We took a walk late in the evening and found this small restaurant. From outside it didn't make a good impression and the menu looked dreary. Because of the good ratings we went in. The waiters were very friendly and I'm certain the view from the patio is beautiful (we will come back to double check). While we ordered we could see kind of live cooking for a family on a table next to us. That was really impressive. When our food was brought I was really amazed by the dedicate preparation. Eating with the sound of the ocean in the background and a faint music in the ears was enjoyable and relaxing. I would recommend to visit this restaurant. Thanks for a wonderful evening! 😊

This unassuming place turned out to be one of the best places we had dinner at during our time in Madeira and we even came back a second time! The decor is a bit weird and trashy (especially with the TVs on the wall showing either pictures of the food or a cooking show) but the food is superb! We had the octopus, tuna and sea bream and all were delicious! The service is attentive and the view over the ocean is amazing! Highly recommend!

Our experience at Aconchego was magnificent! From the soup to the steak, and the sunset views to the dessert, everything was top-notch. I enjoyed the (very large) tomato, onion, and egg soup as a starter. I was expecting more of a pureed tomato soup, but it honestly had more of a french onion soup flavor, with a few notes of tomato. It was herbaceous and delicious! For an entree, I had the golden bream fillet with mushroom and saffron risotto. The crispy skin on the ample fish portion was a highlight of a very flavorful dish. A squeeze of lemon really made the flavors pop. My husband ordered the filet on a hot stone, and enjoyed every perfectly seared bite! The caipirinha, house rosé, and house red wine were all tasty accompaniments to our meal. For dessert, he ordered the house dessert (a caramel brownie with ice cream), and I had the petit gateau (a chocolate lava cake) with ice cream. I loved the gateau -- it was perfectly gooey and deeply chocolatey. We had a delightful evening, and will likely be back for another meal before we depart! We have been staying in the Lido neighborhood, and enjoyed a very leisurely stroll through the Saõ Martinho neighborhood (with a stop for a snack and a drink) along the way. We took the route 1 bus back to our hotel, as there was a stop just up the road from the restaurant. If you're on the fence about going, I highly recommend you do! It's an excellent meal with good portions for the price, and the sunset views are hard to beat.

Okish. I ordered a cod fish with "vegetables from the garden" (18 €). Awesome I thought. It arrived with only onions. I asked the waiter. After asking the kitchen, he told me that they had changed the dish but not the menu. He brought me the veggies. Cool. Unfortunately, they where too salty. The cod was very chewy. To be honest, not sure if cod fish is like that. I communicated this and had hoped for some kind of acknowledgment of the feedback.

Looked a little shabby from the street, but we believed the ratings and went inside anyway. It has a really comfy atmosphere inside and a nice view facing the sea. Food was good and they put a lot of effort into the preparation of dessert (which we sadly didn’t try). Overall I fully recommend it.

Absolute stunning experience. From the outside you wouldn’t expect this place to serve this kind of delicious food. We had the garlic bread and some tapas as starters. Both things super delicious. Our personal highlight was the filet steak grilled on a stone, we also got the opportunity to try their pepper sauce, which was just awesome. The quality of the beef, was super! For a desert we took the pancakes, as well as the chocolate soufflé. The pancakes and it’s sauce got created right in front of us, which was a great experience. We also got the opportunity to sit right next to the ocean with an amazing view. Highly recommend this place, for us it was a hidden gem on the island :)

The Aconchego restaurant was just up the hill from my hotel and I had dinner there three times during my stay, all of the meals were lovely and the staff are so friendly. I had the shrimp risotto, the bream fillet which came with a lovely risotto and on the last night the octopus which was amazing, so tender. If you are close by while on your holiday I definitely recommend a visit. Or even if you are not close then the number 1 bus stops right outside!!!

Hands down the best octopus I‘ve had so far! The woman who was serving us gave us some insider tipps about the local drinking habits (poncha) and the food was way more than only good tasting! Sadly we were too full and too tired to try the desert; which clamors for retasting :)

Ambiente and service are very fine. My salmon salad was very fresh and my shrimp risotto was a 10/10 very delicious. Tip: Try the „Bolo do caco“, its very tasty!

Truly a hidden gem in Funchal. Seen from the street it looks like a very small local restaurant, nothing special. But boy, talk about how looks can deceive... You absolutely HAVE to eat here. Delicious food, one of the best steaks I've ever had. Beautiful view on the ocean. Very friendly staff. Reasonably priced. Shame we only discovered this restaurant on our last day, we would've gone more than once otherwise.

The food was nothing special compared with other local restaurants. What surprised me was the service from one particular waitress. Couldn’t name the person. She tried to choose some drinks that I wasn’t interested with asking me. When I realised that, she felt annoyed and literally she wouldn’t just be more attentive to order foreigners which she thinks that would order many foods and spent tons of money as she assumed we usually know nothing. This place is not even good for a single visit. You got nice views to see the sea . So what? Please educate your servers and choose better quality food before you want to attract tourists. Btw I live in Lisboa so personally I don’t think my taste for Portuguese food is so specific that I couldn’t even recognise what Portuguese is at good quality and what are trying to cheat. It’s sad to try the food there

We visited the restaurant on a tuesday and got seated infront of the ocean view. Both of us had the gold bass with risotto and it was very tasty. The service was very good and they were always up for a small chat when they had the time for it. After we payed they told us that they have live music on friday and asked if we want to come again and make a reservation. Agreeing was the best decision we could have made. On friday we had lapas as a starter and for the main course cod filet and the pepper steak which gets cooked in front of you with a fire show. It was the best steak I ever had as it already felt apart while looking at it. As a dessert we took the crepe suzette with gelato which also got cooked infront of us. All in all it was the best restaurant we had dinner at on our 8 day vacation. The prices were very reasonable for the portions or even cheap compared to other restaurants. I would recommend it to everyone visiting the Island 🙂

A very beautiful restaurant with a great view to the ocean and if you are there around sunset you have a great view if you are sitting on the view edges. Make sure you reserve well in advance because the restaurant is every evening full. Food is superb. Excellent taste and looks amazing. Really one of the best dishes we had in the island. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Great place for food drinks views and sunsets.

What a great place: First impression from outside: inconspicuous - but when you enter the place, you fall immediately in love. Supernice seating with a breathtaking view on the ocean. Superb service (after we left, I regret, that I did not give a higher tip) and excellent food - my boyfriend took the steak, I chose the mushroom risotto. As a starter we enjoyed the cream cheese and typical garlic bred. And the dessert was yummie, as well. Really a blast for us! We recommend to reserve, but if you come early enough I guess you get seated, as well.

Had a really excellent evening here. Views from balcony dining area are stunning. The atmosphere is very warm. The food was very good. Nothing fussy, just good things cooked very well. The service is really excellent: friendly and welcoming but also professional. Will go again, and again.

Restaurant looks small from the street, before I got here I imagined 4-5 tables inside. I was surprised after entering inside - place is quite big with nice view on the ocean, recommend to reserve the table and eat while watching sunset. Menu contains mainly seafood and grilled meals, but they have also option with chicken plus risotto (which was too salty in my taste), was disappointed a little bit, but decided to stay with the food. Nice staff, fast service. It would be great to have the place cleaned up outside (plenty of tables with chairs stacked on each other).

We stumbled ( literally ) while hiking around Madeira. From the street it looks like a tiny bar/restaurant. In actuality it is a nice sized restaurant that serves very good upscale European cuisine at moderate prices. Definitely the best food of our vacation. They request reservations, and if you want a good seat overlooking the ocean I would request a balcony seat. It has the best view of the Sunset! It does get a little chilly so dress warm. Their salmon was absolutely the best I have ever had and would recommend it to anyone.

Nice, cosy & romantic restaurant. From the mainroad you take the stairs down, the terrace and indoor area have a great sea view in between a nice botanical decor. The vibe is very relaxing and quiet. Staff is very friendly and dishes are very tastefull. Will defenitly return again.

A true hole in the wall, off the beaten path gem. The service and food were excellent. Best value for quality we've found in Funchal. 1 starter, 2 mains (good portion sizes), and 2 desserts were 50 euros (we had water to drink).

Wonderful location out of the busy centres. Wonderful view from the terrace. Service was satisfactory & attentive. Food portions were adequate rather than generous, but everything was tasty & good. I had fish but neighbours had sizzling steak which sounded & smelt incredible. Would definitely return.

Unbelievably delicious. I don’t eat meat much these days but I am so glad I ordered the steak. So fun to have it cooked in front of you, and it was the best steak I can remember having ever. The fish starters were incredible too. What a total gem this place is.

Despite the slowness of the service, this is hands down a great place to have a meal. The atmosphere was clever and the food was very tasty. The singers were quite good. Only problem is that we waited 30 minutes for 3 Bolos do Caco that turned up cold. Despite the service, it’s a great welcoming spot to eat.
