Nice museum and gardens. Not very big but will occupy you for an hour or so. Cafe on site really nice and would recommend stopping for lunch or a refreshment. €3 to get into the museum but gardens are free.

Our walking tour guide showed us this lovely place. I only saw the garden but it seemed like a perfect spot to escape the city and enjoy some peace. Also there are cats there❤️

An interesting museum in Funchal. The main building is surrounded by a small garden area and includes the so called "archaeological garden" which has some remnants of previous buildings and some gravestones. There is a quaint little chapel at the bottom of the garden too. Some of the garden is certainly very well kept however parts at the rear are more overgrown and ramshackle. There's a separate little cafe that's quite modern on site too. The building itself was interesting but totally unsuitable for those unable to walk as access is up via a set of stairs and exit via a separate set of stairs. I saw no sign of wheelchair facilities.

Very pretty gardens well worth the few euro entrance fee. Museum interesting too but i preferred the amazing gardens and huge trees... Some very noisy frogs too!

Steep walk up to the museum but worth the effort. Free gardens and museum only €3 per adult. Garden teahouse has bay views. Coffee and scone only €6.50.

Paintings and furniture in an old villa giving some insight into the old Madeira estates. Worth a visit at €3 per person. However, there wasn’t much context provided and it’s hard to really know what you’re looking at. We had a nice lunch at the cafe, which has great views down to the port. The museum is closed for an hour at lunchtime 12:30 - 13:30, but the cafe stays open.

Beautiful gardens, but the mansion itself is not very interesting. Too little info in english.

Nice little park with a few artifacts around and a small chapel. Didn't actually go inside the museum, called in for the café which seemed good value with great views

Nice place to wander around for about an hour or so. Photos are allowed inside. Each room has English language placards to explain the interiors and decor. Found it all fascinating.

Gives you an example how a quinta looked like. Exhibition not anything special

Quite large and interesting museum in a lovely Quinta. Nice gardens with some archaeological exhibits and a small chapel. Free ticket through Madeira Safe Experience.

A fascinating place, and I particularly like studying the old paintings and comparing to how the island looks today. Best appreciated if you have been exploring in and around Funchal for a few days beforehand. The grounds are good for a pleasant wander too.

This was somewhat of a fined up a steep hill so we were glad to take time to look around the museum followed by a walk in the parity garden followed by excellent cocktails in the small bar and restaurant situated with a lovely view across the roof tops to the harbour and the Atlantic Ocean beyond.

I only visited the gardens because I was interested in one specific artefact. I came just before closing and didn’t have time to fully enjoy the experience but I think it’s a very nice and peaceful place for an afternoon stroll.

Fantastic Quinta museum full of a man's art/objects collected from around the world. 30/40minutes well worth your time

Worth a visit. It's interesting for the content, some of which is beautifully curated and in room settings which may be largely original, while other parts have collections bequeathed by well meaning people which could perhaps best be described as eclectic. It is a beautiful building set in nice grounds with a cafe and a chapel. Ask at the ticket office exactly which is the entrance door to enter the museum as it is not obvious.

Beautifully furnished period Quinta in lovely grounds overlooking Funchal. Suoer restaurant/ coffee shop in the grounds overlooking the English Church. Steep walk up the hill from Old Funchal. Easier walking down !

A large country house example of life in Madeira in the past. The site has a good cafe with excellent service and even scones with jam and cream. The artifacts in the house could do with some extended descriptions, but very interesting all the same. Cost is 3 euro Closes for lunch 12.30 to 13.30

It's such an incredible view back to history with a lot of artifacts. Very well organized and surrounded by a garden that is worth a visit. And the area offers a cute restaurant with a view over Funchal and high-standard dishes. If I return to Madeira, I return to this spot!

No idea what this place is like. Tried twice to visit this garden but the published opening times are not correct, neither the website or Facebook or on the gate. The first time we went it was closed so we noted the opening times and went back when it said it would be open, but there was then another notice with different opening times.

Eclectic exposition spanning over the lastfew centuries. You can sample the way of life of wealthy merchants. Prepare your QR-Code scanner to get info

We loved the museum and the gardens

Fortunately entreence fee is only 3E for adult, but in my opinion is not worth even that. Museum is very high on the hill so I recomend taking bus, not walking. In not far distance you can find Frederico de Freitas museum which is better option.

Lovely place to visit. Interesting house and lovely gardens

Lovely gardens. The museum would benefit from better signage on exhibits as there are lots of things but only a very few notices to tell you what you are looking at!
