The young guy who's taking care of this place is making you feel that you're at your buddy's place to hang out and eat some treats, and treats they have. The beef with french fries is great, the meat is tender and the sauce phenomenal. Highly recommended if you want to feel like you belong here and if you want to eat something good. No issues with anything, and they've even packed our leftovers so we could eat them later at home. 10/10.

The grilled meat here tastes absolutely heavenly and the portions are huge. Fair prices & great service. Out of all places I tried in Funchal, this one is definitely the best.

The perfect dinner, well served and cooked as the family tradition would require. There are few tables along a narrow and quiet street. Try the scabbard roll, is very tasty, or the picado regional (the medium one is quite big!) that is delicious too. In August it closes at 9 pm, so it's better to arrive early at 7 pm to enjoy properly the dinner.

Meat is tender and jucy and fries are home made. Portion also is big and you'll not go out hungry. Everything is super fresh. The prices are also really affordable. So much recommended🙂 We also got once grapes for free.

Family restaurant amazing in Funchal! The service is top notch, they speak perfect English and the food is typical Madereinse 🙌 it was perfect price and ambiance outside in the terrace. Come early as it can become full quickly. I really enjoyed everything about this place. Thank you!

If you’re looking for a place in the city center of Funchal that doesn’t break the bank but in the same time doesn’t compromise on quality, O Avô is a great choice. The food is exceptional as well as the service is. Great vibes, no question why the locals also choose this place. If I could I would give more than 5 stars.

The menu is basic and has just a few choices. On top, the food is not good at all. Really disappointing. Do not look at the high rate, as it probably belongs to the previous owner of the restaurant.

Great experience for football lovers. That man has every football scarf on the planet. Very impressive! Just tell him the name of the team you suport and he will show you the scarf location.

Food is absolutely terrible. I ordered the skewers and I got 4 stones on a wooden stick. The worst part is that I payed 14,5€ for this terrible pice of reheated food. Don’t trust the reviews because I’m certain they were written when the restaurant was under a different administration. Today this place is nothing more than a tourist trap

Lovely bar however they took down the scarves after the previous owner passed away.

Fantastic night, owner very friendly and entertaining. Enjoyed making new acquaintances after drinking really strong poncha! Don’t expect an extensive menu as it’s fresh fish of the day or meat with rice and salad. Would definitely recommend a visit though.

Quirky and different. Owner is very friendly and likes to collect football team scarfs.good price not a large number of menu items but very nice none the less

Basic food - we’ve had choice only between fish or pork but atmosphere is incredible. Owner is amazing guy! If you’re fan of football - visit is a must :)

After checking of few good reviews I was expecting truly outstanding food. Today we've been a little bit disappointed as we had cold fish meals, mess with order (different wine, no soups) ... BUT our host was very nice, friendly and bubbly persona. He is just an honest man with lots of stories to tell. Place has an extraordinary atmosphere and character, especially football clubs scarf's collection . Ther is a menu on the standing board outside but generally it was three dishes to choose: fish, pork or omelette which is fine if you are hungry. Prices for meals 7-9€. Good wines, whatever you order, whatever you got.

Very interesting place. Don’t be surprised if you don’t get a menu. The host, probably the owner as well, will gladly tell you what’s available. We got a local fish with white sangria. Really delicious! As a surprise we got a local poncha. There is also the biggest collection of football scarfs in the world, even got four from Slovakia😅
