A great way to try the rums of Madeira. Lovely little bar playing chilled music on a Vinyl record player (Nina Simone, Sade, mixed Jazz). There is a €15 flight of “standard rums” and a €30 version of premium/vintage which come with small tasting snacks to go with each. We had the latter. Very nice selection of rums with a good explanation from the owner.

I was rather excited to find this gem of a Rum House. Being used to rum from the West Indies, which is arguably the best on the planet - in my opinion, I was dubious of not finding good quality rum (as most bars in the UK tend to opt for Bacardi or Captain Morgan's - both cheap and nasty). However, I was pleasantly surprised... The rum here is GOOOOOD, the selections available were wide. I tend to really like the reserve rums, and the quality here didn't disappoint at all. The owner/host was absolutely amazing. Very knowledgeable and more than happy to discuss and walk you through his passion for rum, imparting knowledge of; the local distilleries, the ingredients and even the production processes. The bar itself is small, which is not uncommon for the old town in Funchal, and very cosy. My love of rum was catered for, as was my love of vinyl records - which was being played on a turntable. Could have stayed all night, but I value my liver these days. Lol. Great place, nice atmosphere and excellent friendly service.

Such an amazing place to be. The drinks are Cool. The music is so so good you wanna keep on listening to it. The music fits the mode and the vibe you get from Roberto and his chilled dress up takes the whole experience on a higher level.

By far the best poncha I've had on Madeira, super friendly and knowledgeable owner, excellent rums from several local distilleries and great music that plays along. I recommend the premium tasting that contains four limited edition rums and paired snacks. A delight!

Unfortunately not a good experience. We ordered Premium rum tasting. The explanation was very basic. When the runs were served, the only explanation was “this one is x years old and has this taste”. During our tastings nobody came to at least ask about our experience. Simple “how does it taste to you?” would suffice. After we were finished nobody cared and nobody asked. Simple “which one did you like the best” would suffice. We then went inside to pay and only interaction from the staff was “cash only please”. It was not crowded there and to be honest for the 30€ for premium rum tasting I expect more than “here are your rums”. I am quite a rum enthusiast and I would expect more personal touch to the experience and much more indepth description (e.g. how the rums aged, in what barrels, what caused e.g. the smokiness and something about history). There was nothing. I did not feel welcomed there and it felt like a tourist trap to me. We probably were not appropriately dressed for this and had our hiking/sporty outfit but there should not be any prejudice from the staff. Otherwise I cannot understand why we had such terrible experience compared to other positive reviews. The rums were good though and I was able to take a picture of them to find something about them myself later.

Great spot. Amazing music, jazz and blues. Roberto the owner is really intresting and every thing in there has a story to it. Just ask him. From the art he took himself to the music playing, some of which left as gifts from customers. Will he back... The sooner the better.

Excellent experience and well worth a visit to get a taste of the islands rum. You will find this in Funchal old town and its proprietors are both knowledgeable and friendly. Give it a look

Nice place for a quick rum tasting. Had the basic set. None of the rums really did it for me but this was a great way to get to taste what the island had to offer. The waitress was chill and laid back

Great place to try Madeira rum. We taste standard taste rums for 17€. They was great but not luxury one. We need to try premium, also they have flavored ones to try. Stuff is nice and I guess they are family business. CASH ONLY!

I Love this Place! I was there 5 of 7 evenings I tried a lot of different rum! I see some people are complaining about the prices! They are not into the rum game, I’m sorry. The place is offering special rum that’s only produced like 600 times and the bottle is 100€ or more So I really understand the prices 😉 The owner and the stuff is super nice nice and helpful You should go there if you love rum! The experience showed me new ways of drinking rum… I would rate it 7/5 if possible I really come back some day! Love that place!

Great concept and bar with potential that showcases the rums of distilleries across Madeira. They have a large shelf featuring a variety of rums and we did a tasting of 4. It was great to taste the variation between distillers and also try food pairings to them (which were well selected). In our opinion the order of the rums in the tasting could be a little improved, as some of the rums are more subtle in flavor and we felt nuances got lost after having started with higher-proof tasters and dominant flavors. The poncha was especially recommended to us by locals and is likely the best on the island. We also tasted some of the other cocktails, but would recommend sticking to the tastings and Poncha.

If you like rum, this is the place for you. Set in the old town of Funchal (which is beautiful) we tried the premier rum selection (interesting and very strong) I really liked the flavoured rums, the Almond & coffee my favourites. You can buy cigars too, with great service and atmosphere

We appreciated fact that rum comes from local places. But so disappointed by the quality and taste of standard degustation. Also tapas was really basic and expensive. I'm pretty sure you can have better local rum for a standard degustation. Service was nice.

Fantastic little rum bar in Funchal. Get the rum tasting menu and enjoy people watching from the terrace. They offer many different rums so get David to help you choose. Don't sleep on the fisherman's Poncha either, it was delicious!

Amazing place! Even if you know nothing about rum, the owner is super nice and will answer any question you have. Well worth your time. As others said, best poncha we've had was at this place.

The Rum Bar was awesome. The owner was very nice played great Musik and made the Poncha completely fresh for us. Furthermore the price was fair. Perfect for a drink and a nice time with friends. With the poncha also comes freshly made popcorn which was served on environmental friendly reusable wooden plates. Anytime again !!!

Lovely evening spent trying out different rums. Staff were lovely and very knowledgeable. Definitely worth a visit!

Love it!The owner seem to be a friendly and nice person. We drink the best poncha in Madeira ( and we try it in few places). You can also taste from a large variety of wines and rum. Nice vibe at that place!

We had a great time at the Madeira Rum House, tasting premium rums alongside snacks that go well with them. Excellent hosting - the owner clearly knows a huge amount and we learned a lot during a fun experience.
