行田歴史博物館で「落ちないお守り」を購入し、太田焼きそばを食べ損ね、やよい軒での昼食後、渋沢栄一記念館が近いので立ち寄ってから帰宅することにした。
実家から比較的近いのだが、大河ドラマが放映去れるまで、地元の偉人の偉業を深く知ることが無かったので、還暦を過ぎた今、初めての訪問です。
建物は、しっかりした立派な物ですが、こんな深谷の端っこに造らなくてもいいのにと思えるほどの田舎にありました。幹線道路から細~い道路に入り、記念館前の50台は停められるであろう無料駐車場に停めて、記念館へ。大河ドラマ放映が終わったとは言え、平日でも結構来館者がいますね。記念館は無料で利用出来ます。私は当日フリーで入れたが、事前の電話の様子だと土日等は予約をした方が良いようだ。
展示品は少ない。ここは地元の記念館だが、渋沢栄一氏の遺品は、あちこちに分散している様だ。手紙や写真、書物や煉瓦、年表等が主だが、栄一氏のアンドロイドによる講演がある。一階に展示品、二階に僅かな展示と、一階に講演が行われる講堂で、30分程で見て回れるので、講演を聞かなければ短時間で済みます。
生家や縁の神社も近くにあり、栄一氏が育った今は地名のかわってしまった血洗島を散策するのも楽しそうですね。
