Hidden gem, we tried several restaurants In the area while here on holiday, and this is far the best... The steak on the stone is surberb.. The staff are very excellent, and the service is brilliant. Can't ask for more..

The best steak on a stone on Madeira. Trust me I've tried at least 10 different places. This is some of the most tender steak on a stones you can find. The staff is super friendly and attentive. There is only inside seating.

Amazing food, the waiters were so kind, my Grandparents came here for many years and now me and my family come here every time we visit Madeira, and ever time we order the steak on the stone, never fails to amaze us! Amazing service, definitely recommend :)

Service was very quick and amazing. Wine and then food arrived quickly. The steak on the stone was amazing apart from the face full of steak cooking. Wine was very nice. The salad and chips were a little greasy for my preference. We were put on a table right next to someone but they were finishing up with coffee, would still have been nice for more spacing out. The lighting was a bit hash. You get a free whiskey is male and almond liquor when you receive the bill

Probably one of the best stakes I ever had in my life, staff was very nice , and what I assume being the owner made sure we were well treated and made sure we had the best quality of food! Completely recommend if you come to Madeira and fancy a really nice steak !!

Many have said in other reviews that Solar da Ajuda is a hidden gem and they are so right. This busy little restaurant caters for so many different tastes. From pasta, pizza to steak and chips or the standard tuna steak on a hot stone. If like us you like meat then you have to try the Espetadas (meat on a skewer), the pork and beef are so tender. So much more than the regular tourist meat skewers you can get in Madeira. The staff are very friendly and soo helpful, nothing is too much trouble. If its your birthday they will throw in the standard 'happy birthday' celebration complete with guitar!

A busy popular place. I ordered Steak on the stone - able to cook to your own preference. Steak very tender. As a sole person was great to be able to order half a bottle of wine. Very reasonably priced

Not particularly specific to this excellent restaurant but I feel the need to get this question out of the way - Why steak on a stone? I've had this in the UK and I basically destroyed a very good piece of meat which went from rare to over cooked by the time I finished? I booked this restaurant through the chat line (first time I've ever used it) with a very quick response from Fernandez ( I hope this is the correct spelling for a lady!) Very busy on arrival so glad we booked. Because of my previous "Stone" issues, I ordered fillet with pepper sauce and hey presto, perfectly cooked steak! My wife had a very nice grilled tuna dish. We had a very nice bottle of white wine on advice of Fernandez and after chocolate mousse with ice-cream, it all went down hill from there! NOT! Complimentary Madeira wine then complimentary almond liqueur and brandy saw us float out of the restaurant. Not surprisingly, we are going back! Well worth a visit! 3rd visit. Red wine tonight chosen again by Fermanda! An excellent wine, Fajitas for my wife and fab pepper Steak yet again for me has made the decision for us that we will return for our last night. Busy? It's full from about half six to half eight so I would recommend booking!

Very nice meal with extremely welcoming husband/wife team. Food was cooked perfectly (steak on a stone/ chicken piripiri) and fresh pineapple 🍍 for dessert. Can’t understand all the ice cream options but maybe it’s just a local thing. Otherwise, very nice meal. Don’t let the facade fool you. Please visit.

True one restaurant. Located not far from the ocean and you risk missing one of the greatest restaurants on Madera. Steak on rock - the best that I've ever tasked. Plus the service is just brilliant. They bring you raw meat on hot rock and you personally could control how you like it medium rare or even well done. In addition to steak I personally recommend ordering baked potato. All other meals that we ordered were excellent as was the steak. The restaurant has a menu not only in English and Portuguese but in Polish and Scandinavian languages.

Ate the steak on stone and loved it as always. You're going to this restaurant because of the food and not for the atmosphere. It's not cozy and exclusive so you can eat there with a pair of shorts. :-)

I've been to over 40 restaurants on the island, and this is by far my favorite place for meat. The steak from the stone is so tender and cooked to perfection, and the espetadas are juicy and flavorful. It also has the best poncha in Funchal, and one of the best on the island. The owner and staff are also incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel like you're part of the family. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great quality meat meal and a wonderful experience.

This is probably one of the best restaurants in Madeira. We decided to check it out since we were staying in the area and we LOVED it. The food is absolutely delicious. We went there a few times during our stay and will definitely return again.

We stayed closed by for two weeks and this restaurant is the only one we decided to visit twice. The food quality was awesome and price was reasonable. The service was warm and you immediately feel welcomed.

We came here twice on our trip to Madeira, the service is great, the options were great as well, everything was done really efficiently and the staff were also great and very welcoming. The owner/manager was a really good to speak to and very welcoming! Could not recommend anymore if I wanted. Will definitely eat there more when we come back to Madeira in the future.

The hot stone steak is hands down the best steak I have ever had, in any restaurant, ever. The restaurant is quite unassuming from the outside but it's a must go to place for anyone wanting authentic Portuguese food!

I always go for the fillet steak. Beautifully tender and cooked to perfection. I've been going here for 15 years or so and have not had a bad meal yet.

Excellent food and wine. Ambience a bit strange as very bright lights, but service and food excellent. Very large portions. Just had a main each... grilled prawns salad with jacket potato and a sirloin on a hot stone with salad, sauces and jacket potato. Delicious red wine. Not expensive. Would highly recommend

The host was absolutely amazing and we felt very welcome. My partner had the chicken fajitas and thought they were the best she ever had. I was convinced to go for the steak on a hot stone and was not disappointed at all. The best steak I have ever had. Would come back everyday if I could.

This was the first time my sister and I had visited this spacious restaurant.What a great experience! We took the advice of the Maitre to share one very tasty steak on the stone between us . Exactly the right amount for two old ladies! No room left for one of the wide range of desserts, so finished off with glass of our favourite Baileys, served in a way new to us, blended with ice crystals. Fab!! Finally, a surprise farewell of an almond liqueur. Waitress service fast and attentive. Special recommendation for our waitress Beatrice, so professional.

Friendly restaurant, reasonably priced and with good service. I thought the food was average, but I only ate there once so others may have had better meals. Salad was fresh but uninspiring being just lettuce, onion, cucumber and tomato: it reminded me of the boring salads my parents used to make in the 80s. Good portion size.
