The original Spanish mission was erected in 1797. Most of what you can see now has been carefully and painstakingly rebuilt and touched up through generous donations. I haven’t seen all of the Spanish missions in California, but this one strikes me as pretty simple and practical. As for whether the Spanish colonial legacy around the world is something to celebrate (any colonial legacy for that matter) is up to you, but at the end of the day it’s a physical part of history that doesn’t let us forget.

Interesting but not as big as many of the California missions. Was reconstructed in the 1980's. There is the mission, the church and cemetary. Small admission fee as this mission was restored and is maintained by private funding. Also a small gift shop. Weekday masses held at 8am. The church is very nice. Not over the top. Robert Livermore is buried there.. The cemetary is small but interesting. Sad. Overall worth a stop if you are interested in bay area and/or California history. It's probably a 1-2 hr visit for most people. It is wheelchair accessible in all areas . There is parking in the church parking lot on the north side of the church.

Trying to decompress and chill after a long few night shifts out of town, plus wanted to read up on and see more of Fremont, CA. Staff was kind and I was the only person there when they first opened at about 09:15 or so... made for a very meditative ans serene experience to fully enjoy the mission without others interrupting the experience. I purchased a Souvenir shirt to support the mission in a small way and I belive the fee was $10 entrance, but the cashier gave a medical discount of $5 for me to pay instead (another reason why I decided to buy a shirt lol). Appreciated this gesture! Taking landscape photos that capture light and shadow or muted colors and focused foreground with unfocused background is my "happy place" I thoroughly enjoy capturing "moods" of old buildings, architectural beauties, and unique plant life... so I did a series of photos. Would definitely recommend this mission for school age tours, a family outting on a nice day, or for the individual looking to spend some time with their Maker. The garden and fountain is relaxing over a cup of coffee. Worth a road trip!

We are doing all of the missions in CA and this was our seventh one. It was lovely to view, I would say I liked the museum the best. So much history and so much fun, the gift shop was lovely as well. We did like the church, but, of course there were tours of kids in there and more visitors, so it kind of took away the magic, but it was very beautiful and we enjoyed viewing it all. The surrounding grounds are gorgeous to view as well.

From 1797, the 14th of 21 Spanish Missions established in California. Small museum, cemetery and gardens attached. The Ohlone Indians were living in the area when the Spanish arrived.

Passing through San Jose, I was fortunate enough to attend morning Mass. I can't stress enough how welcoming and kind everyone was. Truly a special place, wonderful experience.

This place oozes history. The church portion was rebuilt in the early 1980s but it's faithful to the past of California. And take a guided tour to learn about the state, the area, and the successes and failures of many peoples who have ruled the state. Enjoy.

Cost is 10 dollars. We didn’t walk the museum but we did have time to visit the gift shop. This mission looks really nice on the outside. We didn’t have the chance to tour it due to time travel but it’s located in sAn Jose California. One of the Missions along the Mission route. Opened at 10am the morning we visited.

Amazing place to learn about the missions. The video was informative and the church was beautiful. Our family hopes to attend mass there soon.

It was beautiful. The only thing I did not care for is that the cemetery was on the other side of the church and to get through it you had to walk through the church. Well there was a quincenera going on and the lady that stopped us from passing through the church said we had to wait until it was over to pass. She wasn't very nice in her tone either. It was hot outside and we just needed to see the church to complete our visit. It was an awful experience although the ladies in the gift shop were so nice and sweet and helpful

A historically significant place in California history, but on the smaller side as far as Missions go. The exhibits are told mostly from the colonizers' perspectives (padres, rancheros, conquistadors). Not enough on the indigenous people and how they were impacted.

The history of the missions is incredible, both the good and the bad. This location delved into both without undue prejudice. The church is beautiful, and the museum was definitely worth the entrance cost!

The San Jose Mission is a priceless monument that magnificently preserves the state's significant spiritual significance and rich history. It offers a distinctive and fascinating experience with its beautiful building, serene setting, and instructive exhibits. Its well-kept gardens transport you back in time, and you can really feel the history there. The San Jose Mission offers everything you could possibly want with grace and grandeur, whether you're looking for spirituality, history, or just a peaceful getaway.

This is a small but beautiful and well restored mission. I visited with a 4th grade class and got the full tour. Parking is limited and it's about $10 per person. There are only two single stall restrooms. My main critique however is that the information shared to the school children portrayed the missions as a wonderful place for native Americans to live and how they benefited from the wonderful knowledge and skills given to them by the benevolent spanish. There was no mention of death, mistreatment, or unpaid labor.

It’s a nice place to see old-fashioned Spanish buildings. The entrance fees are $10 for adults and $6 for kids if you want to see inside the Mission. We skipped that.

Very nice. Enjoy history, artifacts and a short movie. Realize the history of the Padres and the Indians is very whitewashed, but still a nice historical experience. The garden and cemetery were very peaceful.

Cute little Mission, you have to pay entry. It has a small, tiny garden and a museum part with some exhibitions.

Good place for an elementary, docent-led field trip. Lots of artifacts to see indoors.

You guys the church is from 1985 but I think it's the same location. I love how they renamed it "Fremont" let alone Newark and Union City for what obviously should have been called San Jose.

One of my favorite missions that I have been to! There's a lot to take in and if you love a lot of pictures then come when they open!

Great little museum and beautifully restored mission church. The museum is old school and neglects some of the finer points of Mission history, including the fascinating and important story of Estanislao’s uprising, one California's most successful Native American rebellions. Naturally, they also do not engage in the controversy surrounding Junipero Serra's beatification. Nevertheless, the Mission is beautifully restored and the little museum focuses nearly as much on the Ohlone Indians as dusty missionary relics.

One of the most historically important locations in Fremont California. If you are a California History buff you need to visit at least once.

Visiting a California mission is a must for everyone who lives in California, and perhaps anywhere. It is important for people to open their eyes of the reality of yesteryears, our past. The historic time sets the foundation of our future. Mission San Jose is a superb place to visit, to learn, to understand, and appreciate the past reality of life.

The Mission San Jose otherwise known as Misión del Gloriosísimo Patriarca San José. Is a wonderful place to visit. There is a fee to pay for entering ($10 adult, $7 children) but is worth it. Beautiful archeology artifacts and has a site to see a video. The Mission San Jose has a beautiful church, garden, and cemetery.

This place will take you back in time. It's like a hidden gem in the Bay Area. There is very less crowd so, you'll have a pleasant experience exploring the museum.
