Parked at the visitor center. That's a short trail out to the marsh lands with a few information signs and a bench. Saw some pretty birds. Most interesting things were the big pretty snails sunbathing on stalks of grass. They look so cool! There's 0 shade. Wear a hat.

Gorgeous location for sunset photography and general viewing pleasure. Miles and miles of stunning panoramic views of the bay, baylands, mountains, and skyline (extraordinarily awesome and inspiring at sunset.) This is a very open area, with sea breezes, and moving waves. Here, human civilization is seems much less visible. It easily conjures up thoughts of what life was like 300 years ago and beyond, a time when human population was sparse.

A nice, easy walk to enjoy with the family. I recommend going early in the day because there isn't any shade.

Awesome park free parking! When you come down the wooden bridge thing if you turn right... beware its a 2 hour walk bur don't stress it loops and goes full circle my smart watch said it's like 7 miles. Just stay on the beaten path and there's no way to get lost also for being in one of the most populated areas in america I didn't see anything but birds not a person around for miles! Once you reach the old dredge your about a 1/3rd of the way done enjoy!

Autumn was having so much fun here. It’s a great place to be. I’m glad I spent some time here during my last day in the Bay Area. Must visit.

This place is beautiful!! I saw so many birds! We went on a Saturday and it wasn't full of people. It is very clean.

Beautiful, accessible, uncrowded. Lots of sea and shore birds at the right times—cormorants, great egrets, snowy egrets, sandpipers, shovelers and other ducks (and many I don’t know). Lovely flowers at all times of the year, but especially in the spring. Good for a quick semi-challenging dog walk or a longer run if you want to go out into the bay on the dog-free paths.

One of the best park in east bay area. You would need to bring binocular to watch beautiful birds. Amazing views. Free entrance. Peace of mind in quiet place. What else do you need? :)

Beautiful outdoor space to enjoy a walk, hike, or bike ride. It's peaceful and a great place to visit especially closer to sunset. There isn't much tree cover, so keep that in mind when you visit. It can get windy, so a light jacket around the evening time might be helpful.

Nice place for a nature walk. Not particularly quiet, HWY 85 is close by, and not any wildlife around taking refuge, but certainly good to go for a very pleasant walk. Trails are mostly clean and well kept, though I saw dog poop twice.

The trail along the bay has recently flooded and was fairly wet and muddy today. The trail that used to lead over the highway 84 was closed off to all so there really was not much to explore. It does offer free parking though.

Wow what a hidden gem along the 84 highway I had a great time in solitude enjoying the cold wind blowing along my face. A must see stop.. Also for you runners out there, they have a 9 mile loop

What a peaceful place to go for a walk. There is much to see if you take the time to notice the surroundings. Also, a variety of different things depending on where you hike. The bay side is a different experience than the inland side. If you’re into biking I would recommend that too. Kid friendly as well. You can bring your dog, but it muse be on a leach. However, since it is a wildlife reserve it would be best to leave fito at home.

This park is in transition. There is a lot of construction happening on one of the main roads. However, there are stunning views of the Bay and the hikes are pretty easy. Lots of places to rest and birdwatch.

Nice viewpoint with picnic table and bench. Hiking trails are available, but auditorium building was closed. No restroom available. Maybe it is inside auditorium building if it's open?

Don Edwards is a refuge for both wildlife and humans in this busy world. They have educational programs, volunteer opportunities, a summer camp, internships, and are a great place to walk around. Not many places around here are free so take advantage! They also offer a Marsh-In summer camp that is great for kids. One of my favorite places in the bay area!

We enjoyed walking around this area. There were a few egrets and lots of ground squirrels. It's a nice walk. There are also covered picnic tables and a sandy area where children can play. We hiked to the top of the hill where you can see for miles and were able to catch our breath at a bench in the shade. There's a nice breeze up there to cool off after the hike up. We were there in the early afternoon so it was just starting to get hot. A really enjoyable spot for a short hike and picnic.

First visit with my wife and youngest daughter. Sunny and warm day, so the breeze off the Bay was welcomed. As we walked to the top of the hill I spotted the brace of golden eagles and got a few shots of them. Really enjoyed this unique Refuge.

Service here sucks. No one to check the birds in. Also they have to get their own food. During the hot glowing sunset as the flock of birds land, there was no one there to direct him to land. Also no landing zone for the birds; there was almost a mid air collision. Tax money should be used to build bird tower to communicate to the birds when to takeoff and land to avoid collisions.

Don Edwards San Francisco National Wildlife Refuge is a excellent place to observed Natures Animals and there habitat. Miles and Miles of rich verdant wetlands. There are docents there to explain what it is all about and beautiful trails that go out into the wetlands and observe the wildlife.. Nice place for a hike. You can make it as long or as short as you want, and the views are spectacular. I don't think you'll look at the Dumbarton Bridge the same way next time you drive over it!

  • 5/5 Glenn M. 4 years ago on Google
This is a remarkable area, seemingly small, but worth a half day or more if you take time to stroll its trails. The views of the Bay and of the Dumbarton bridge near sunset are spectacular, and there are several vista points that are worth a hour's contemplation. It's free, it's never crowded, and despite its location, next to the Dumbarton toll both plaza and opposite Coyote Hill, it feels secluded. Go there some time and watch the bridge traffic whiz by.

Beautiful scenery that shows a great contrast of an industrial bay being taken back by nature. Super cool rock formations too. Great walk for an experienced hiker or a noobie.

Great spot for birdwatching. But it is overall good weekend escape in Bay area. Easy to spot varies coastal birds at all seasons and occasionally Golden Eagle hunting for food. Hawks and raptors are easy to spot here too. Be careful at the sun since there isn't much shade and it gets really hot during summer under the sun.

This was the highlight of the family trip to San Francisco. I did not expect this place to be my favorite place of the entire trip. The skies were clear and everything was perfect for the hike in the area. I will be definitely heading back to this place in my next trip to San Francisco.
