I'll give 5 starts because if you search before going there the good part of it is not the typical touristic sightseeing, just to see fancy houses etc. This place is for you to be closer to the locals, see how they connect with the sea, and contribute to the place. Besides, there are beautiful small boats and of course the sea that surrounds Funchal is always awesome, specially when the sky is so bright, like I show in the photos. There is a farol to see, if you want.

Beautiful fishing village where you can still breathe the atmosphere of the activity that its inhabitants carried out for so long. Clean, narrow and colorful streets taking advantage of the levada that ends in the sea

A picturesque bay, a small port for small fishing boats that look nice in photos. For a short visit and a walk. It's worth stopping by on the way. The beach is very rocky. All together very impressive, especially in the sun. ☀️🌊If you don't have a car, a nice option for a one-day trip is to take a public bus from Funchal to Cabo Girão, go down the path to Camara de Lobos and return by bus to Funchal.

A very beautiful town, advisable to visit and walk through it to get to know it.

A small village in the bottom of Lahti, which is full of life. Another "must visit" place for those visiting Madeira. The easiest way to get there is to walk along the nice beach route, where there are no difficult places or other traffic to disturb.

Great little fishing village with a wonderful atmosphere and friendly vibes. Good for mooching and enjoying a coffee or something stronger. Worth taking in all the street decorations and the cafe on the sea front.

A charming place, beautiful narrow streets, restaurants, local atmosphere, style, everything very colorful and a picturesque port. In my opinion, the real Madeira - peace and quiet.

The place is ok, but the guys who are jumping on you to give them money for parking it makes the place disgusting. You are afraid that they will scratch the car if you don't give them something. You don't know if you need to pay the parking or not.

Pretty harbour with multi-coloured boats but arguably living off the fact that Winston Churchill once visited a bit too much. Wouldn't wander into the town proper - felt quite uncomfortable.

Nice little harbour with quite a few nice bars. Winston Churchill visited here and there's a statue outside the hotel he used. Worth a couple of hours visit.

Like everywhere in the world.... the further from the front, the cheaper and more authentic the establishments. Beach area is under reconstruction, probably until Easter.

No wonder that Winston Churchill fell in love with this place, after all, the time spent here is truly worth it.

Very nice and picturesque. Sizeable parking space near the port. Max parking time 2 hours - which should be sufficient for a walk and a meal in one of restaurants nearby...

It might be that it’s particularly quiet right now, but the place is a lot less touristy than I had expected. Beautiful views both from the Miradouro as well as from the harbor itself. Some nice bars by the water (right next to the fishing boats). There is a nice walk to get here from Funchal which is mostly flat except for Praia Formosa which has a stretch without promenade so you will have to walk over the large cobbles on that beach. But you will be rewarded with some stunning views.

Don’t understand the good reviews. I would recommend skipping this town. Most of the architecture isn’t beautiful and all the cafes along the water are very touristy. Not much to see apart from a few colourful fishing boats.
