned, mashed potatoes watered down, and burger fell apart with the sogginess and lacking taste. The lettuce from the salad were the yellow part, no green…We asked for fries, even discussing them prior to deciding to set on them for our side but were given another side instead (onion rings). They were extra greasy and tasteless. We asked for the sides we actually selected but were much later advised the frier didn’t work (after we were well over ready to ask for the check). I think communication could have been better prior to providing us the onion rings, as it was a hit obvious it was known it wasn’t an option. Overall, it was disappointing. Maybe it was just a one time negative experience but each interaction is important—it wasn’t just one mistake but several. I’ll try this place again at some point, just not any time soon.

Service was great but the food came out cold and wrong...we waited...then it came back piping hot but still wrong. After 45 mins from actual order time (not including sitting down, ordering drinks, and looking at the menu) we finally got the remaining 2 orders (of 4) edible and correct. The other 2 had already finished their meals at that point. It was frustrating to say the least but our server was polite and friendly the entire time. I may give this place another shot some day to improve on the 2-Star rating because the food, once it finally arrived warm and accurate, actuality tasted pretty good. Our friends who go there regularly say that it was an off-day for the kitchen, but my experience for it being the 1st time was definitely not optimal, especially for it being on the pricey side for breakfast/brunch foods.

We went for Saturday morning brunch, and everything was delicious. I had a biscuit and gravy plate that came with eggs and a cheesy potato hash that was delicious. My only complaint was that the biscuit was a little dry and could have used a bit more gravy. My husband ordered an omelet that was on point. All the ingredients tasted super fresh, and the cheese in it was extra tasty. The server was friendly and offered quick service. We will definitely return!

Was very good! A small buisness with homemade food, a bit on the pricey side but still good. There was also a slightly hard time to figure out where to come in due to the front door not being available to use. Overall still makes you feel like home!

Definitely worth going out of your way to visit while in Fredericksburg! Came in for lunch while on a mini-vacation and was suggested to try their corned beef hash. Waaay better than the canned stuff, and perfectly seasoned 👌🏾 Service was also great and they have a strong selection of craft beers

Welcoming spot for a great breakfast or brunch on a Saturday or any morning. Service was outstanding from start to finish for our party of six. Great menu selection. The Creole Salmon Cake Benedict was on point with a perfectly cooked poached egg. Shrimp & Grits were delicious and rivaled the best low country offering. Biscuits and Gravy received top review from discriminating B&G expert. Crescent Breakfast Sandwich looked great and the French Toast was reported to be outstanding. Add this to your downtown Fredericksburg dining plans. Will definitely be back.

Service was good food was okay. Some items weren't available on menu and not super flavorful. Based on reviews I expected the food to be more tasty.
