We spent 2022 Christmas night in Madeira and were a little bit lost where to have our Christmas dinner. In the end of the day we chose to eat at Chef Guru and this was our best decision!!! The food was amazing and the staff is super nice and they speak very well English. We could not imagine that an indian restaurant will be the best restaurant we visited in Madeira, but this is definitely the BEST :)

We walked past Chef Guru earlier in the day and were craving something a little different to eat. The curry was absolutely delicious, samosas were great and the tandoori chicken was super soft! We have had a lot of great curry’s and Chef Guru served us the best of the best. The wait staff here are extremely accomodating and their table service and general service was exceptional. Was so delicious, we forgot to take pictures! Can’t wait to see how your restaurant grows :)

Not your average indian curry house/restaurant. They have perfected the balance of the taste - mild depending on the context but still retaining all the flavors. The staff is really attentive. We had a nice chat with the owner towards the end and he was really kind to offer our little one a cotton candy on the house. Really a 5 star experience.

Highly recommend. From the food to the service everything was honestly really good. Waiter niel was so attentive to us and always made sure we were okay and happy. I will definitely be returning. I can see this restaurant takes pride in good service. Staff had such big smiles on there face. I even had a burn mark on my arm that I arrived with from home and the manager noticed it and even offered to give me something for it! Thank you so much guys!

Really special experience. Food was amazing - very different from your average curry house. We were treated to complimentary popadums and some spectacular food theatre with the avocado starter. The menu seems pricey but one starter is more than enough for two people, and rice is included with the mains, so it’s actually quite reasonable. Lots of choice for vegetarians.

This Indian restaurant is a real pearl. When we asked if we could also get a mixed vegetarian appetizer platter, the response was excellent. Without any problems we received a perfect platter of exceptionally delicious vegetarian appetizers. The main courses were also a total explosion of flavor. It was beyond tasty. The waiter was very friendly and attentive. We can recommend this Indian restaurant to anyone vacationing in Funchal.

Our All Vegan was Amazing!! Also, the overall experience was top notch. The attention to detail of this place is second to none I've been. BE PREPARED for surprises too (good ones) as this place really takes pride on what they prepare for you 😁 and you can taste it!

Arguably the best Indian restaurant in Madeira. Savoury food and the staff goes above and beyond to provide a great service. Highly recommend.

We had a wonderful time at this restaurant. The food was delicious, especially the vegetarian eggplant dish. They also surprised us with a complimentary appetizer. The location might not be the nicest, but their service outweighs it completely. They were very attentive and friendly, especially towards our kids. The waiter went above and beyond to get an apple juice for our kids from the store next door. This was such a nice gesture that made our experience even better. If you are looking for a place with great food and service, and you like Indian food, you should definitely try this restaurant.

"I recently dined at [guru], and it was an absolute delight! From the moment I stepped in, the ambiance was warm and inviting. The menu offered a wide variety of dishes to choose from, and the food was exceptional. I particularly enjoyed the [dish name], which was bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. The service was top-notch, with attentive staff who were knowledgeable about the menu and happy to provide recommendations. The wine selection was impressive, and our server helped us find the perfect pairing for our meal. What truly stood out was the attention to detail. Every element of our dining experience, from the table settings to the presentation of each course, was impeccable. Dessert was the perfect ending to a memorable meal, with the [dessert name] being a highlight. Overall, [Guru] exceeded my expectations, and I can't wait to return. It's the ideal spot for a special occasion or a romantic evening out. Highly recommended!"

Upon our arrival, we experienced a lengthy wait, and despite arriving before others, they were seated ahead of us. When finally seated, we were placed at a dirty table with remnants of the previous diner's meal. The table seemed poorly cleaned, with only the previous dishes and glasses removed. We ordered the Tikka Masala (€15.90) and Lamb Rogan Josh (€16.90) for both of us, along with garlic naan. Unfortunately, the naan we received was thin and hard, and the overall taste of the dishes was underwhelming. Despite choosing based on positive reviews, we found the food lacked flavor, and the portions were disappointingly small, leaving us still hungry. When we requested the bill, we encountered yet another issue. Instead of promptly addressing our request, the staff began cleaning and stared at us blankly. In the end, we had to take matters into our own hands, getting up and approaching them to settle the bill ourselves. This lack of attention to customer service further added to our overall dissatisfaction with the dining experience. The bill for this unsatisfactory experience amounted to €49.60, with the naan, supposedly for two, priced at €11.80. I do not recommend dining here considering the price and quality. Instead, I suggest trying Indian Palace, where we previously enjoyed similar meals. The dishes were much more flavorful, and the portions were generous, leaving us fully satisfied, all at a cost of €36.

Good effort by servers and complimentary popadum is a nice gesture, but the food is simply not worth it: tiny portions for an above average price with an ok flavor. Certainly stay away from the mixed vegetable curry - they make it with 50 cent freezer burned mixed vegetables from a supermarket, dunked in curry sauce - for 13.90 Euro.

The other half and I fancied a curry, so walked the short distance down to Chef Guru. We were instantly welcomed and shown to a table, and from here it just got better! The staff are quite simply lovely and extremely attentive, nothing is too much for them. We ordered poppadoms and a main dish each of lamb rogan josh and fish curry. Following the delicious poppadoms and pickle tray, we were served an unexpected starter treat, please see pictures. Served on dry ice it was lovely. Then the mains arrived and wow! Each dish comes with a portion of basmati rice, so you don't need to order any, however, we added a garlic naan to our order, as we were really hungry. Both of us have said that this was one of THE BEST curries we have had, the heat was just right (you were asked how hot you wanted it, so cooked from scratch and not from a mass produced batch) and the flavours were amazing. A nice thin naan bread, laced with garlic butter and tasty rice too. Absolutely love this place and we will be heading back there before we head home. PS - we live near Bradford, the curry capital of the North and our curries trumped anything we've ever had from there!

Friendly welcome and nice open terrace. Complimentary taster of chick pea chaat which was served with a bowl of dry ice for spectacular smoke effect. Starter of avocado chaat was great and lamb rogan josh was perfectly spiced. Naan bread was more like roti but was ok. Then the staff seemed to disappear, nobody offered dessert or coffee, I had to get up from table to find someone to ask for the bill. Great start - disappointing end. Will not return.

It is really a marvelous experience to eat at Chef Guru. They have a beautiful ambience with refined decoration and art. The pre starters are alchemical to the body and the soul!, the starters, the main courses, the teas and the lassis are of the quality of an exceptional chef. I will come back again definitely! The staff is all very polite and the view from the window and balcony is very relaxing. In my view, an unforgettable experience for the ones who love indian food.

This is hands-down the best Indian restaurant on the island, food-wise. The dishes were well-flavored and had a nice kick to them, without being overwhelming spicy. The service was very attentive, too. Ambiance isn't great though. Inside looks like an American diner, which is odd for an Indian restaurant, and the outdoor area is right next to a busy intersection, with lots of pollution and noise. Prices are too high for the portions served. 5,90€ for a garlic naan is plain ridiculous.

It was our first time visiting Madeira and the food here did not disappoint! Niel treated us with exceptional service and the staff was also very warm and welcoming. Our favorite dish was the Tikka Masala ans garlic Naan, I definitely recommend you try it. We will definitely be visiting this restaurant again in the future.

Exceptional food, excellent service and "cosmopolitan" surroundings. We really enjoyed our meal at Chef Guru last night. The staff were so welcoming and getting to meet the chef was very special. Our experience was perfect from the moment we walked in to book a table for later that evening to the Mango Kulfi "with a smile" (regulars will know this as one of Chef Guru's signature styles) we finished on. The chutneys are worth a special mention expecially the tomato chutney served with poppadoms and the hot chutney to add to any of the main dishes if you're unsure whether to order medium or hot. Hot can mean something quite different in different restaurants but this chutney solves that issue elegantly. We have to go back for another one of Chef Guru's tiny signature appetisers. One of the nicest things I've ever tasted - so balanced. 10 out of 10 for presentation and ingredients too. Please look at the photos - you won't be able to resist!

Flippin amazing, main courses did not disappoint in any way. We had all veggie options, palak paneer, dhal makhani, veg biryani, peshwari nan and they made me special chapattis. Super friendly staff and service. The dessert needs a little more attention, gajar halva wasn’t sweet and the gulab jamun just wasn’t cooked through enough.

We decided to venture out from our hotel to try some different cuisine and decided to try a local Indian in Funchal. This was one of the best decisions we made, the hospitality was amazing and the food was just as good. We tried a mixture of starters a mains from tikka to samosa's and butter chicken to Madras and all the cuisines were incredible. If you ever find yourself craving something different in Funchal I would highly recommend Chef Guru.
