Our wedding was an absolute dream come true. The entire team, from the friendly servers to the hardworking setup crew, showed unwavering commitment to making our day perfect. Special thanks to Diana, our sales manager, for going above and beyond to ensure every detail was flawless. The post-wedding stay was equally impressive, with the same level of care and kindness extended to us. The venue's design and attention to detail were impeccable, creating a truly remarkable atmosphere. Thank you to the entire team for an unforgettable experience that will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

Incredible place. The staff are out of this world. The food amazing, the gardens and the pool area fantastic. This place should have 6 stars. It's situated in the foothills so not possible to walk into Funchal, however the hotel run a twice daily free shuttle service so it's never an issue if you want to head into the main town area. But to be honest, if you are looking to relax and to be totally pampered then no need to go anywhere.

Amazing and cosy place with a great atmosphere 🙌 Rooms are very nice, clean and comfortable. Food is great and service is INCREDIBLE. It is 1 min away from the golf course, you can go there by walk and enjoy the amazing views on the ocean and islands I highly recommend this place 👍

Absolutely stunning hotel. Felt at home at all times, regardless to say the beauty of its gardens, rooms & comm areas. Cosy & comfortable yet amazing deco (as for my personal taste). Highly advise to have an after dinner drink at the bar close to the fireplace. Staff was very polite and kind. At last, but not the least, golf course had beautiful views all over, easy yet challenging. Thank you and hope to see you again!

Me and my partner had our wedding up at the Casa Velha and what can I say but an absolute dream wedding and five star experience from the whole team! Diana was the absolute star of the show she helped us plan every step of the way for the full year baring in mind we live in Wales. She supported us throughout the whole wedding day and evening and she was the best planner and events organiser we have experienced. The Casa was very welcoming to our guests the rooms and service provided was phenomenal. The cleanliness down to the gardens and cocktail was great. Some of our guests have been to very big weddings all over the world and for them to say this was the best venue and service they have seen the Palheiro only have themselves to thank. Diana and the team made our dream and story come true with everything they did for us. It was the perfect day!

I’ve stayed at Casa Velha do Palheiro, and it is an unique place to disconnect from the day to day routine. The hotel is surround by beautiful the Palheiro Gardens and it’s just minutes walking for a nice round of golf at Palheiro Golf.

TBH, just went here for a meal, which was 5 stars all the way, and the wine in the photo is wonderful. Assuming the rest of the hotel is up to the same standard as nothing I saw was lacking at all. If you want great food in a lovely setting, this is the place.

Very bad service, probably the worse I've got in Madeira so far. In restaurant the waiter spoke with another customer for 15 min straight, then just looked at us, smiled and went inside. We left in another 15 min without getting even a menu or being given any chance to order.

My wife and I stayed at Casa Velha in early December 2022. We stayed in a ground floor room in the Golf Wing, which was spacious and comfortable. Breakfasts and dinners were excellent. The public rooms of the hotel are also very comfortable. The Palheiro botanical gardens are just next door, and well worth the 5 euros entry fee for our stay. The golf course halfway house is at the bottom of the garden, and the golf course itself has excellent views. However what marks out Casa Velha is the excellent service of all of the team from top to bottom. They could not have been more helpful, pleasant, cheerful and kind... and that was before I had a medical issue which dumped me for a few days in intensive care in the General Hospital (clean, great care, but not so great food!). All of the staff rose to the occasion and gave my wife fantastic support at a very stressful time. To summarise... the best hotel experience I can remember. I'm looking forward to returning - this time without the medical issue!

I’m really conflicted with this review… beautiful setting, some lovely staff and decent dinner. On the other hand, breakfast was poor, rooms were average and I struggle to see how this achieved all five of its stars. My biggest issue was the quality of sleep. The walls in the room were paper thin, so much so that I could hear both my neighbours snoring and every detail of every bathroom event. I resorted to playing music to get to sleep to distract from the noises. The decor of the room matched the guest profile - not a dig at all but not somewhere to go with a friend in your 30’s.

Casa Velha do Palheiro is among the best if not the best hotel on Madeira. We've spent 7 days in the hotel and had a very pleasant experience that allowed us to recharge our batteries. Up in the Funchal hills, away from the city frenzy, Palheiro and its wonderful team allow for an unforgettable and wonderful stay. The staff is ridiculously service-oriented yet discrete, and will do virtually anything that is possible to accomodate your needs. Some details: > Rooms: The rooms are spacious and comfortable, offering air-condition and well-equipped bathrooms. The houskeeping team has an eye for detail and hygiene. > Food: We booked halfboard stay and thus had breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is rich and offers both local as well as common dishes ranging from bread, fruit, and cereals to almost full English breakfast. Re: dinner and restaurant, we want to be super particular about the great service we got. The restaurant team led by Luis acts fast, precisely and service-minded, and has their house in order. The kitchen team led by Goncalo and David offers stunning and tasty experiences, allowing to accomodate your needs. Due to a miscommunication of our travel agency, the team didn't get the memo about us being vegan, yet put together fantastic, healthy and exciting dishes. Night after night they outdid themselves. Kudos! > Activities: Yet Palheiro is mostly known for its golf course (that we are not qualified to talk about or review due to not playing golf), there is so much more about the estate: you can spend a relaxing day in the spa, enjoying sauna, turkish bath and massages as well as go for a swim in an indoor pool as well as an outdoor pool. For those with a passion for nature, there is much to discover as well: the 120 hectars of land around the estate are abundant with parks and nature, being home to trees, bushes, flowers, wells and ponds, offering enough space for walks and hikes in peace. > Location: although (or shall we say because of?) Palheiro is a little remote from Funchal, the team organizes regular, free-of-charge shuttle rides to Madeira harbor and back. Even if you miss one of the shuttles, taking a taxi on your own will not be expensive. In case you have a rental, there's plenty of parking lots as well. TL;DR: Great hotel, great staff, great service, great experience. We will come again!

The place is gorgeous and lovely maintained. We stayed in a suite that was very generous on size and all amenities were top notch. Breakfast is fantastic and they prepare picnic bags for those who go hiking. The only ask will be to add more electricity sockets in the rooms 😊

Hotel staff are brilliant, nothing is to much trouble. This is my second visit and will definitely come again. The food is lovely ,the wine is first class, especially the local Madeira house wine.the beer ain't bad either. All in all an excellent hotel to stay at.

My wife & I have been here on 4 previous occasions & on each visit it just gets better - all because of the STAFF - if they get that right everything else in my opinion falls into place. Good varied menu , rooms clean, friendly staff. We are going back later this year to also play a round or 2 of golf so will update when we get back.

A beautiful small and luxurious hotel. Warm and welcoming staff. 32 individually special rooms. Fine dining restaurant. Set in a truly vast and beautiful historic estate which also features an 18 hole golf course. At its core, a magnificent Georgian hunting lodge.
