There are big luxury modern hotels that have everything you need and even more. You enjoy their amazing interior design, the great variety of food, the comfort of the rooms. However, as you leave them, you don’t feel anything special… and there are small boutique hotels with just few dozens of rooms that conquer your heart with their special atmosphere and individual service, great welcoming staff that help you with everything you need and make your stay unforgettable. Quinta Jardins do Lago is exactly that kind of a hotel. It’s an 18th-century-built elegant estate that used to be residence to French and British families. Surrounded by a gorgeous botanical garden (that itself already deserves to be visited on a tour), this charming hotel is very well maintained, it enjoys a beautiful location on a hill with views over Funchal and the bay. The breakfast is a fantastic experience, we were waiting for the mornings to enjoy the delicious food in the garden surrounded by flowers and franjipani trees. The staff deserves to be mentioned and complemented as well. And, of course, how can I forget about Colombo?! He is a turtle that was brought to Madeira from the Galapagos around 50 years ago. Colombo is very friendly but looks quite lonely, so please make sure to visit him and feed him some fruits :) We literally fell in love with this venue and can’t wait to come back! P.S. we stayed in 2 other hotels on Madeira: bigger, more expensive and famous, but in our opinion they were not even close to The Quinta Jardins do Lago in terms of service and overall experience.

Beautiful hotel set in a beautiful garden. Perfect for a comlete rest and break from the world. The only grumble I would have is that it was too quiet sometimes... The breakfast was excellent as was the service in general. We loved Colombo the giant tortoise as well!

Absolutely wonderful hotel. Only about 40 rooms so never crowded. Beautiful gardens and quality pool area. Old town a short ride by taxi or hotel courtesy car but the excellent food was so reasonably priced we are in most evenings. Service is top draw- professional yet friendly. I have medical issues and they looked after me so well and discretely

Excellent hotel with very good friendly and helpful staff. Very good gardens and pool. Situated in a quiet area away from city centre. Good sized rooms all overlooking the gardens. Shuttle service during the day to Funchal sea front. Would certainly stay again. Bar and bistro at the pool during daytime. Bar snacks and a rest7in hotel in evening. Breakfast can be eaten either inside hotel or a patio area in garden. Thoroughly recommend. The only downside is if you want the night life the hotel is not in the main city centre so the bus or a taxi would be needed of an evening.

We had a wonderful week at this hotel in Oct 2021. It’s set in the most extraordinary gardens and breakfast amongst the beautiful setting was a lovely start to the day. The decor is older style but clean and very comfortable. Above all though, it’s the staff that make this hotel worthy of 5 stars. Without exception, every single one provided excellent service and got the smallest things absolutely spot on. But also friendly, welcoming and not stuffy at all.

Quinta Jardins do Lago is a fantastic hotel. We went here for our honeymoon. It's a little piece of paradise 😊. The room (the premier suite) was really big, clean and smelling wonderful. We had a view on a part of Funchal and the huge garden. The botanical garden is really beautiful many different kinds of tropical plants and there is a herb garden. The herbs and flowers are used in the Beresford restaurant. There is also a very nice resident living in the garden, his name is Colombo, he is a lovely tortoise who you really have to meet. You can see him early in the morning, but when the sun is high in the sky he is resting. The Beresford restaurant serves really good en delicious food, we chose a la carte. My personal favorite is the chicken breast marinaded in lemon, tomato, basil and couscous and for dessert the banana tatin with cinnamon ice cream. I would definitely recommend it to everyone. In the evening you can drink nice cocktail in the o Visconde bar and choose a cocktail from the 'Barman Specials'. The cocktails on this list are created by the staff themselves. The best of the list for me is the Cinnamon from Vitor Silva. 😊The staff is really great, André, Cristina, Fàtima, Vitor Silva, Claudia and the rest of the staff (sorry if I don't have your name). You made our holiday more special with how sweet you are. We are definitely coming back!!

Quinta Jardins do Lago is an absolute paradise! We came here for the first bit of our Honeymoon and we couldn’t have picked a better place to stay. The gardens are so beautiful and it’s such a pleasure to just wander through. We had breakfast on our room’s balcony, lunch by the pool, happy hour at the bar with enchanting live music, and dinner in the restaurant on site. Every drink and dish was delicious. The ambiance is relaxed but luxurious. An unbeatable combination. As if all that weren’t enough, the service was above and beyond. Every staff member was kind and attentive and made us feel so very special. I’ve already recommended the hotel to friends and family as a must stay. Truly a wonderful experience!

We chose Hotel Quinta Jardins do Lago as It is a small luxury botanical garden hotel, steeped in history and sitting atop one of the green hills that surrounds Funchal. We could enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the hotel and journey downtown in pursuit of the bright lights easily. We stayed in a spacious room with a garden view. On our arrival we found a big bowl of fruit and an envelope containing information about the hotel. Also, on the arrival we found a bag with sanitiser, gloves, and masks in the room – which is unusual for the hospitality industry nowadays. We fell in love with our room instantly. It had a pallete of cream, peach and the softest sage green. Our room was dominated by a beautiful lace-trimmed four poster bed. On one side there was a comfortable, carpeted sitting area with sofa and on the other, huge sliding doors leading out to our private balcony which overlooked the amazing gardens. The marble bathroom was both elegant and spacious. We had a perfect night’s sleep because of the comfortable bed and the blackout curtains. The main feature of the hotel is not only the property and the garden, but the people. They are so thoughtful, attentive and kind that you really feel home away from home. They solved all our problems, big and small e.g. we needed to urgently locate a clinic for our PCR test and the lady on the Reception solved this issue in just five minutes. For more than 20 years, they have had the safety and well-being of their guests as their top priority.

I'm reluctant to leave this review because the more people hear about quinta jardin do lago, the more difficult it will be to get a room. It's quite simply a wonderful place to stay. The rooms are spacious with gorgeous garden views. The pool is wonderfully laid out surrounded by the gardens, which are so beautfully maintained. The food is superb, whether it be breakfast in the garden, lunch by the pool or dinner in the dining room, it's all delicious and artfully presented with great choice. The real star though is the service, provided by the exceptional staff who go out of their way to make sure every guest is welcomed, valued and gets individual attention. Little details like making sure there is something ready for you to eat when you arrive late at night from your flight, handing you a packed breakfast because you have a 7 am start for a tour, addressing you by name whenever they meet you and giving you pointers on places to go and things to do, to make your whole experience even more special. We will be back.

I had the most incredible experience at the Quinta Jardins do Lago Hotel. From the moment I arrived, I was overwhelmed by the warm and attentive service provided by the staff. Their dedication to ensuring the utmost comfort and satisfaction of every guest is truly commendable. The hotel's ambiance is just amazing. The well-maintained and picturesque gardens surrounding the property added a touch of tranquility and serenity to the entire stay. It was like stepping into a lush oasis, the perfect backdrop for a peaceful and relaxing vacation. One unforgettable aspect of the Quinta Jardins do Lago was their resident turtle, Colombos. At 68 years old, Colombos is a living testament to the hotel's commitment to conservation and respect for nature. It was heartwarming to see this majestic creature thriving in the hotel's carefully maintained environment. The attentive and caring staff truly went above and beyond to make my stay memorable, they were always ready to assist with a genuine smile. Their dedication to providing excellent service made me feel like a cherished guest throughout my entire stay. I cannot emphasize enough that this was the best hotel experience I have had so far. I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a peaceful and luxurious retreat in a heavenly setting. I look forward to returning soon for another memorable stay.

I am reluctantly leaving this hotel, a home a way from home, with an exquisite garden, service and food. A special thank you to Sabino for his attentive care, to reception team and dinner staff. My view from room 104 below and garden. I will be back…

Stayed here for a week on a Jet2 holiday from the UK and I can't praise it enough. The staff are just lovely, and can't do enough to ensure you're enjoying your stay. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Make sure you book one with views of the stunning botanical gardens.

Beautiful and spacious room, food is first class, staff are the most friendly and helpful of any of the hotels I have visited, the location is at the top of a very steep hill, great for me as I like to keep fit, not so good if you do not like exercise, but the hotel runs a regular bus into town. I would highly recommend this hotel.

A really special place. So lucky to have found this hotel and its wonderful garden on our first visit to Madeira. Everything about it is first class and the staff make you feel so welcome. The shuttle bus into town is invaluable.

Absolutely first class in every respect, although the players could do with some modernisation, perhaps into the current century 😉

I was only visiting for a day to write a paper in the garden. The staff greeted me as every other guest, and was very polite. I would absolutely recommend to pop in for a coffee and enjoy the serenity of the place.

The best place to stay in Madiera. After spending time here, you will never want to leave. Rubina, Joel, and Vitor (just to name a few) are some of the nicest people you will ever meet and will make your stay that much better. The hospitality, gardens and overall campus allow for you to totally unplug and enjoy a proper holiday. See you next time!

Quinta Jardins do Lago in Funchal, Madeira is a beautiful and fascinating place to stay when visiting the beautiful island of Madeira. Our room was spacious with an excellent bathroom including his and hers wash basins. The hotel is situated just above the main town of Funchal with a short shuttle bus ride (10 minutes) directly to the centre. The shuttle bus is provided free by the hotel management and runs regularly throughout the day. The large swimming pool is absolutely gorgeous and even when the sun isn’t shining the pool is still very pleasant to take a dip or a nice swim. The restaurant is fabulous and we had two lovely meals there during our stay, with a spacious lounge to have pre dinner drinks before your evening meal. Breakfast is served at your table not a a buffet with a wide selection of sweet and savoury to serve every taste. Whatever the time of day however the staff are on hand to serve you food and drinks. The staff are professional and friendly a ready to help with anything you require, don’t hesitate to ask they are always on hand and very pleased to help. All in all we loved our stay at Jardins do Largo and would recommend it every time.

An exquisite, gentle hotel where treating people well comes naturally. Everything about it is excellent, but relaxed, unpretentious and full of love for life - plant, tortoise and human. Thank you for a beautiful few days.
