The
response
I
received
from
Amy
Bowman
PA,
was
to
deny
prescribing
an
antibiotic
that
had
previously
provided
relief
for
my
SIBO
condition.
Given
that
I
had
explained
that
I
have
neither
a
primary
care
physician,
nor
insurance,
and
that
money
is
critically
low
for
me
right
now,
she
advised
me
to
schedule
an
appointment
with
a
doctor,
which
would
not
only
be
cost
prohibitive,
but
unnecessary
if
the
antibiotic
I
requested
had
been
prescribed.
My
experience
with
Cottage
Virtual
Care,
is
that
it
seems
to
be
a
tool
for
Cottage
Hospital
to
funnel
business
to
their
network
of
physicians.
In
any
case,
for
me,
Cottage
Virtual
Care
was
just
that--Virtual
Care,
and
not
the
Actual
Care
that
was
needed.
ADDENDUM:
Cottage
Virtual
care
responded
to
my
review
by
posting
the
following:
"Cottage
Virtual
Care
is
most
appropriate
for
simple
common
conditions.
In
order
to
provide
the
highest
quality
care,
our
providers
refer
visits
that
are
not
appropriate
for
virtual
care."
And
here
is
a
quote
from
a
research
site:
"[SIBO]
is
a
condition
that
affects
up
to
20
percent
of
Americans
and
40
percent
of
all
gastrointestinal
patients,
according
to
Sandberg-Lewis,
SIBO
is
an
underlying
cause
of
Irritable
Bowel
Syndrome.
The
good
news
for
SIBO
sufferers
is
that
a
combination
of
conventional
antibiotics,
herbal
medicines
and
diet,
provide
relief
from
symptoms
and
time
for
the
body
to
heal."
With
1
out
of
5
Americans
(20%)
having
SIBO,
I
don't
know
how
it
could
be
viewed
as
anything
but
a
"common
condition."
Furthermore,
I
don't
know
how
the
prescription
of
a
common
antibiotic
proven
to
give
long
term
relief
could
be
viewed
as
anything
but
an
easy
solution
to
the
needs
of
anyone
suffering
the
effects
of
SIBO.
I
do
know
that
Cottage
Virtual
Care's
notion
of
the
"highest
quality
care,"
would
definitely
come
with
the
highest
price
tag
in
this
case.
