Hands down the best meal I've had not just in Madeira, but in months. The interior is really nicely designed and modern. We were sat at the bar upstairs where you can watch the chefs prepare the dishes, which I really enjoyed. The chef explained the difference between the cuts of steak to us personally. The recommended wine was very nice. The homemade sourdough bread was amazing, with a nice touch of chorizo crumble on the butter. We had the tuna tartare in a crispy cone, which tasted really good. Our t bone steak (aged 40 days) was the best steak I've had in a very long time, in a huge portion, and it was very well-priced. The main came with a tomato salad, homemade pickles, fries and truffle mayo. We loved both the desserts we ordered: the white chocolate with black olive and passion fruit, and the dark chocolate with salted caramel and tangerine. Seriously an amazing meal, I'd come back to Madeira just to eat here again.

Excellent and very tasty & delicious food. The best we had during our holiday. Even if the prices are at the upper end, the main courses are big portions and it's worth every Euro. We had been seated at the counter and could see how the food was prepared. So exciting. Top location. We would go there once again, or to the affiliated restaurant Akua. Thanks to the team. We enjoyed the evening very much.

Wonderful place, went for my birthday dinner and was not disappointed. A place that cares about food, everyone there is clearly passionate about food. Loved the centre open kitchen so you can hear the chefs talking and see them working. Nice vibe. Loved the cheese, onion, crispy starter and the wagyu steak, amazing chips too and sparkling wine. Loved the dessert, tangerine ice-cream and salted caramel and chocolate. Every mouth was heavenly.

Absolutely divine. The best restaurant I’ve eaten in for a long time!! Shared the mushroom and Portuguese sausage which was out of this world. The tuna tartare cone was also unreal. We had a glass of the house red which was lovely. For mains, we had the pig terrine and the black rice octopus. The meat here is top quality so I regret not opting for a meat main. Shared the white chocolate dessert. Excellent service and HIGHLY recommend

We had an excellent dinner in Kampo. There are many nice restaurants in Funchal, however Kampo takes it to the next level. The ambience, the service, the food and the people all contribute to a nice experience. It is highly recommended for meat lovers! The meat was great, the starters were amazing and the service fast. Desserts could be better though. Homemade bread is a must. Service is fast and people are super friendly. We got a place at the bar which was nice as we could see what is going on in the kitchen and also interact with the people. Reservation will be needed.

A great way to end our holidays in Madeira. Very attentive service from the staff and delicious food. We would recommend to choose the set menu for 90 euro. 5-6 courses with delicate choices of ingredients. The duck confits is a must! Recommended for a fine dining experience.

We were advised to book this restaurant from a friend before we went to Madeira. We were not disappointed! From the moment we arrived the service was impeccable, atmosphere was vibrant and food was totally incredible. So nice seeing people so enthusiastic and passionate about their place of work and the food. I wish we had this restaurant in London. First class.

Amazing food and service! We didn't book, but the staff was kind and find us a table in 20 min. We arrived at the pick moment of dinner service yet the service was impeccabile and fast (the fastest of all restaurants tried in Madeira). We set at the bar so we could enjoy the staff in the kitchen preparing the food. We had the homemade bread with butter, amazing and just got out of the oven. A vegetarian plate with vegetables and cheese cream, nothing so elaborated but tasty (unfortunately the only veg plate on the menu but just around the corner the chef has a plant based restaurant)! A steak with fries and vegetables. The meat was like butter, soft and excellent cooked. The dessert, white chocolate with maracuja, brownies and olives was mind-blowing. We had water and spent 57€ in total, such a reasonable price for the quality of the food and staff (everyone is super kind) service. We live in Italy and this kind of dinner would have cost us at least 80€! So make yourself a gift and try this place. Thanks for the experience.

As an oxtail connoisseur, I have to say both of the oxtail dishes were hands down the best oxtail Ive ever had in my entire life…and probably one of the best dishes I’ve had period. I literally ate them as slowly as I could so I could savor every bite. Will be dreaming of this place for a while!! The service was also amazing and everyone was so kind and attentive. Sitting at the chefs counter was quite an experience. Hope to return some day!!

The reviews didn’t match our expectations. First of all the service was great! But the food was so so. Just as a feedback: the sardines as a dish missed texture. Everything was soft and gooey and the sardines were too sour. The veggie dish was a strange combination of sweet coconut with cheese? But most lacking imagination just some grilled veggies… a restaurant of this standard and reading the other dishes could have a more culinary vegetarian option. The bread was amazing though.

Stunning restaurant, had a delightful solo dinner here. Excellent service, beautiful food, nice wine, and very classy and stylish interior. It’s also very good value in terms of pricing, considering how legit of a fine dining experience it is. I paid €56 for three courses and 2 glasses of wine. I sat at the counter and was able to watch the highly skilled chefs cooking and plating which was fantastic, highly recommend.

This restaurant is EXCELLENT!!! By far the BEST OVERALL EXPERIENCE IN THE WHOLEEEEE ISLAND! We loved the food so much. It was exciting and unique. We got the ravioli, the black rice, surf and turf and both the white and dark chocolate desserts. Every single dish was spectacular. Definitely sit at the bar and enjoy the experience.

Yummy meal and good service. Madeira isn’t really know for its food, though… not sure I would recommend splurging on a meal here. Nothing wrong with it but nothing that will blow your mind! They do have vegetarian options.

This was the best meal we have had in a very long time. It was simply amazing. We shared a selection of their small plates, all of which were beyond perfect. The Tuna Tartar melted in our mouths and the Xara Terrine was possibly the most delicious dish I’ve had in a restaurant. We would eat here over and over again. The staff were also beyond wonderful. Please come try it here if you are in Madeira!

Overall great experience. Discovered Kampo watching one of many Madeira videos on YouTube (Matt James’ I think). They say you eat with your eyes first and being sat on the chef’s table was quite a treat. We watched the fresh bread come out, the dishes being carefully plated and the desserts being prepared. Everything was methodical and done with care, with a very professional and friendly head chef leading. Our tuna tartare was stunning and for my partner, the steak quality here was the benchmark for all other steaks on the island. The wines were great too. The most surprising of all was the bill, which was under €100 after what felt like quite a lot of food and drinks. Would highly recommend.

Its too bad I cant give 6 out of 5 stars, that's how great this restaurant is! The best we have been to in Madeira. Every dish was so sophisticated, tasteful, great! The staff was amazing friendly and so peachful. I loved the open kitchen and seeing the well organised kitchen doing their job so well. Thank you guys, it was our last night in Funchal and thanks to you guys it was the best. Keep making great food!

In our top 3 of restaurants in Funchal. Every dish was delicious and the service excellent. We do not eat meat but found perfect fish dishes. The wine recommendation was also top notch.

  • 5/5 Filip W. 2 years ago on Google
Especially desserts were really stunning. Would recommend to order definitely meat over fish. One of the best restaurants in whole Madeira for sure.

Delicious food and great, friendly service. We got seated at the counter and it was cool to see the staff work and prepare the food. Steak tartare was delicious - so much umami. We also got the T-bone steak to share for 2… and that was a lot of food. We didn’t have room for dessert, so we actually went back another day around 4 PM to just try the Bola de Berlim and the dark chocolate dessert - those were very good too. Definitely recommend!

I visit this place quite a few times and I love it. The quality of the ingredients is noticeable and so is the work that goes in each dish. Simple and tasty but very well executed when it comes to technical terms.

The best meal we had in Funchal and one of the best I've ever had. From start to finish the staff were attentive, knowledgeable without being over bearing, really made our experience. The food was outstanding. We had the Waygu and Ox tail.. out of the two we both agreed the ox tail was mouth melting and the best dish of the night. If you have room for pudding then both the dark choc orange and white chocolate passion fruit were memorable We can't wait to return!

Just a phenomenal dinner! Walked in and was seated front and center at the open kitchen bar. The vibe was super cool. Loved the upbeat house music coming right from the kitchen. The food was stellar… ahi tuna cone was incredibly fresh, dessert was super tasty and the short rib ravioli was a dish you will dream about until you die. Staff was awesome, efficient and friendly. Couldn’t have asked for a better evening!

Good quality cuisine, being the kitchen visible when in the second floor. Variety of small but well elaborated and tasty starters. They have madurated meat but only a couple of fish-related dishes in case you're looking for that. Large list of wines selection. Big desserts based on ice creams. Nice service.

Last time we visited Madeira, we didn't get a chance to visit Kampo. So when we decided to return to Funchal, this was our first destination. And it didn't disappoint. More than that, it exceeded all expectations. Coming from London, when I see 96EU on a set menu in a chef restaurant, I expect it to be 96EU per person. Imagine my surprise when I discovered it is a price for two. And the food you get is fantastic. The tartar, the fideua (a paella that is nothing like paella), they are all fantastic, but the real king is the oxtail ravioli. If you don't get a set menu, just get one of those for each, you'll thank me later. But seriously, this is a must visit. The service is friendly, the food is great, and it's one of the best experiences I've had in a year globally.

Great food experience. I was seated at the counter where I could see all dishes being prepared. It was amazing. Good wines and great staff. I wanted to try all the appetizers (because they looked so good) but as I was solo it would have been too much food, they offered me half portions which was great! I highly recommend the sardines!

THE BEST restaurant in Madeira. I went back twice and tried almost everything😋 All the starters were amazing! The best dishes were beef tatar and beef ravioli (its not like other raviolis). Lamb and steaks were great but not as outstanding as the starters (Id suggest just ordering a bunch of starters). Desserts were also great! Reservation recommended for dinner.

We ordered two main dishes and the meat was mouth-watering! It was really well cooked and eating it at the chef’s table was priceless! Even the dessert with dark chocolate was beyond our expectations! All the flavours were well assorted.

This place has a nice atmosphere but felt a little cramped- we were seated in the back corner having an earlier seating and it felt a bit like we were packed in like sardines. Relatedly, it felt quite hot in the restaurant. I generally don’t like the whole QR code menu as it starts the meal off with phones being out. The food. I was a bit disappointed with the menu, wishing for more of a vegetable forward menu. But all the items we ordered were delicious. The bread was incredible and the tartar with seaweed was delicious. I found the oxtail ravioli to be very tender. My favorite was the market fish which was red snapper and seaweed rice. The sauce on the fish was probably the best thing I ate while in Maderia.

Fantastic, delicious food. Probably the best tuna I've ever had. Cozy place with professional and kind staff. Can be a little bit pricier than rest of Funchal but it was worth it!

If you are looking for an amazing culinary experience in Madeira, come here! This place was great from the moment I walked in. The servers are very friendly and attentive. The food came quickly and tasted absolutely amazing. I enjoyed every single bite! It was fun to sit at the bar and watch them prepare the food. The local wine the waiter recommended also paired very well with the food. If I was in Madeira for longer I would most definitely go back here to try the other dishes!

If you are a foodie you have to go here. Make sure to ask for the chefs table, so jo can sit and watch them make all the food. Amazing. Food is wonderful. Wine pairing on point 👌

Fantastic place, service is really attentive and open to create something vegan for me, even though it was not on the menu originally. Maracuja lemonade is also a steal! My friend had black rice with seafood and was also very happy with the flavor. Definitely will come back for more

This welcoming restaurant is highly recommended. The best meal in Madeira by far. I could try the cod on a sabayon vegetable bed, recommended as the day’s special. As a starter, the tuna tartare is simply out of this world. Dessert was a house special with white chocolate, passion fruit coulis with dark olive paste. Simply delicious! Thank you to the chef and staff for this special experience.

Our best meal in Madeira. Service, food and atmosphere were excellent! We ordered the sourdough bread with olives, oxtail ravioli, black rice with octopus and prawns, and the surf and turf. Highly recommend this spot for a special dinner in Madeira.

We had sardines and octopus rice and lamb for mains. Sardines overpowered the aubergine and pepper, so I suggest to eat them separately. My octopus rice was delicious but one thing that ruined it for me was gummy octopus slices, I coudn't even slice them with my knife. Next day had to come back to another restaraunt to eat some succulent octopus leg cause I was kinda dissapointed by Kampo. I just feel I had better for the price we paid here. Nevertheless the service and overall atmosphere of the restauraunt was superb. My bf was happy with his lamb dish and great french fries. The portions are huge as its usual in Madeira.
