Above average buffet. Wife disagrees. Rooms old and worn, scratched mirrors, hair in the shower. Whoever thought carpet on a hotel floor was a good idea should reconsider their career choices. The lobby and other parts of the hotel have been renovated. How about the rooms? We reserved a premium sea view, but only got a partial sea view. Pool closes at 7. Why? But, the final straw: on the day we checked out, we asked them to hold our bags for us. They agreed. Later, when we came back 5 hours later, our bags were just sitting in the lobby, unattended, full of our valuables. Do better, Pestana.

Overall this was a great stay. We had mostly good service for the week, the staff were nice and our room was spacious. But one time we waited quite a few hours for a room service menu to be sent to our room - we had to call reception to ask them to send it again. We waited an extra hour before the simple sandwiches arrived, and our drinks weren't delivered at the same time. They took another 30 mins. We also had broken glass in our room and asked multiple times for someone to come clean it up, but once again this took more than 3 hours before they sent someone over. The rooms were nice in general with a good view of the pool, but you can hear other guests walking or moving chairs upstairs, you can haer people talking in the hallway, or outside on their terrace. The pool and hotel facilities were good, but I would consider this a 3 star hotel instead of 4 stars.

What a beautiful hotel this is, the views are incredible! Location is perfect, 5 minutes away from Funchal centre & the Marina. Every member of staff was friendly, helpful & a credit to the hotel. The grounds & rooms were extremely clean. Food was very nice. I would not hesitate to recommend & we will certainly be visiting again in the future!

Beware of the dungeon rooms you can't sit out as there are hundreds of people passing within feet of your outdoor area plus you have to lock the shutters as people can just climb in ..I also mentioned a damp smell when you walk in no one interested plus I reported the air con not working no one fixed it ..it was still in the 20s at xmas I dred to think what it would be like in the summer..and they seem to be constantly pushing Time share... leaflets under the door and a little Pestana room out on the Prom next to our room Trying to con people with cheap jeep safaris if you go to their hotel for an hour...the staff on the other hand were nice enough but 1350 euros for a dungeon room very poor..

Great location just 15 minutes walk from centre of Funchal and on the coast with lovely walks. The hotel is first class but some rooms are on the small side, the rooms facing the pool are fine size with patio door onto the gardens and pool. A great breakfast and evening meals were all good. Indoor and outdoor pools, small games room and gym to kee you occupied.

Fantastic hotel right on the prom, brilliant pool. Our room was a T2 owners club split level one with 3 balconies and an amazing view. Everything was great EXCEPT the breakfast buffet which is limited, uninspiring and even worse, the hot items were stone cold. Complained on the 4th morning and never went back. So goes from a 5 star to a 4 because of that.

A most comfortable hotel in which the staff made us very welcome. Somehow, we did not think residents were encouraged to use the extra facilities ie. the pool bar and the restaurant bar - other than at happy hour!! Those on duty at reception were most helpful. We would certainly recommend the hotel as a convenient holiday base as the Lido area nearby provides a great atmosphere.

Very well equipped apartments. Service is always good. Food is improving, and quality is better than ever. Evening barbecues and special events like 80's and jazz nights going well.

The only thing I could complain about was the fact that there are plenty of notices regarding hanging items of clothing or towels over the balconies, It still happens, and maybe the management could send reminders to the guilty parties! Secondly, towels are left to reserve sun beds fof later in the day. Nobody likes this practice, Upgraded room with sea view, perfect . Like the location and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

Most staff are very friendly. Most of the hotel is clean and well maintained. Lower rooms on -1 are in a basement that feels like it's on a service corridor. Clearly flitted after the hotel was built. Windows open straight out on to the public promenade at street level which feels odd. Had to pay for an upgrade to something that was not claustrophobic. Jacuzzi was dirty and needs a refurb. Breakfast was OK. The food in the pool cafe was perfectly edible but totally tasteless

I would not recommend this hotel as it is located next door to a 3-storey trampoline and soft play centre. The music and noise from 9am until 11pm, from screaming, excited children is intolerable. I have nothing against children enjoying themselves, but the disruption to our peace and quiet on holiday is not acceptable. We cannot sit on the balcony in quiet enjoyment, due to the constant screaming. There is no respite from the noise and after a couple of days, it becomes intolerable. The placing of this facility and the closing time of 11pm is not appropriate, being next to a 5-star resort, where people want to relax. Rather than eat and drink at the hotel, we have gone elsewhere, as there is little escape from the noise. We mentioned it last year, but no improvement has been made to the noise level and opening hours. If you come to Madeira for a relaxing, quiet break, then we cannot recommend this hotel.

I have enjoyed my week here. The studio apartments are spacious, well equipped and overall good. The hotel is in a good location, and the staff are great, not too formal but not too casual either. The bed is a bit too hard for me, but that is just personal preference.

This Pestana property demonstrates all that is great about providing great customer service at a large hotel - name recognition, friendly and caring staff, attention to detail, relaxed and unhurried attitude yet speed when required. Front desk, housekeeping and restaurant staff aced this ~10 night stay. Solid breakfast buffet ( with fresh orange juice to die for) available from 7-11 ( great hours compared to other hotels ) provided by a superb team who made us feel very much at home. Parking is easy - free parking often available outside and very reasonably priced paid underground parking under the hotel itself with direct elevator access to all hotel floors. Location is good with walkability to nearby shops, restaurants, waking areas and walkable to central Funchal. We can’t recommend this hotel enough.

A wonderful hotel. Rich and varied breakfast. The staff is wonderful and helpful. A wonderful welcome with a glass of wine and a pleasant conversation with the receptionist (unfortunately I forgot his name). It is a little far from the city, it didn't bother us. The bus for the city and the airport stops in front of the hotel. A beautiful promenade. We are coming back for sure.

We have nothing but praise for this fantastic hotel. The location, the garden, the friendly staff in particular the pool boy who does his utmost. Every morning at breakfast we are greeted by the management asking about your day and your stay. The view from the balcony, the restaurant and the beautiful garden is breathtaking. Madeira is a very beautiful island, the stay made it a wonderful holiday for us.

A lovely hotel by the promenade. The rooms are spacious and clean. The food is great and the staff are very attentive and helpful. I travelled with my family and twin babies. The hotels attention to detail is amazing making me and my family feel very welcome. Facilities are amazing with 3 outdoor pools set within landscape gardens and a large indoor pool and spa. The hotel is a 25min walk into Funchal Marina and city centre and a 10min walk the other way to a lovely shopping centre with well known brands, supermarket and coffee/gelato shops. Pestana Promenade is a great hotel in a fab location with friendly staff and facilities. I will definitely be coming back again.

A superb break at the Pestana Promenade. It was my first time staying but won't be the last. The rooms were spacious and clean - staff are willing to go above and beyond to help out and address any small issues as they arise. Pools and spa are brilliant and suitable for children and adults of all ages. Staff were amazing at supporting with airport transfers and offering information about local restaurants and places to go, without trying to sell additional excursions. Only slight issue was with people reserving sunbeds at daft times in the morning and then not using them for most of the day. The hotel says that you can't do this but without enforcing the policy, it's pointless to say not to. The good thing was a large delivery of additional sunbeds was made half way through our stay which alleviated some of the issues with beds.

Big rooms, very helpful and polite service, big clean swimming pools and very tasty breakfasts. And of course perfect localisation in front of promenade. Perfect place to rest and have amazing holidays

I with my family recently stayed at this hotel and wanted to express my gratitude for the exceptional service I received. A special thanks to Volodumyr and Laura, who went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. Volodumyr's attention to detail and friendly demeanor made check-in and our entire stay seamless. He provided great local recommendations and truly cared about our comfort. Laura helped me with my problem when it was hard for me to park my car in hotels parking. I'll definitely recommend this hotel, and I'm looking forward to returning soon. Kudos to your fantastic team!

The hotel is located about 300m from lots of restaurants and bars ,there is a bus stop outside which goes into Funchal ,about 1 euro 90 . Reception is on the left as you walk into the hotel, friendly staff explain all about the hotel. Our room was located at garden and pool level. The rooms are spacious and well presented, the bathroom is also large with bath/shower . Breakfast is served on this level and is of a high standard, definitely recommend the omelettes made to order .The indoor pool is kept very clean and opens at 8am , there is also large outdoor pool with no lifeguards, pool towels are in your room on arrival. Now for the only very minor problems, the pool towels were taken on 3 occasion's and not replaced, easily sorted when you inform reception, tea and coffee wasn't replaced either, there is building work going on on the road above about 50m away as their building a new apartment block we only heard noise on 2 occasions for a few hrs . We will definitely be staying again

We came for a week in July this year. While we were there, it was my birthday. Went out for a meal and when we arrived back in our room, there was a bottle of fizz, complimentary from the manager. Really enjoyed our holiday, all the staff very professional and friendly and i would to return for longer next time.

A very good hotel directly on the ocean front in the lido area of Funchal. Rooms are large with lovely balconies. The food and bar facilities are good, especially the a la carte restaurant Deep Blue. The staff are helpful, efficient and very friendly.

Overall we enjoyed our stay here. The staff are kind and helpful. The breakfast was tasty and we enjoyed it with a fantastic view towards the sea. Our room’s location faced the sea and looked decently modern but was exceptionally noisy from the children’s playground/facility next to the hotel. Make sure to ask for a room farthest away from it!Our room also felt a little dirty; the walls were stained, the floor was damaged at some places, our bed wall had red stains, and our bath tub’s floor was worn out/unstable. However, our bedsheets and linens were all clean and changed everyday. The outdoor pools looked great and the indoor spa area was cozy as well. The parking was alright, we were always able to find free-parking 30-40 meters from the hotel. Overall, I would recommend staying here just choose a room further away from the indoor pools - it’s next to the children’s playground/facility.

We just visited in November of 2023 and had a fantastic time at the hotel. Great views, lots of nearby restaurants and beaches and very friendly helpful staff. The pools and the spa were awesome.

A nice hotel, very well situated. The plus. Staff - all very nice, super accommodating, especially Fatima who was an absolute dear, spoiling me with her delicious 'guayoyo' coffee. Facilities - all well maintained Breakfast - varied and tasty. Rooms - good space. Customer service - an issue with the aircon when we arrived was dealt with quick and efficiently. Not so plus (but not bad enough to consider a con) Rooms - requested a double bed, but instead got 2 singles stuck together. Decor - quite dated. In need of a sprucing and bringing up to date with the 2020s. I would still stay here on a next visit nevertheless.

My second time here and hopefully not my last. Stunning views from comfortable spacious rooms, with lots of breakfast choice and a great on-site bar & restaurant. The indoor pool & spa is a real bonus. It’s well kept pool area is lush too.

When booking, reading the description you feel like the rooms would match the lobby and pool... sadly not. The rooms are outdated, beds hard and uncomfortable. Switched rooms first day.... feel like asking again. 😕 working remotely too.... but the wifi is less then stellar so I have to go elsewhere or work from the lobby which I would rather not do.

Perfect spot for me and my wife. spacious and clean room. Very nice staff. They made our stay in Madeira even more special. Will be back for sure.

The location of the hotel is optimal, direct at the entrance is a public bus station from where you get to the city center of Funchal within 5min, walking will take 15-20min. The room was well equipped and offered a great ocean view. In general the hotel is clean, but we were a bit frustrated about the room service, one week and not only one time the room floor got cleaned. For a 4 star hotel low service. The breakfast is okay but do not expect something special on the plates. It is more or less everyday the same offer, but you will get enough. Worth to mention is the outdoor and indoor pool incl. whirlpool.

Slightly biased as I have a Time Share at this Hotel. A very clean and well run established. Rooms are very spacious and most, including ours have a fantastic view. Food has always been excellent, and the bar is well stocked.

Very nice hotel. When you close your balcony doors, it's a quiet place. Friendly staff

  • 4/5 Marc S. 1 year ago on Google
The hotel is in a commanding position on a cliff overlooking the sea with only a pedestrian promenade along the sea. All rooms have sea view, none facing back on the main road. Rooms are quiet with large balconies. Breakfast buffet offers eggs cooked while you wait. Dinner buffet could be better, but quality is OK. Staff are very friendly, understanding and very helpful. Bus to Funchal city center stops right in front. Very quiet at night. Sleeping with the window wide open is no problem at all.

Nice hotel, fantastic and really helpful and friendly staff. Great breakfast and pool area. Although getting a pool side bed at times can be a struggle if you get there late ! Rooms and balconies were fine but did find if you get smokers on balcony next door it is likely to come into your room. Be great if it was possible to have total non smoking floors. Massage and spa treatments very good also.

We will miss leaving this lovely hotel! Had a great experience here. Our stay was made wonderful by greetings from the lady who welcomed us at the breakfast. She was so friendly and attentive. Thank you! Our omelette guy at the breakfast station was also amazing, he made one of the best omelettes. It was just a lovely place to stay in Madeira and recommended to many people. Unfortunately, the hammam area was out of order so we could not use it. However, the gym area is open for 24 hours. Overall it is an excellent experience!

Wonderful staff and place. A little piece of heaven on earth. Madeira is full of beautiful places and lovely people. Only negative compared to previously was people openly allowed to flaunt the "not allowed to be bagging a sunlounger at 8am with their towel!!!" Which is not in keeping with the ethos. Wonderful holiday tho ♥

Excellent stay as usual, half way through our 3 week holiday. Last night the Promenade management put on a Jazz night dinner at €40 each for 3 courses and unlimited drink. Congratulations to management and staff who worked exceptionally hard to ensure a great night was had by all. In 15 years of staying here that was definitely our best night. Let’s hope it is the first of many such nights.

We have visited Madeira many times for our summer holiday and have stayed in a few of the Pestana hotels which have all been fantastic. We prefer the Promenade however for its great views of the ocean and proximity to so many great restaurants

We're members of the Pestana vacation club but have never been allocated a room of the quality that was sold to us 4 years ago. Beds are horribly uncomfortable, room servicing is none existent other than to make the bed. Shower either scalding hot or freezing cold & this time it leaked whenever used. WiFi so intermittent that wasn't worth using. Reception although polite, offered incorrect information resulting in a wasted journey. Membership coming to an end & so would definitely suggest thinking twice about subscribing to this vacation club, sadly.

This was our first time in Madeira, so we looked for a lot of hotels. With the Pestana we got the Jackpot. This is such a beautiful hote. The food is good, the view is amazing, the rooms are perfect and the most to say is the personal. Tjey are so nice, helpfull and looking for your comfort. Never had a hotel with such nice people. And Mrs Rodrigues made our vaccation perfect. She helped us a lot and planed our Madeira trip. Thank u all for this expirience.

Spent 8 nights at the hotel with the wife in January 2023 via Jet2 Holidays. Lovely building in a great location near countless good bars and restaurants, as well as the forum and lido. Spotlessly clean. Great sea view room on 4th floor. Amazing breakfast buffet from 0730-1100 with literally every type of food and drink you could ever wish for. Yes, sometimes the "hot" items were lukewarm, but it did not take anything away from a brilliant breakfast experience every morning. "Happy hour" in the bar each day from 1700-1900 was brilliant value when drinks were sold at 50% discount. Good mix of friendly guests in the hotel from all over Europe and the world. Very large pool area with brilliant sea views, really relaxing with plenty of space and sun loungers always available. What made this hotel extra special were the staff. Without exception every member of staff in every role and department were friendly, helpful, courteous and great fun; they were a total credit to the Pestana group. We would happily return here in a heartbeat, highly recommended.

Pros: - Overall very happy staying here. - Loved that you could take a bath while looking out to the sea. - They help you with a lot of stuff in the reception, booking trips, cars, dinners. - plenty of restaurants next to the hotel. - sunrise view - hotel is classy and not a boring white block - garden and pool is pretty - super friendly staff! - good breakfast buffet Cons: - The wifi was not very strong, and fell out often. - beds are hard and I could feel the springs - water from the tap smelled if chlorine so we only drank bottled water, even though it says you can drink tap water on Madeira? - coffee was not very good

This hotel deserves a 5 star rating. Not sure why it is 4 when the Carlton Madeira, where I stayed the final 4 nights, was given 5 stars. I stayed for 6 nights from 1/30 - 2/5, and the staff were exceptional in making our stay memorable and hospitable. Room was super clean, breakfast was pleasant, hotel is open concept super clean indoor and outdoor pool facilities. If I come to Madeira again, this will be the hotel I will go to.

Such a wonderful hotel with an amazing location. The staff has always a smile on their face and is very friendly. In general, the hotel always planed something in the evening to enjoy to. In fact, in the preseason (end of June) are more older people here than younger one. However, this makes the hotel really relaxed, calmed and perfect to rest for. Really important to say is that the hotel has such an amazing hotel manager (Julio Marques) and a really lovely guest service manager (Dalila Rodrigues). They did everything to make you feel comfortable and welcomed, so big compliment to this two.
